Carlotta1 got a reaction from slocin12 in WL rate for over 50
    I am 60 years old and lost 33 pounds post op in three months. (plus an 10 pounds pre-op). Of course someone in their 20's would conceivably lose faster. and I have seen the stats on this website that indicates such. But don't worry too much about "rate of weight loss" ...There are lots of factors if you compare to others. It is nice to see someone lose fast..however, I am very happy with my progress. I am concentrating on making lifestyle changes to maintain my weight loss, not just to take the weight off. (I could always lose weight, but I would immediately gain it back). I have 32 pounds left. As long as I am eating healthly most of the time , exercise , get good sleep. Then the 32 pounds will follow in time. Hopefully this help with you concern about weight loss :}

My nutritionist and doc told me the first month is the progression time to increase your Protein intake. It took me 6 weeks before I was even close to my required protein I take. Talk to your nut/doc if u r concerned. I hear that many people like costco s premier drinks. You may want to try that.

My daughter, who is a CNS , was against my gastric sleeve surgery as well. She was worried about malabsorption of nutrients .. I too her that the gastric sleeve is not the same as having the by pass surgery in relation to malabsorption. Now that I am 5 1/2 months out she sees the change in my energy, my attitude etc. I had to do for myself.

Okay, now that you know for sure what you hate about being fat, you should make a list of what you love about yourself or what you will love to be doing when you get healthy. There is never a time when negative self talk is good for us. I am still working on this myself LOL

Carlotta1 got a reaction from Mrs King in Advice Needed: How do your spouses help to support you?
My husband was supportive..but in reality I needed little help from him after surgery since I had everything prepared. However, my husband helps me in the way that he does not bring non nutritious foods into our home. Especially ice cream which is my red light food. Another change he made is not eating out as much. We have cut down eating out so much. Maybe twice a month now. That was a big deal for my husband who loves to eat out. I cook more often for both of us. Another issue is you getting more attractive as you lose your weight. He may need reassurance from you .. It is all good.

Just be yourself. Before your visit, list the ways you think the surgery will help you. Understand why diets have not worked so far. I can attest that having the sleeve has helped my hunger pangs so, so much. It should help you regain your stomach and brain connection. I lost my feeling of fullness and thought I would never get it back. Remember, your surgery is a tool to help you get back to good health. In time, you will change your eating and exercise to continue with your weight loss and maintaining the weight you will have lost. Good luck ..and be confident that this is what you need to make a big change in your life.

Yes my spouse was concerned but he did not have a negative attitude towards it. Just do your part in following what you have to do for yourself to lose your weight. Brush off his negativity or directly tell him that his negativity is not helping you. You had the surgery. So his attitude will not change a thing but upset you. Hope once he sees your progress..he will make turn. Some husbands are fearful knowing the fact that their wives will be more attractive. It would good for u to find out what his motive is. Just so that u cam understand what he is going thru as well.

Carlotta1 got a reaction from barbb3 in Focusing on my 13 pounds left to lose..
Now that I am just below bmi of 30..I am on track to lose those 13 pounds. I set my goal weight above the recommended 25 bmi by about 10 pounds. I vow to continue with:
    Drinking 6-8 glasses of h2o
Recording my food in my fitness pal..
    Exercising 5 days a week
    Measuring my foods
    Getting proper rest
Stay away from people who do not have a positive attitude.
Check with my stomach to determine if I am head hungry.
Deal with my head hunger by determining the cause and taking action to resolve my head hunger.
Stop eating when I feel comfortable with what I just ate.
    So happy with my sleeve.

Next time someone says a comment.. Try not to react. And just change the subject. Don't give that person power to get you angry ...

I don't really ever post on here, but have been on here reading everything for months. Next month is my last visit and then hopefully I will get a surgery date soon. It gives me hope to read all of your wonderful stories, even the ones that aren't so positive. Because in all the posts I have read, even the ones where they is some negativity, it is usually followed by: still the best decision I have ever made. And this has kept me going thru all of the appointments and all of the hoops you have to jump through to be approved. No matter what happens in the next months, I know it will be worth it. Thank you all for giving me hope.

Post-op, I weighed four pounds more than when I started. It took all of that first week to drop those 4, then during the second week my weight started to go down. Stalls happen, and they are as predictable as sunrise and sunset.

