I'm Addicted To Watermelons!
Awesome!!! You are doing a wonderful job! I dont eat rice/chapathi now. I take boiled spiced vegetables or fish/chicken (with curry) for lunch. I have a Protein shake and 2 egg whites (boiled or scrambled) in the morning and a Protein Shake at night. I snack on watermelons and other fresh fruits. Thats mostly it.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...........................................................
On my first appt, the doctor explained lapband, gastric bypass and sleeve. Lapband was out of question for me because it almost will never work because South Indian food tends to be more mushy - so the band is not going to hold it for a long time. So my choice was either GB or VSG. Now, I made up my mind pretty quick that I was NOT going to get GB because of the whole malnutrition thing. I could not imagine taking meds my WHOLE LIFE due to malnutrition. Getting sleeved was the best decision I ever made. I regret that I had not done this a few years back. I'm 11 weeks out and feel so much better, lighter and energetic. After reading many stories here, I'm not really comfortable with Lapband either -- there seems to be a higher rate of complication in it. So GB or VSG would be a great choice. I hope everything works out fine for you. All the best!! :-)

Would You Have Done It Sooner? Say In College.
In college? Probably not, because I was not weighing so much during that time. I started to balloon out only after I joined my job and moved away to a new city. No home cooked food and had way too much money than I have ever had (not much of allowances for kids in India, lol). But I really regret that I havent had VSG done sooner. Like probably a couple of years before (maybe at 25). It would have given me so much of energy to enjoy my life. I have a great bunch of friends and I really regret having to say no to 3 out of 4 outings a month. And my younger sis -- she loves going out for shopping and will literally beg me to come with her. Again I refuse 3 out of 4 times coz I'm too lazy to dress up and leave home on a weekend. I'm really hoping that I get my energy back and have some quality time with friends and family every now and then.

My Report On A Couple Rtd Protein Drinks
I guess I'm the saddest when it comes to Protein drinks because I dont have many choices where I live. And I cant order online from any US sites coz they dont ship these to India. But I did see Click Mocha and Choclate flavors listed on ebay India. I'm going to order one soon (after consulting with my doc ofcourse - I'm petrified to try anything new without consulting him).

First Mushy Meal.. Hating Every Minute
There will be stalls in this journey and probably some gain during TOM but I promise you'll never fail! This tool is not designed that way. Whatever you do, you cannot match your pre-surgery intake with your sleeve. It will send all kind of signals and alerts your way that are hard to miss when you overeat. You'll learn the 'full fealing' soon enough - and your signal may be anything from burps to belches, from aches to reflux - but believe me when I say that is a great thing to learn the 'full' fealing sooner! You'll do more than fine!

Women Only!
Well, I guess I am a bit different in this case. My periods are very rarely painful and no difference there after surgery. Though it wasn't lighter/heaier, it was 2 days shorter. Have to see if there is any difference this month. Q: Do you ladies think having irregular periods before surgery is what causes the first few periods to be heavier/more painful or something? I used to have irregular periods and then a few years back got some medication for it and started getting regular periods.

Hi Surgery 3/21
I had some cough when I woke up after surgery because of the anesthesia but it was not too bad. I was on pain meds so it didnt hurt much. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm Certain That Vsg Will Kill Me.
Awww dont worry. You'll do great! I agree with what Dorrie said - because, in my research before the surgery, I found that lap band seems to have an extremely high percentage of complications than any other WLS. You survived that! So I'm sure you'll do awesome with the sleeve and you're going to be one of the great VSG success stories

I'm Addicted To Watermelons!
Oh we have got some of the BEST!! They are so juicy and sweet! Before surgery I thought I'll be craving foods like nachos with cheese and salsa, or cheeseburgers or other fried foods that I used to love. But now, I crave only watermelon and musk melon! LOL

I'm Addicted To Watermelons!
Help me!!! I'm getting addicted to watermelons! I and my mom finished off half a fruit yesterday! I had atleast about 10-15 small pieces and had to literally leave the kitchen to avoid temptation! The watermelons season has started early here in India and I see so many roadside vendors everyday on my way to office and it is getting harder for me not to stop and have a bite! I really want to know what are the cons of eating watermelon now (I'm 3 months out - 10 weeks to be exact). I started having watermelon juice some weeks before and I posted asking if it was okay and was told that it would be healthier to eat the fruit instead of the juice. Something about the sugar? (I will check the previous post again) But is 1/4 fruit a day too much? It is hot as hell here and the watermelons look sooooo gooood

Day 2 At Home
LOL @ winning the Olympics -- well, if they did make it an Olympic event, you'll have some serious competition from me. I make some decidedly unlady like burping sounds after my meals. I usually make sure I'm alone inside my cabin at the office for atleast 20 - 30 mins after meals :-)

Your Recommendations In Prep For The Sleeve...
Take your measurements (inches) before surgery. I didnt do this and sooo regret it now, coz I cant say for sure how much my inch loss is.. And take pictures!

1 Week Post-Op
27g is a good number. The protein mix that I use gives only 19g a sachet. I dont have many options for Protein Drinks where I live so I'm stuck with mine. So I'm taking 2 sachets a day. Make sure you consume the required protein Also, has your doc prescribed you any medicine for anything? Make sure you take the meds regularly. I was very irregular with my meds in the beginning and let me tell you -- the body immediately retaliates like an angry snake! Take care of your body and all the best for a speedy recovery!!

1 Week Post-Op
