Surgery for 70 year old female

Hello, I am 67 and just had the sleeve done on 10/9/19. I am too early in the process to share experiences because at this point I am only on full liquids. Pretty much constantly drinking and also making sure I get enough protein. First 2 days from surgery itself was a little rough but nothing unbearable. I had to stay in hospital an extra day because I could not get enough fluids because I was so sick from the anesthesia which is something I expected from previous anesthesia. I am 5 days post op and feel great. No pain. Just tender and sore from the procedure itself. Cant lift, pull, drag etc etc for several wks. Dont worry able the age thing, it's how you feel within your self of if you should have it or not. I have high B/P , high cholesterol, osteoarthritis, COPD (from smoking too many years). My BMI was around 36. Beginning of process I was 213lbs and day of surgery 197lbs. If I didn't have those other medical conditions I wouldn't have even been consisdered a candidate for the sleeve because of my BMI. Not seeing results yet, still getting rid of the tremendous amounts of IV fluids I received in the hospital. Extra fluids should be gone in a couple more days. I hope this is some useful informative thoughts for you.

Surgery for 70 year old female

67 when I had surgery. 68 now. Best thing I could ever have done. Have lost well over 100#,and mobility has improved. Blood pressure better. Surgery has helped me a lot. I do go and have B12 shots once a month and biotin for hair loss and nails splitting. I do exercise daily and keep, track of everything I eat or drink. I watch, protein and fiber carefully.

    Weight coming off too slow

I started at a BMI of 40. SW was 209. I am almost 3 months out and have lost about 25 pounds. So I have lost about 33% of my excess weight. While this is a lower amount of loss it is the expected percentage for 3 mths out. It is so hard not to compare to others but there are so many factors that effect rate of loss from starting weight, gender, hight, and medical considerations. So I am averaging about 2 pounds a week. I am OK with this rate loss as long as I continue to trend down. Best of luck on your journey and remember to follow your plan, drink water, move, and enjoy life. New_Me 2019

    Halloween Costume..

I havenโ€™t tried on a costume in years, mainly because I could never fit anything. For some reason this one is so symbolic to me. I wanted the girls to dress up in a incredible costume but they had other ideas of what they wanted to be this year. Maybe next year ๐Ÿ˜‚ . . Do we like it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ or NO ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿฝ . .

    Malnutrition Diagnosis?

Not diagnosing and please talk to your doctor. But generally it's better to be on the low end of normal for WBC's. It generally means your body isn't having fight off anything or make repairs. For instance smokers generally have high end normal to slightly above normal WBC's due to their body having to constantly be attempting to repair all the damage smoking causes.

3 weeks post op down only 10 lbs

it's a stall. Your 500-600 calories a day is fine - and do NOT worry about calories at this point. Only focus on protein and fluid intake. you are what we call a "lightweight" and you're not going to lose nearly as fast as someone who starts at over 300 lbs. Combine that with the stall and....you're probably right where you need to be. Just stick to your plan. The weight will start to drop again once the stall breaks, and you WILL lose your excess weight as long as you stick to your surgeon's plan.
