Ten years ago I had by-pass surgery. My starting weight was 562. It has been a long road, and I wanted my goal to be 180. I am 218 and now I find out my weight for 5'1" should be 143. I really think I can get that thin. HELP!!!!!

Luckily I didn't have either of those two issues, but I heard they're both very common. The shoulder pain is from the anesthesia and gas, which will go away eventually. Walk as much as you can and it will help. I could feel stuff going down into my stomach when I drank, but it didn't hurt. You had a breathing tube in your throat while you were under anesthesia during surgery, so that might be what's a little sore now.

Celebrities Ugh Why do we even care about their opinions in life. These people are told what to say by publicist. Many say they didn't have WLS but they did. Even if they did it the old fashioned way its ok. We all have our own issues...Right? Only thing that matters is you and the people you love. BTW We do have a rants and rage section on this site.

For the VSG surgery they cram that bougie down your throat so they can make your sleeve the right size. It'll be sore for awhile. Upper back pain is common with all procedures because of trapped gas and I'm convinced when you're knocked out, they flop you on the operating table like a limp fish.

    Nervious about life after

See I read this as: "Worried About After Life" and then I was like, "Well hells! Aren't we all?!!!" (I seem to be drivin' the bus to Hell most days...just sayin'...) bahahahaha! Relax. Totes norm! The life AFTER will be one where you still have to worry about what you eat, rather than what you can't eat or have to give up. You will lament at some point, that you can still eat all the crap in the world with little NO restriction, while eating real healthy food fills you up too fast. Cruel Irony thy name is Life.

    Vitamins

re: calcium - I actually take 2000 mg (500 mg 4x a day) because I have osteoporosis, but 1500 mg (500 mg 3x a day) is pretty standard for RNY patients. Don't forget - we don't absorb everything 100%, which is why we have to do things like take two multivitamins a day, too - whereas most people just take one. So no, 1500 mg is probably not excessive for a WLS patient. P.S. VSG patients don't have the same malabsorbtion issues that RNY patients do, but I think most of them are told to take 1500 mg a day, too.

My nutritionist told us not to get gummies. She said "If it looks like candy, and sounds like candy, ITS CANDY."
