    Calories for maintenance

You lost fairly quickly, which implies that you still have a relatively strong metabolism, so you have some work to do. As a very rough approximation of where you should be, take the average of your last couple months' loss; for every 5 lb (2.3-ish kg), that's about a 500 calorie per day deficit that you need to make up. For instance, I was losing at 10lb per month the last three months of serious weight loss, which works out to around 1000 calories per day deficit; I was averaging 1100 calories per day, and am now maintaining (for the past 6-7 years) in the 2100-2200 range. This will at least give you an idea of how large the steps up that you should be making to ease into your maintenance range. I started working toward maintenance at the six month mark when I was 10 lb from my goal (or about a month away) so I started increasing things then to slow things down; as this was early November, I in part just let the holidays happen and it took another two months to lose that final 10 lb, and I had minimal overshoot; I still needed to fine tune things from there, but I was pretty close by then.

Hey guys and girls, I posted not that long ago regarding calories required at maintenance, I’m near 8 months PO and have reached my goal weight about 2 months ago (176 pounds), over the past 2 months I have continued to keep losing and now sitting around 152 pounds. I saw my dietician two days ago and she had requested that I up my caloric intake as it was sitting at 700-900 calories a day before. She done up a draft plan with items she wanted me to consume, some of the changes she made was changing my no fat milk to full fat milk. The last two days I’ve eased into it and have been consuming around 1300 calories a day which include 105 grams of protein, 90 grams of carbs and 60 grams of fat. Still losing fairly quick .5 or a pound in 3 days. Today I will up it to 1500 calories and see how I do, those of you hitting the maintenance stage. how long did it take trial and error to find that “sweet spot” where you didn’t gain nor lose? How many calories do you need to consume to be able to maintain? How long have you maintained for? How long PO were you when you had to move into a maintenance routine? I have been incorporating healthy fats as requested, what are some of your go to meals/snacks that are healthy to up the calories?

    Mindful Eating Help

I was a fast eater and drinker. It took me about 3 weeks to learn to pace myself. It hurts when the RNY pouch gets too full. I learned to take a bite and I can feel it going to my pouch then take another then quit before it starts creeping back up the down pipe. It's definitely an art and a learning experience. Liquid doesn't seem to be a problem now that I'm in week 5 post-op.

Celebrities Ugh Why do we even care about their opinions in life. These people are told what to say by publicist. Many say they didn't have WLS but they did. Even if they did it the old fashioned way its ok. We all have our own issues...Right? Only thing that matters is you and the people you love. BTW We do have a rants and rage section on this site.

There are some good ideas in this thread. I'm also thinking about starting the Beck Diet Solution book, which is supposed to be about changing habits (vs. really being a diet). I haven't read it, so not really an endorsement, but a friend really liked it.

    Pre Surgery jitters

Start a Journal! Although I have been lax about it lately as i have been really busy. For weeks before my surgery up to about a month after i wrote everything in a journal. It helped me express my feelings, worries and successes through each day both pre op and post op. I also have a weight loss thermometer next to my desk on the wall, where every Monday i come to work and update it from the week before.. ( in different pretty colors LOL). It has really helped me see where i was to where i am going. ALso the before and after pics are great idea!

LONG My wonderful, wonderful 15 year YOUNG Andrew died January 3rd. I'm still having trouble processing. This was a terrible, awful, avoidable accident. Andrew was video chatting with 4 other friends. The jist of the story is....kids were talking, laughing, daring each other about "silly" things. Not sure of all specific details (we will never know) They were all teasing/taunting/joking with each other - story involving a neck and a rope - how tight one could pull , won't say any more details, use your imagination. One child saw most of what was going on screen. He screamed, ran to his mother and then called 911. Police followed to look into the situation. My daughter was confused about any possible problem with police/ went upstairs - found Andrew in bedroom closet. This boy, grant? is devastated about what happened. He didn't want to go funeral/hasn't been able to talk to my daughter yet. This must be a terrifying nightmare that he will never forget. Andrew was/is such a terrific young man. Handsome, smart/funny. Any and all people were very lucky to have known him. He lit up a room. He was/is a terrific son/brother/nephew/friend and of course my grand-son. his sister, 18 year old Morgan - is handling things the best she can. She lost her younger brother!! How terrible is that!! She has a large support group of friends. She cries so often - but luckily friends are there to hold her.! my "little" wonderful 11 yr young Ethan has more trouble wrapping around the situation. Understanding what was going on. He slowing is understanding that his big brother will never come home, my daughter has a large community of friends in her neighborhood, many people from temple - so much necessary support. She has 4 long time friends from different states that came to support her. BTW - her temple holds 300 people - standing room only. Shows how much my Andrew and his family are loved. We are so sad, terrified about this tragedy. We will all always love our Andrew. Forever and ever. The problem now is dealing with the aftermath. Losing Andrew - the brother, grandson - friend but for my daughter and my son-in-law - their son - i can't imagine how they feel. - they have friends and family at their house, one after another - so they haven't been alone. Next week, and after, two more friends will be their for her. But eventually they will be all alone! Their lives will never be the same. they are seeing a therapist individually, and the whole family. They also are looking into finding a group of parents who have lost etc etc thank you letting me unburden myself on you all. kathy
