  1. Don't know if this will work for you, but I thought about the health reasons for getting the surgery, which reminded me I had no option other than this. Without the surgery, I was likely to have severely reduced quality of life and early death. Compared to that, any small risk of serious problems due to the surgery was well worth it. As a result of looking at those facts, my resolve was strengthened and the panic disappeared.
  2. Don't take much with you. You most likely will not be allowed to lift anything more than 10 or 15 pounds.
  3. Welcome to the site. Most people are nervous before surgery. Keep remembering the health benefits of the surgery, the potentially longer life and the improved quality of life. I did that and realized I had no other option. From then on I was resolute and not nervous. Hang in there; it is worth it. I don't have a specific brand to recommend, but look for a brand that has whey protein as its protein ingredient.
  4. I had to crush one of my pills and it tasted horrible even mixed with chocolate pudding, but that doesn't answer your question. I only needed to go off some of my pills and take liquid forms of the others for three weeks. I'm sure others have had different experiences. My liquid medicines didn't taste bad.
  5. Congratulations to you for asking for help! You have received a lot of good advice here already.
  6. I had a tough time at the hospital, but the nurses were there to help me and they were wonderful. The day I went home I mostly slept. After that I could have taken care of myself with some advance preparation although I was glad to have my husband home to help me out. I go along with those who say having him home right after you come home is the best. If that is not possible, you will probably do alright alone the week after surgery. This advice assumes you do not have very young children who need to be picked up and otherwise taken care of. If you have young children, in my opinion, you will need someone with you right after you get home the first week and the next week, too.
  7. I was approved right away.
  8. I don't consider you stupid and assume you are asking a legitimate question. Sometimes there is nothing that will make up for the advice of the bariatric physician. My response was meant to be serious. My bariatric doctor's nurse takes all questions and passes those she can't answer on to the physician. If my pcp gave me that response, I would call my bariatric surgeon who would know what he is looking for. Sometimes "call your doctor" is the best advice you or I can get.
  9. I go with plain Fage yogurt. It tastes like sour cream and is so good going down.
  10. Thank you. It will make a good reference document.
  11. About a week before surgery, I went into panic mode, mostly facing the fact that I was doing something that would require a total change in my life. I reminded myself of the reasons for the surgery and the concommitant changes it would bring about. Without the weight loss, I was looking at a decreased and decreasing quality of life and likely earlier death. In short, I realized I had no good alternative. Looking at it that way, I was willing to take the chance of the unlikely possibility of serious, long-lasting, negative consequences. In short, keep your eyes on the goal of good health and improved quality of life.
  12. What a terrible experience you've been having. Hope all goes well from now on.
  13. Don't ask for a judgement if you don't want one.
  14. " I should not have had the crepe or the bread on the sandwich." You answered your own question.
  15. Try some warm chicken broth.
  16. Your life won't ever be the same, it will be better.
  17. You should be jittery because it is a big commitment. On the other hand, what other options are there for drastically improving health and quality of life? I am three months out and have never regretted my decision.
  18. Congratulations. You are experiencing one part of how the sleeve helps us lose weight.
  19. Have you tried warm fluids?
  20. One week. They called and I had to go on the pre-op diet that day!
  21. Good going, Raulena. Welcome. Welcome to you, too, Hyacinth.
  22. I don't like sweets either. These were approved by my doctor for the liquid diet: plain Greek yogurt and sugar free pudding with protein powder in it. There were a bunch of others, but I can't remember them. Sorry.
  23. Think of the reasons you need to have the surgery: health, a longer life, better quality of life. I did that and realized I had no options.
