I have never tried Optifast brand, but since it is a "national" product like Slim Fast or Adkins, it should be much better than your generic brands. Just my opinion but any shake that is premixed are always better than the powder that you have to mix. I just cannot get into the powder that I have to mix with Water or juice, etc.. Biggest tip I can give you that has helped me is always, always have plenty of ice with any of those shakes, keeping them cold helps the taste!

Just a suggestion,, they most likely are starting you on this in hopes that after surgery you will continue to buy and use the product. Almost all WLS people comsume some type of protien supplement. If you dont like it, my suggestion would be to try other types of protien mixes - if you have a GNC store nearby they often will let you "tatste test" a protien mix. I totally love liquid Protein shots - they are in a test tube and come in various ranges of protien grams. I buy mine at Sams & at Costco's - fruit punch flavor I mix it with crytal light. The kind I got at Sams Club is 32 grams of protein..that is a lot of protien!! I mix it with orange crystal light and it is really good. You can get protien tubes at WalMart, CVS Pharmacies, Wal Greens pharmacies, etc... may be worth it for you prior to surgery to try a few just so you have some that you like for when you come home and need to kick in the liquid & protein.

Good luck..

I have done optifast and it wasn't too bad tasting. My problem with it is that I was still hungry between shakes. But maybe you won't be. Congratulations on the date and good luck!

I've done Optifast and HMR. HMR is delicious, Optifast is horrible. To make the shakes more palatable, my husband and I bought an arsenal of Torani syrups. My favorite was vanilla shake with vanilla syrup, his was chocolate shake with vanilla syrup. My best friend did it too and her favorite combo was orange shake with Crystal Light for flavoring (that was my second favorite). You may have a different taste experience than the three of us. We all completely hated the taste of the shakes alone. The formulation that we had was Optifast 70 which only has chocolate, vanilla, and orange flavors. Since you have strawberry and not orange, it sounds like you might have Optifast 800 which I hear is a lot tastier than Optifast 70.

First of all, I LOVE your name! It made me laugh!!! :)

I did Optifast for 6 months about 2 years ago...lost 90 lbs on that stuff!! LOL! (All gained back of course and then some...thank goodness for the sleeve). Weird thing was that I did not like much of the solid stuff so I mainly did liquids. I got a hand blender and mixed the stuff with other things... Ex: chocolate or Vanilla with a cup of coffee (course now you should use decaf) and a touch of artificial sweetner like stevia. strawberry, I mixed with Diet orange soda (you won't be able to have soda after...so you could try crystal light flavors! YUM!) and some crushed ice. Delicious! I also used some of the International sugar free coffees to mix with Water and their flavors but not sure now if caffeinated or not?? You'd have to check, but together they were better than starbucks. I often used sugar free syrups to add to whatever I was mixing to change it up a bit. Hot vs. Iced etc too. I did NOT like the chicken soup...but the tomato...YUMMY!!!!

I truly found Optifast was some of the tastiest diet stuff out there. AND I thought it was the easiest diet I was EVER on. 600 calories a day...no thinking about food choices. If only I could last on it forever....haha! The sleeve will help me keep my weight down though!

Goodluck and I wish I still had some for my preop diet that is beginning again since my surgery delay. (PS. Tried Medifast and it was yucky to me in comparison.)

Rooting for you!!!

Joan
