  1. Welcome to the site and congratulations on getting a date for your new life to begin! You'll find a lot of support on here as well as a lot of information if you check out all the areas of the forums. I'll be starting my 2 week liquid pre-op diet next week. I can't wait!
  2. Welcome to the forums and congratulations on making the decision.
  3. I've been gone for a week - I was on vacation doing some genealogy research. I had an absolute blast doing it. The hardest part was the 3 block walk from the hotel to the library as I am not used to walking anywhere. But by the time I was leaving yesterday, I was getting pretty good at it. Not nearly as winded. I didn't walk today as I was driving but I actually am MISSING the walking. Wow - I never thought I would say that. I didn't do so great eating last week - I just got too tied up into the research and managed only Breakfast each day (fruit and bagel - they didn't provide any Protein nor did I think to pack any). I know my body went into starvation mode, but I also wasn't hungry. Good thing I wasn't on any special diet. Now I need to get back into "the groove" as it were and prepare for the pre-diet. On my drive back yesterday and today I thought a lot about the research that I had done and what I still want to do. I really want to go back again next year, and expand my researching into different areas in different repositories. I thought of how much I would enjoy that. Then I realized how much MORE I will enjoy it not huffing and puffing from being winded by having all this extra weight. By this time next year, I hope to be down at least 60 pounds, and in a regular exercise program increasing my stamina, etc. What a world of difference that will make. I'll weigh myself in the morning just to see how much "damage" I did with the bad habits last week. Next year, I will definitely have a different plan and make sure that I eat appropriately.
  4. It's very cool. I can't wait! As for a name - how about the Sparklers? Sorry, it's just the first one that popped into my head and frankly, I'm not that great at this....
  5. Good luck with the surgery tomorrow. I look forward to reading your posts!
  6. Wow - that is a lot of inches! Congratulations! My dietician suggests to only weigh once a week and measure monthly.
  7. Congratulations on getting the surgery done! I'm glad everything went well for you.
  8. Congratulations on getting the approval!
  9. Yes, your fears are normal. I'm going through the same thoughts since getting my surgery date a couple of days ago. I would actually be more worried if you were NOT having those thoughts. But you have made the decision to make your life better for yourself and your family. Just remember the reasons why you are doing this. Keep repeating them over and over to yourself. Heck, write them down and paste them in places that you will see them every single day. That is what is helping me. Congratulations on the new you!
  10. Glad to hear it all went well. Congratulations!
  11. Welcome to the forums. If you had your surgery the 23rd of May, you might be in the "normal" stall that happens around week 3 or so. It will pass. You are doing great though - lost 20 pounds! That's fantastic! Plus walking 2 miles! Wow - I would love to be able to say that in the future!
  12. Welcome to the forums. There is a wealth of information and support here. There actually is a section of the forums that is dedicated to self-pay and Mexico surgery. Check it out - I'm sure you'll find answers. I am also self-pay, but luckily I had the money saved up for it. I know a few people have used Care Credit, or other credit cards. Some have also been able to obtain personal loans.
  13. Fast food places are NOT an option for me right now. The temptation is too great to order the bad stuff. Maybe eventually I can - years down the road. But right now, no - the last thing I need is that. That's part of the reason I stopped at Olive Garden - the meal wasn't too aweful. Tonight, I'm going to have dinner at Audrey's - which is part of the Johnson & Wales Inn in Mass. Should be good food.
  14. I have always had that "problem". I have never liked to hear others eat - even when I am eating with them. It just really irritates me. I chalk it up as one of my pet peeves. It's also probably why I don't like to eat in restaurants or around others - I really prefer to eat all by myself.
  15. Thank you everyone. I came to the conclusion that there must be something significant about the 12th. Four years ago, I had back surgery on May 12. Now, I am to have the VSG on July 12. The genealogy trip that I am on - there are 12 participants. There's been a couple of other instances of 12 coming up in my life. I think that will be my new "lucky" number. LOL
  16. Congrats on getting your date to start your new life.
  17. First day down and no fast food! I did have dinner at Olive Garden, but it was right next door to the hotel and I was wanting something other than the veggies I packed after snacking on them all day. Still have some left for tomorrow, so this plan is working great. Genealogy research is a passion of mine. It sounds really strange, but the intense research (like I will be doing next week) is VERY relaxing to me. It has the same effect as a day at the spa. Yup, I'm a strange one.... LOL
  18. Congrats on the 10 pounds lost! That's great! Good luck with the surgery.
  19. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on getting your sleeve. I would contact your doctor and he should prescribe Iron for you. That should help with the tiredness.
  20. Welcome to the forums. Check out the various posts in the different areas of the site, you'll find lots and lots of info.
  21. Thanks everyone. It just hit me how fast this is happening. I went to the initial seminar on April 6, had my first appointment with the doc on May 18 and now will have surgery on July 12 (just over 4 weeks away)! Yup, the emotional roller coaster has begun... LOL
  22. Hope all went well with your surgery and you are recovering well!
  23. I would still pursue it. Sounds like the doc that you spoke with doesn't know about the surgeries and is trying to scare you out of it. You've done research so you know the risks. Sure, there is a risk of death - but it happens very rarely. There's also a risk of getting hit by a vehicle and dying from that - but that doesn't prevent you from walking down the street or driving does it? Sorry, I'm not familiar with the military policies on this, but I would really get to another doctor instead of the one you spoke to.
