Some will say you will never be able to drink from a straw again. Some will say it is just fine. Much of that depends, I imagine, on the advice of docs and nuts. Personally, I was never straw restricted and I occasionally use one because it is easier for me to get the desired volume of water down with a straw.

I started drinking from a straw (with my drs blessing) about 6 weeks post op! I have had no problems...

My diet stuff says no straws or gum for 4 weeks. I am a straw person so I miss it!

I guess the point is not getting air in your tummy?

I have been drinking from a straw since I was 4 weeks out and had no problem

I'm 9 weeks and I use a straw. I'm able to get more volume in from a straw rather than a sip. I don't notice any pain from air or extra burping. But I can tell if I take too big of a sip.

Thanks, good to know. 3 weeks out and just starting foods today. Will give it a try in a few days.

I'm 2 months out and have drinking out a straw since 5 weeks out and haven't had any problems.

I was told 3 months before introducing a straw. I am already having a problem with taking swallows that are too big so I am going to leave the straws alone for now.

I have been drinking from a straw since 3 weeks out. I notice it keepa a lot of the air out of my stomach thus reducing the gurgling burps..the smaller the better

I'm only a week out and I've used a straw. I notice with the straw I actually get less air in vs. Sip....sip...sip.

Been using a straw since day two. When I don't I tend to gulp. So the camelback water bottle with the bite valve has been my best option.

Drinking from a straw day 2...I had sponges first day. I'm busting out of the hospital now! Yay!
