Carlotta1 got a reaction from MSer07 in What fruits can you eat and how soon?
I started eating fruits after 6 weeks. I usually eat two fruits a day. I put fruits in my shake which includes:
1/2 cup of Greek yogurt, non fat
1 cup of lactose free skim milk
    1/2 banana
1/2 cup pineapple, in its own juice.. No sugar or fructose added
    1/8th t . vanilla flavoring
    1 sweet in low
Little crushed ice if fruits are not frozen.
It takes me about 2 hours to slowly sip my shake. I love it. You can put strawberry, blueberries, mango, canned peaches without added sugar.,
Cantaloupe. Or any combinations u like. I only eat two servings of fruited day.

Carlotta1 got a reaction from L.S.U.tigerGirl in Scared to death and looking for a surgeon in Baton Rouge, LA!
It is normal to be scared. I was before the surgery and I backed out several timers before having the surgery. But my gut ( ha) told me I need do this for me. I would suggest that you go to a hospital that is certified as a Center of Excellence. Go to the meetings that the hospital provides on wls , usually once a month, and speak to those who have had the surgery. How they felt about the dr that did the surgery, how was he recommended, what issues they had after surgery.
I have no regrets with the surgery. The hospital, where I had my surgery actually gave me a huge binder with so much info for pre and post op. The eating phases was spelled out in detail . That is important..that u have post op support through your hospital. At least is was for me. Keep us posted on your journey to having this surgery.

Several years ago my daughter wanted to increase her circle of friends ..she looked around for a new church that would inspire her. She did find one.. She has met wonderful people at her church. She had two small kids..she then joined a mothers group..she still has friends form a group she joined 7 years ago. She also joined Christian mingle ..met a really nice guy..and is now dating him for almost a year. So what i am saying look at clubs, a gym, church groups, activity groups that meets for exercise such as hing, jogging, walking etc. it will not happen overnight. Give it time to form meaningful friendships. It will happen if u put time and effort. Good luck. Ps just my little suggestions

Walking 6 miles without tiring out.
    Hiking for 5 hours.
    More energy.
Better health..off of blood pressure meds.
Recently taking swimming lessons and swimming almost a mile so far Would like to do a triathalon ...one day. Making a vacation into a healthy one..i.e. eating healthy and hiking.....
and I'm over 60. !!!! You are never too old to change. If you want your life to change...you have to make changes to your life. Taking action is the key. I was very reluctant to have the gastric sleeve. I backed out several times. So happy that I had the surgery and made changes in my life.

So happy for u..,I can imagine what that feels. I did not have diabetes going into surgery. However, the thought that I may get diabetes if I don't control my weight is why I'm on this site ...and hence did the surgery. U just bought years on your life. I had a brother in law who had the big D and saw what it did to him. Kidney transfer, amputation, eye laser surgery.. And finally heart failure.
What a weight loss in such a quick time. Keep up the good work.

Are you eating enough Protein. 70-90 grams of protein or whatever your dr recommended. Are u eating too many carbs. Is your exercise challenging enough, I see a nutritionist once a month. That helps me to stay focus on eating healthy, also...I see a psychologist twice a month to make sure my mind stays balance .. She specializes in eating issues. These are the things that are helping me. I had my surgery in dec 2013. Had a stall over the summer. Of course I was on vacation most of the summer so my goal was to maintain, which I did. Now that my travels are fine I am back with eating 1200 calories per day editing at least 85 grams of protein. I have lost two pounds since this past Tuesday. I log in everything I put in my mouth. Don't give up ..u have come too far. Sit down..re-evaluate your personal goes , make a plan to achieve these goals. You can do it. !

Carlotta1 reacted to gowalking in If you are asking for advice...
...don't come down on folks when they offer it.
Especially if you are new to the WLS experience and the vets respond to you. We see the same questions over and over and over again and we still take the time to answer you because we know that for you, it's the first time you are going through this.
It would be so easy for us vets to leave the forum and live our lives successfully but we stay here because we remember how it was at the beginning or if we see that you are struggling during the WLS journey....so we stay here and try to help. Please think about that if you don't like how we've responded. It's not because we know better....it's because we simply know more than you do right now. Respect that please.
We try so hard to be sympathetic when you screw up or ask questions that you already know the answers to...like I didn't lose 5 lbs. in one week, is this a stall? Or, I ate a bag of chips...did I do bad?
I've been on this forum for a year and a half and in that time, I've seen too many vets take a hike and it's often because they are rebuffed when they offer insights or even just their own personal experiences. If you want this forum to succeed, and if you personally want to succeed...be aware of what you say either on the forum or when you PM. Especially when you PM.
And one more thing. I didn't post this on Rants and Raves because it's not a rant. It's a request.
