  1. Am I the only lunatic who shoves blankets/pillows/etc. under my clothes to show how much smaller I am than I used to be? Exhibit A: a pair of pants that I could not fit into/could barely fit into for at least a month after surgery, now with room for an entire fluffy blanket...might be time for some new jeans...

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

It finally happened! I’ve been doing intermittent fasting, tracking everything I eat on MFP and being more conscious of how much I’m eating, and I’ve been moving/walking/jogging more. I’m so excited to see the scale moving in general after two months of stagnation, but even more excited to be UNDER 200 LBS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! 198.8!!!!!! Wooohoooo!!!!
  5. Hi everyone! There are several cool places to wall climb (I guess it’s called bouldering?!?!) and I’m trying to decide whether it’s something I’m physically ready for. I’m curious if it’s something anyone else on here tried and where you were weight/fitness-wise when you started. I’ve lost 80lbs but have been plateauing for a while, and trying to focus on doing interesting and new active things to both build good habits/fun active ways to spend my time AND maybe start toning up some things a bit. I’m just worried that at 200lbs maybe I’m not ready for the wall climbing type thing, and I don’t want to go try it and totally embarrass myself, you know? Anyone have experiences they can share? Thanks!!

    Single DUE to surgery

Hope you are doing well and that whatever decision you made regarding fiancé is feeling good and right!

    Single DUE to surgery

I hope your recovery and first few months post-op are going well! Sending you positive thoughts as you’re working through this frustrating and messy situation. I’m so in awe of your bravery in getting out when you did, I can’t imagine the complex emotions (and logistics) of disentangling yourself from such a situation.

    Single DUE to surgery

I don’t see my divorce as a result of my surgery. I see my surgery and, eight months out, my divorce as part of the same thing. I’d been doing a lot of reflection and self-exploration which led to the decision to have the surgery and to live my life the way I wanted without my weight holding me back. That same sense of self-exploration and wanting to live life for me on my terms is what led me to the really challenging decision to tell my husband I wanted a divorce. We are great friends, but not great partners. That was true both before and after the surgery.

    Food Before and After Photos

Decided to make myself a colorful plate to make me feel like spring even though it’s chilly outside! I did end up adding a tablespoon of hummus for some of the veggies :) At first I wasn’t going to post this because I was thinking “that’s so embarrassing/bad that I ate ALL of that! It’s so much!l” and then I realized how ridiculous that sentiment was/how different my perspective on serving size is these days!

    Any regrets with RNY?

I’m so sorry for your loss, what a challenging thing to deal with - I hope you are holding up okay and giving yourself some care and love right now. I completely understand why you turned to food, and I applaud your decision to try to take a different route. I’m going through a divorce right now and I definitely turned to food more than I should have lately, but have been turning in around the last few weeks. I just started intermittent fasting which I’ve been loving, but I think it would be really hard presurgery...do you have an amount you have to lose to qualify for surgery? Do you like the person who did your evaluation? I ended up continuing to see the person who did mine for the last year and it’s been a wonderful support/growth/reflection tool! Sending you thoughts and hugs!
  11. Congratulations! You look great - I definitely see a difference! It’s always harder to give ourselves the credit/see it for ourselves, but wow - you’ve been working super hard and it shows!
  12. Congratulations and best of luck! I have nothing to add but wanted to say congrats and best wishes! (And as others have said, ignore the rude jerk...of course a dude wants to weigh in on taking contraception bc he knows SO much about it...lol)
  13. Thank you for all the veggie suggestions! I love asparagus and green beans but don’t make them enough, and when I do make them and other veggies I don’t put much effort/thought into how I prep them which probably contributes to me not being excited by them! Looking forward to messing around in the kitchen a bit!

@AnnieD78 how are you doing? I’m curious what your thoughts are sleeve vs bypass and whether additional questions/concerns/anxieties have come up. I know the waiting period before surgery was FILLED with millions of questions and worries every day, so I wanted to see how you are doing and if we could help support you as you’re in the waiting game!
  15. Maybe I will also see if I can finally get into broccoli/cauliflower - they’ve never been my jam but I feel like with the right seasoning/sauce/preparation maybe I’ll like them! I have baby carrots and bell pepper as snacks right now which I love, but it’s time for me to start branching out more with veggies!
  16. Thank you so much for that reassurance! I did buy eggs the other day but haven’t hard-boiled them yet, I’m going to make sure to do that today so I have them on hand! I did get lots of veggies and I have chicken I’ll cook up too. I like the idea of trying to start with a denser meal (vs yogurt) and seeing how that impacts my hunger and snacking levels! Thanks!!
  17. I had a super high calorie (relatively speaking) and super high carb day yesterday and had trouble avoiding grazing frequently during my window. For at least today (which is last day of spring break/working from hone), I’m going to narrow my window to six hours instead of eight. Pushing back first meal to 1:30 and going to try to stay focused and busy between now and then! I figure that it makes sense for the first few days/weeks on IF to be a time to play around with windows and what works best for me! I know things will also look different once I’m back at work and have a different daily routine!

