ask for the pain meds. I wanted to take morphine home... lol. It does get better... but verbalize what hurts and that you need something. There is no shame in that.

My nutritionist basis it on how far post-op you are.....the first month is 600-800 calories then it goes up to 1000 or 1200.....the first couple weeks I was in the 400-500 range pretty regularly.

I am averaging about 600 calories a day and I feel it may not be enough calories. What is the average amount of calories should a Gastric Bypass person get in a day?
I am almost up to par with my Protein requirements.

I have been very happy with Decaf post op. I do not want to return to caffeine in any form. It also stimulates appetite and dehydrates the body. The challenge for me is travel. In the US, we have many places that brew wonderful decaf coffees. But outside of the US, it is more challenging to find. So I take my own decaf instant coffee with me.
I also make decaf at home using the cold-brew method. It makes delicious decaf.

My surgeon says no too caffeine. He states we can do decaff but doesn't want us drinking coffee or pop. One reason was risk of ulcers and there is other theories out there regarding why no soda. My thought is I will wait a year and I may have an occasional coffee. Not a huge coffee drinker to begin with but every once in awhile I enjoy one.

Fried chicken made me dump. Would not suggest eating it. Also, the way I made myself see it is why go through surgery if you are still going to consume that amount of fat. I tried the chicken by mistake because it was mixed with non fried chicken. Remember, surgery gives us the tool but it's our decision what we put in our mouths in order to lose weight and keep it off.

About 3 weeks ago at my gym I started doing the elliptical... I did it for about 90 seconds and couldn't walk, couldn't go up my stairs in the house, for 3, 4 days after that. LOL
I kept at it, kept at it... (Even tho I had a hard time walking back out to where I parked the car!!!) and today I did 20 MINUTES on it!! I was so happy when I left the gym!
Just a personal goal of mine I wanted to share. ( Pre-op )

For me, and I'm only 5-1/2 months out, I never feel the "same" full that I felt pre-op. Do I get full? Yes, without a doubt...but what I don't have is the guilt that I ate waaaaay too much of a food that is waaaaaaaay bad for me.