Carlotta1 got a reaction from survivingsleever in Obese no more..!
Ok.. When I first saw a dr put on my med chart " obese stomach" ..I was in shock. This was about 12 years ago. This comment stayed stuck I'm my mind for years to come at the meantime getting larger year to year. Of course..I would lose tons of weight between that time I saw this term and prior to sleeve surgery. For some reason that word "obese" pierced my heart. I had to talk through myself that it is only a word that the med profession uses for excess weight. But what I was really doing to myself ..I was in denial about my excess weight.. Only when I saw pics of myself ..I looked "obese". When I started having high blood pressure, high cholesterol ..it was a sign of my health condition..but even with these bad symptoms. I was still in denial about my excess weight. food was my best friend that I could not conceivably ever give up. I could not even fathom this concept and certainly did believe I could in myself to even consider this option. Flashback to Sept , 2013.. I heard that a friend of mine lost tons of weight with the sleeve..and finally keeping off her excess weight reheat she struggled to do for years. I was a classic replica,of her weight loss journey. Lose, gain, lose gain. After losing 65 pounds two years ago, just to gain it back immediately, I was literally exhausted with getting on diets.just to gain it all back. I had liposuction twice, I had the lapband, and went on too many diets to count . I was still no better in Sept 2013 ..improbably spend over $75,000
On weight loss efforts. (Could of used that money for a world cruise). I never , ever considered invasive weight loss surgery till Sept 2013. The gastric by pass, in my opinion, was too extreme,
I researched the sleeve, spoke to my friend who had the surgery, and went to a consult with my dr.
I vacillated whether to have the surgery. Changed my mind several times. I was also seeing a psychologist at that time for my "emotional" eating. This turned out to be invaluable and a real added plus to my current success. I still see my psychologist every two weeks.
I knew deep down that getting on another "diet" of food deprivation was no longer a solution to my weight problem. I was completely exhausted to deal with my weight ..on to dec, 2013'. I had the surgery. I remember that 7 days after surgery, my reality that food can and will no longer be my friend was very humbling to me. I knew that my life changed forever with my relationship with food.
I cried, I mourned..but I prevailed. To me that day was a turning point.. I could now accept that food was no longer my best friend. I cannot explain how profound that day was for me. Sadness , mixed with hope ..5 month later, today, I am living such an energetic life, with great joy. I don't obsess on food.. My tool, the gastric sleeve, has helped my in curving my hunger, big time. Head hunger still appears in my life.. But through my psychological sessions, I have more tools to deal with this. I now have connection between my head and my stomach..I had lost, that for years.. Never, ever checked, with my stomach to see,if I was truly hungry ..I would just eat and
eat and eat and never felt full.
Even though I had years of struggle with my weight..I have to accept that my struggles has brought me to where I am today. Getting healthier, and seizing what life has to offer. Eating to live not living to eat. I have greatly reduced the "all or nothing attitude " I do enjoy on occasion my favorite foods..but he difference now..the guilt feeling nah as dismissed. I don't binge because I had one bite of a "bad stuff". Eating in moderation what I do now. No more deprivation.
To those who are considering wls..I would suggest to get help if you are an emotional eater. You need the tool of the sleeve or by pass to help you get to your healthy goal, but just as important, you need to deal with your relationship with food. I am now considered overweight.. I accept this term without harsh judgement on me. I accept the weight I am today.. I know I will slowly reach my goal ..I decided to set a goal of 150 pounds at 5'2". 60'years old. I am in a size 8 .. Which I am very proud of. 13 more pounds to go. I am grateful where I am today.

Carlotta1 got a reaction from Cherryhair in what is the real reason I became obese?
Eating to numb myself from Stress, or hurt, or anxiety ..food was my best friend that helped me cope with life. I was sexually abused as a young girl..I don't know how it effected me with food,, but I know it effected my body image.
For a long tine , I felt it was my fault that this old man who was a family member seeked me out to abuse me and no one would believe me. I had to deal with guilt that was not warranted. Of course, I was too young to realize that I was a victim..I worked this issue out with a psychologist.
I am now very aware of my eating triggers .. I now check with my stomach and determine is this head hunger or real hunger. If it is head hunger,I get away from the situation that I am in.. And I prevail.
