I'm Addicted To Watermelons!

Help me!!! I'm getting addicted to watermelons!

I and my mom finished off half a fruit yesterday! I had atleast about 10-15 small pieces and had to literally leave the kitchen to avoid temptation! The watermelons season has started early here in India and I see so many roadside vendors everyday on my way to office and it is getting harder for me not to stop and have a bite!

I really want to know what are the cons of eating watermelon now (I'm 3 months out - 10 weeks to be exact). I started having watermelon juice some weeks before and I posted asking if it was okay and was told that it would be healthier to eat the fruit instead of the juice. Something about the sugar? (I will check the previous post again)

But is 1/4 fruit a day too much? It is hot as hell here and the watermelons look sooooo gooood :(

Oooooooooohhhhh....can't help you sister. I loooooove watermelon! I think there are worse things you can eat. Fresh fruit is always healthy eaten on an empty stomach. It cleanses your cells. yummmmm

I don't think is that bad to eat watermelon :) is not like you are eating Cookies or cakes =) I can eat a lot of fruits now

Just remember kids...any fruit or fruit juice that has been boiled or pasteurized is DEAD, and is PURE sugar! Fresh fruit is healthy and good!! The juicier the fruit, the better for you. And berries are the best.

I bet you've got some CRAZY good watermelon in India!!!

when I was pregnant I HAD to eat it everyday. I would go out in the middle of the night to get it if I didn't have any. It was my only real craving.

I really don't think it's that bad for you. Here is an article i found..

My tastes have changed since being sleeved and fruit is my new favorite thing! My most favorite is the fruit with chile, lime, and salt that you can get from mexican street vendors here in southern California!

Yes or the powder chile that has lime in it.mex venders also sell coconut pieces, melon pieces with the watermelons...mmmm good

Oh we have got some of the BEST!! They are so juicy and sweet!

Before surgery I thought I'll be craving foods like nachos with cheese and salsa, or cheeseburgers or other fried foods that I used to love. But now, I crave only watermelon and musk melon! LOL

Watermelon is on my surgeon's list of foods to avoid I think because there isn't much nutritional value in the amount we can eat and it takes up the space of Protein they want patients to consume. I don't care. I love it and when the season comes around here I'll dig in! It's mostly water- that's got to count for fluids right!! =)

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
