It is a fact that you can trade one addiction for another. Some of us have personalities that are prone to addictions. My history testifies that I am one of those people.
Drugs, immorality, drinking, smoking, all have been my captors at times. food addiction was the latest of my jailers.
I determined that losing fat and food addiction was a part of the me renaissance. I went to the one who promised freedom, the Son. He has strengthened me and led me to a freedom that I have never had before.
I have found that freedom brings intimacy, with God and those around me. I am no longer hidden behind destructive compulsions and being at peace with and liking myself frees me to give love. I deem myself worthy and know that the love that I have to give is valuable.
I have a new body but have no desire to betray my wife. My life is about much more than my body, it's just that my body does not stop me from life any more. Everything has taken on a new richness. I have power to go downhill but don't want to, the air is cleaner the higher you go.
If I have an addiction now it would be exercise. I love it! I have a lot more energy and it feels so good to use it. It is much easier to tell if something is alive if it is moving.
Exercise addiction can be a problem like any good thing taken to extremes. Having experience with all my other addictions I can tell when it is interfering with more important things or it becomes too exhausting or injurious. It is much easier to control than food cravings.

IME, the key is to make lifestyle changes together. As one unit, you'll be growing together and supporting each other.
DH and I were both banded six months apart, and this worked for us. Now that I have my new little tummy, he's really stepped it up. He's watching what he eats more, working out, being very supportive. If he wasn't, I'm not sure how things would be between us.

Post op day 6...had my drainage tube removed this morning. No pain at all today...just a little discomfort. I finally got that burst of energy that everyone is talking about. Getting ready to go flea market grazing. food intake is good...Im starting to recognize when I've eaten enough. It's funny that ive never really paid attention to when i was physically full. This is a lot of getting used to!
I am currently starting to read a book callef 'Shrink Yourself' by Roger Gould. It provides a guide to stop emotional hunger. Thats really my biggest hurdle going forward. I really like the book so far.
Its just now sinking in that I actually did it. I actually had the surgery! Hard to believe after wanting it for so long!
To all you new sleevers...heres to a new life and lots of love for our bodies!

Try ice chips. They just melt in your mouth and they are so refreshing. That worked very well for me for the first couple of days.

Actually it is the opposite. Bypass patients can stretch their pouch. Initially there may be a difference in how quickly weight is lost with the sleeve vs. RnY. However the gap between percentage of excess weight lost between the two procedures is narrowing.

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments. Spoke with my doc and he said to drink way more fluids than ive been drinking and to walk a lot. I knew that but the pain meds have been making me very sleepy. I might get my drainage tube out tomorrow instead of friday. I feel that the tube is one thing holding me back a bit...i HATE it. Im getting bored out of my mind staying at home...mom is taking me to the mall today. Other than smelling lots of food, im pumped to get out.
I am having less and less pain where my stomach was removed...mostly horrible gas pain. Doc said the more i walk the better i feel. I have an office job so it shouldnt be a huge deal...i just dont want to be in pain the whole time and pop pain meds all day.

Your welcome Erica:-) The inly surgery I had before this was a tonsilectomy. This was pretty new for me as well. It's painfull...not going to lie. But the real intense pain didnt last very long. I am now 4 days post op and my only real complaint is gas pain in my left shoulder...and my back pain. It's bareable though. Biggest help for the pain in the hospital was to walk walk walk!! Helps get rid of the gas pressure and really helps you heal quicker. After talking to a lot of these post op ppl...i was desperate to start walking. I started the day of my surgery and every 2 hours following. You gotta muster through the pain to do it. Also its way better to sit in a recliner or just sit up so it doesnt make standing up as painful. This info im giving you was also given to me. Its made my recovery very bareable!

Fortunately, I'm not having trouble with the fluids. I am crushing up ice with water...mixing it with crystal lite and using a spoon to dip out of ice and liquid. It keeps me from sipping too fast and its more like a slushy. I love my Protein shakes! Already got in my 60grams of protein for the day. I drink Premier Protein from Sams/Costco. Inexpensive and taste really good. Try different things...and always sip sip sip! I know that feeling too...stomach just churns when you consume anything too fast!
Please let me know how this works out for yall!

I don't understand why 'getting hungry' is a feeling that everyone is surprised they still have? It should definitely be suppressed, of course. All of the research I have done, I have found that most people still do get hungry. We cannot expect to have this surgery and think we will never be hungry again. I am fully expecting it to happen...I am sure it is going to be a new challenge. I will have my surgery on March 22nd, and I have to say that reading all of this is really helpful for me in so many ways. I am really appreciative that we have this outlet when things have gone awry:)

Frozen yogurt and popcorn. I am not trying sweets of any kind. I did poke my tongue in the top of a cupcake and then ran away.
