Approved...now Sad??? Wth?
Hi Lisa, I am recently banded and I can say its the best decision I could have made. Im down 29.2 lbs. Been losing 7-8 lbs a week, I know I will eventually slow down to maybe 2 lbs a week. But can truly say I'm loving my band. To be banded is a very personal decision, like most of us we have tried everything else. On a personal note with the health issues I have, i needed to have this done. Its so amazing to not feel hungry all day. The hardest thing for me was the pre/post-op diet, not because it was not doable but because I got bored of the same foods, but I survived and so has others. Im eating mushies now and feeling great. There is a lot of support here utilize it. We are here for you. What seems to be depressing you after the class?

UMR/UHC Options PPO Question
I have UHC ppo options and they required the 6 mth supervised diet, pych consult, Bmi >40 or 35 > with 1-2 comorbids, letter of medical necessity from pcp, must be performed at hospital. The rest of my requirements were physician based. Good luck.

I'm On The 6 Month Diet
I learned how to eat. I did not focus on any weight loss. I started at 256.8 when I finished the 6 months I was bigger than I started at 258.2. I dont know what happened with that. I guess it was hard to break old habits, but now Im banded I chew chew chew dont want to get stuck ever. Learn as much as you can, and focus on good food choices. The six moths will go fast and you will be banded in no time. Good luck in your journey to being a healthier you.

Freaking Out About Surgery
Yes, I dealt with it and I came out fine. Surgery was March 2,2012 once they gave me the cocktail, I was out when I woke up I was in recovery. I was so scared of all of those things. But what happens if u don't have the surgery? Remain optimistic and pray. It's practically normal to have fear. Praying for a safe surgery for you. Stay focused and know that you are doing the right thing for you. It will all work out. Good luck.

Smoking
Never was mentioned, so depends on your physician. After, surgery I'm down to 1 or 2 cigs a day or none at all, I have no desire too, just use to doing it. Hoping to be totally smoke free by end of month. Good luck.

Post-Surgery
Thanks everyone for the support. I have found that it is getting better each day. Trying to get at least 1.5 liters of fluid daily but hard to get in. I do not want to be back in hospital.

Post-Surgery
Well I was scheduled for surgery on Friday, March 2. I arrived at the hospital at 06:30, was weighed in and given a gown to change. I was so dehydrated 4 attempts were made to get the IV in, by that time the surgeon was ready for me. The anesthesiologist came to talk to me and he gave me a cocktail and I don't remember anything else. I awoke in recovery, with no pain, I stayed there then I was placed in a room on the floor to finish recooperating. I was told he did a hernia repair along with my banding. I did a swallow test and xray to confirm placement. By 3pm I was a mess dry heaving, trying to vomit but nothing would come up, blood pressure was out of control and the pain was terrible. I walked and walked and walked and could not rid the gas or burp. The doctor made me NPO due to the nausea, thank God I never vomited. I was concerned about the band with the dry heaving, hope I did not ruin anything. I had one nurse who was awful, I ask meds 2 hours before I actually started heaving, had to literally cry to get meds for nausea and gas. Beyond that I'm glad to have been discharged at 10:45 pm made it hope at 11:30 had a rough night but feeling so much better today. Still having the gas in the left shoulder area but been walking. Came home with pain and nausea meds. I am glad to be on the otherside at this point I would have not changed a thing, this could have happened to anyone. As far as appetite, I have none not hungry at all but have had jello, water, vitamin, juices gonna try a protein shake today. Gonna take it easy, walk, rest and hydrate.

Hi! New Here And I Have A Question.
I did it and got approved my first submission. Having surgery next friday. Goodluck do like we did, use it as a learning tool before your band. Don't be too concerned about weight loss, unless required by your insurance. My Dr used my first weigh in for the insurance, I have UHC.

Any Body Went To True Results In Houston????
Being banded Mar 2 by Dr. Reilley, hope my liver has shrunk too. Have not weighed in 7 days will weigh in on pre-op appt 2/21. The office told me to lose 10lbs or he will postpone surgery, well guess I'll see on tues. The scale appeared to have not been my friend, but people on my job say they have noticed I lost and they wanted to weigh me but I refused. Good luck.

Hunger/gas Pains
Is it normal to have severe hunger/gas pains? My stomach has been sore and sending pain like lightning, been on pre-op diet since 1/16. If this does not resolve by tomorrow will call clinic. Been experiencing these pains for 2 days, did well on diet up until now. Have no idea why this is happening thinking I'm going into starvation mode.
