  1. Congratulations!!! That is fantastic!
  2. I completely understand about the machine. When I was diagnosed with it, I got the machine and tried several different masks. However, I needed to use the full face one, because I'm a mouth breather at night. Short story, I tried it for a year and felt that it wasn't doing me any good (in fact, I felt MORE tired while using it). So, I stopped using it. Although, I know several people that it does help. I hope it does help you. And they say that the sleeve does help with sleep apnea...
  3. Congrats on the loss! That's terrific!
  4. Glad you are feeling better!
  5. Do not change the dosage of metformin without the doctor telling you to do so. Cinnamon is supposed to help with blood sugars.
  6. I have done optifast and it wasn't too bad tasting. My problem with it is that I was still hungry between shakes. But maybe you won't be. Congratulations on the date and good luck!
  7. What kind of veggies are you eating? There are some starchy veggies that will skyrocket blood glucose readings. Potatoes and Corn both skyrocket my sugar, so I have to be careful eating those. Also try eating things that are low glycemic index values - that has always helped me when I discovered my glucose readings running high. http://www.glycemicindex.com/ Hope that helps. I've been a type 2 diabetic for 6 years using 2000mg metformin a day - that's my only medication and it has been working well until the last year (perhaps my body has gotten used to it, or more likely my diet just really went downhill as I was eating a LOT of fast food).
  8. Congratulations on your date! If you go into the food section of the forums, there is a specific forum for Protein and there is a posting pinned there of where to get samples from. Personally, I got a ton of samples from Nashuanutrition.com. So far I have liked them all - but I think I'm probably the weird one when it comes to that. Edit - here's the link directly to the posting for samples: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/1267-places-to-get-liquid-protein-samples/
  9. Congrats on the loss!
  10. Congratulations on the first 20 pounds gone forever!
  11. Thanks again. I think it will help me for journaling on my own before I am put on the program since it is hard for me to guess at how much I am eating (I am terrible with estimates). Some things are easier to weigh than measure - like patti was saying.
  12. Congratulations on the weight loss!
  13. Congratulations on making the commitment and getting a date. It is scary. This is a complete and total lifestyle change for the vast majority of us - and frankly that is rather frightening. But, you're doing the right thing. You are researching the procedure. You are here in the forums reading and participating (which is very helpful). You are also normal for having the feelings that you do. My best advice is just remember why you have decided to have this surgery. Write it down and post it on the fridge, bathroom mirror, or where ever so you see it every day. It really does help with the second thoughts that you are having. People have had leaks and have survived. If you should be so unlucky to have one, you will survive as well!
  14. Congrats on getting approved and a date! That's great news. One thing that I am doing before the pre-op diet is trying to journal the food I am eating so I can get into that habit so I can track the Protein, carbs and calories post-op. Once I get a food scale, this will be a bit easier I think. I am also trying to eat "healthier" - I have given up my daily diet coke, have tried to stop eating fast food (I have slipped a couple of times), and I am trying to eat smaller portions 5 or 6 times a day. Many of these things are what my dietician suggested when I first met her. This weekend, I plan to try some of the recipes I found on here and on eggface's site as well as a "healthy" version of hamburger helper that I found online. I've been craving hamburger helper lately - but I know it has a lot of bad stuff in it, so want to try to cook my own from scratch and make it healthier with some of the tips I've learned on here. Of course, I'm always reading things on here and continuing to do my research.
  15. Congrats on getting a date! It is exciting isn't it?
  16. Congratulations on both the weight loss and the new job!
  17. Thanks. I'm just trying to get into the habit of tracking my food - and that's hard to do if you don't measure it seems.
  18. I'm attempting to start journaling the food I'm eating and calculating Protein, fat, carbs, and calories. Already today I discovered that I believe I will need to get a food scale as a couple of the foods I was trying to look up gave serving sizes in ounces - even though I was counting out pieces (blueberries, grape tomatoes, baby carrots). Does anyone use a scale for measuring their food? If so, which one?
  19. TB doesn't have to be in the lungs. That's just the most common form of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuberculosis I would also get a second opinion just to be sure. It's rather rare to get it from WLS.
  20. Meijer also has Dreamfields.
  21. Thanks. I was just wondering how useful it was.
  22. Wow - thanks for posting that. I would check with your surgeon and PCP for sure. Since you posted this, I did a quick google search and found this article: http://journals.lww.com/infectdis/fulltext/2001/05000/tuberculosis_after_gastric_weight_loss_surgery__a.8.aspx It's a bit dry (and uses several technical terms), but it does say there is an increased risk of TB after gastric weight loss surgery.
