It's the only real exercise I can sustainably perform. So it's my main squeeze... The way I see it is I have to walk in every day life so I'll just lose what I was always going to lose with it (no accelerated weight loss) but if I hit the gym for 18hrs 9 days a week then break my ankle I will gain back the 50 extra lbs I unnaturally lost. That's my lazy humble opinion. BUT strength training will do wonders for the skin/muscle tone and cardio increases endurance. Do what you can, at the pace you can sustain. Safe Journey 🎈

    Walking as exercise after surgery

Hmmmm, two things: 1. If your doc/nurse said no treadmill, do what they say. You can contact them and say you feel great and would like to start on the treadmill, but it’s not a great start to unilaterally contradict your doc’s explicit recommendation. Sets you up for a bad precedent, because there are going to be a LOT of things in the next few months that the doc recommends and you don’t want to follow. The introduction of solid foods being a huge one - most people struggle with feeling just fine and ready to eat, granting yourself a hall pass early is just going to start you down a slippery slope. That said... 2. Everyone’s doc is different. I didn’t have any explicit restrictions on exercise, and while I didn’t go on a treadmill, I do live in a city and was easily walking three or 4 miles a day going from client to client by nine days out. So I won’t say it’s across the board a bad idea, just that your doctor may have very specific reasons for saying you shouldn’t be on a treadmill.

My hubby is also the Nervous Nelly of our house. Remind yours that you've both been through this type of surgery before. Try to get him to focus on the future, not the present. What the two of you will be doing in a year, in 5 years, in 10 years. How does that future look without the surgery? Best of luck with your surgery!

    Actual time off work

I'm a Crisis Screener in an ER and in the community. I took the full 6 weeks and I am going back to work next week. I actually decided that I'm not returning to the same company as it's high stress and is not healthy given my recent surgery and ongoing self care needed especially in the beginning. I took a position doing the same work but for a different organization, in a different county, with lower demand for the services I provide. Just do what's best for you as this is a life changing surgery. Mine was actually a revision due to complications. I only took off for 2 weeks for the first one and regret that. Your job will survive without you for an extra couple of weeks...take as much as your doctor will give you. YOU are more important than your job! 800 Calories Per Day

Naw, your joke about methadone is not offensive. I am not some fragile person that cannot take a joke. The only drug I ever struggled with was weed, I still love it. But sadly I cannot use it or it will consume me, all I will want to do is get high. And I don’t mean just a little high, I mean like semi coma high. I am an alcoholic to the bone, I cannot even have one drink or I will drink every day after that. The only option I have is to abstain and stay sober. I used to go to OA about 10 years ago. I never got really that active into it, but liked the meetings. I have found a meeting near my house, but haven’t gone yet. I am a food addict for sure, I will abuse food just like a drug.

    Puking: Post-Op vs. Pre-Op

Haha pooping at work is the best. You get paid to poop! I mean, I wouldn't want gross, excessive pooping at work. Or pooping without making it to the bathroom. But regular pooping... the best. I have started carrying spare underwear in my purse, though... just in case. Hasn't happened yet. Fingers crossed.
