Although I knew I'd been accepted for the MGH WLS center a few months ago, I had no idea about which surgery my insurance would approve, or if they'd approve it at all as my BMI is between 35 and 37. I met with my surgeon on the 31st, we discussed the pros and cons of RNY v. VSG and we both agreed the sleeve was best for me. My insurance, Harvard Pilgrim in Mass. states they won't approve the sleeve, but my surgeon said they were approving it on a case-by-case basis. I heard I'd been approved for the sleeve JUNE 2! I feel incredibly fortunate.