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Also, as of this morning I’m at 200.8! Onederland is closer than ever! Today’s weight doesn’t count because I only count my Monday weigh ins, but still! As I’ve mentioned before I’ve been hovering 203-207 since 2/1 (lowest in that two month period was 202.6 on 2/12, otherwise it’s been bouncing between 203.5-206.8) and after starting IF and being strict about tracking my calories I’ve lost 5.8 lbs since Monday. My period also started and I generally hold onto more weight the week or so before and then release it, so I’m guessing that combined with diet changes this week have made a difference! Like I said it doesn’t COUNT yet and I shouldn’t have even weighed myself yet, but I’m so excited that I’m closer than I’ve ever been! I haven’t been under 200lbs since I was 12/13 years old!!!!! Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get to have a onederland celebration soon???

For me yogurt is hit or miss. There are some days it feels filing and other days I’m hungry again so soon after! I like the idea of being thoughtful about the density of my first meal - I’ve been having trouble staying reasonable with my first IF meal because by that point I’m really hungry so it ends up taking more food to feel full. I might try out some denser protein and veggies vs. yogurt and the other stuff I’ve been starting with! Thanks for suggesting it!

I’m so sorry you’re feeling this way right now. The first few weeks after surgery are really hard - I found it to be a super emotional time during which I couldn’t even rely on my old friend food to help me cope. For me, and for many others, the first few weeks were the hardest but once over the hump my emotions evened out and my body had healed more from surgery and was able to start losing. I hope you experience a similar upswing and that you keep your mind open to it being possible. Best of luck and we’re here for you if you need support during the challenging first few weeks post surgery! 💖💖💖

    Entered Onederland!!!

Congratulations! I've been knocking on onederland's door for about two months now (fluctuating between 203-207 since 2/1), hoping to join you there soon!

    Weight-loss funnies

    Omg too real!!
  23. Thank you! I've been skimming through past posts though I'll admit I didn't get even close to looking at all 153 pages! I'll work on catching up because I don't want to make anyone repeat themselves/ask questions that have been asked a million times! I definitely want to cut down on my carbs - I was kind of horrified to realize that my carbs were around 175 the last few days even though my calories were good! I think I'm going to start off by focusing on lowering overall carbs but also paying attention to net carbs and fiber/carb ratios. I need to cut down on "fluff" so I'm thinking net carbs might be a good way to steer me toward 'better' carbs as I'm working on lowering carbs overall. But we'll see what happens with that! I'm thinking as a starting place to be under 75g carbs total and then under 50g "net carbs" (i.e. carbs minus fiber). Trying to decide if that's a reasonable/worthwhile goal, but I think it's a good and ambitious-for-me starting point even if the numbers are still way higher than what others do!
  24. Hello team! I’ve been catching up on some of the thread as I’m a new convert to IF (I started yesterday...) I’m doing the 16:8 plan and already really excited about the mental shifts that are part of this in terms of my eating patterns and planning. I’m on spring break right now so I’m doing 12:30-830 window, then once I’m back at work next week I’m going to do 11-7 (since I’ve been waking up a bit later this week). I am doing about 1/2 a premier protein in my coffee when I wake up and otherwise just water/tea/clear and calorie free liquids during fasting hours. I’ve also gotten strict with myself about tracking everything in MFP again over the last week, so between that and IF I’m hoping to focus more on my macros, eating more veggies and cutting down on carbs. I’m doing this now in part because I’m in a monster stall (two months hovering between 203-206) and because I have many bad/problematic eating habits that I was able to get away with not addressing my first several months that I’d really like to start getting serious about dealing with now. Who knows if I’ll lose more weight - I kind of hope so but I’m also kind of happy with where I’m at right now, or working on getting there. Mostly what I want to tackle is my eating and huger patterns, and I think IF will be a really great tool in helping me do that! 🎉🎉🎉
