    2 Years Post Op

Hell Everyone, I had my surgery in October 2016. I have lost over 100 pounds. My starting weight was 349 pounds. I currently weight around 246 pounds, so I still have a lot to go. These last two years have been tough. I got through college during my surgery. Everything was going great. As college got challenging I started to eat like before my surgery. I ate fried foods, dessert and drank soda. All the habits that they told us to kick, I started them again. I’ve been eating normally again, and bigger portions, but I’ve managed to stay active and keep my weight down. I graduated college and transferred to another school with an all you can eat buffet style dining. I ate weirdly. Some days I’ll have salad and water, other days I’ll have chicken wings and cake. I just picked and choose, but always felt bad about my eating. But still would remain active. The semester has come to an end and I’m back at home. I have officially promised myself that I would give up all those foods and bad habits. I will be starting to go to the gym on a schedule, and I have made an appointment to see my surgeon, and will be starting my vitamins again. This has been a last tough few years and caused me to lose track. Now I’m ready to get my journey back on track! I am starting LPN school next month and I’m super excited. So I want to get my life in order AGAIN. FYI- I’m 24 Now. What are your favorite healthy snacks? Drinks? What exercise do you do? My target areas are my stomach, thighs, back and arms.

My Vit B12 was so high that it was out of the highest range possible. I'm talking in the thousands plus. My doctor, to my surprise, laughed. I took that to mean it wasn't the end of the world. She suggested that I take my B12 once or twice a week instead of every day. I showed my sons my results, too (they are both medical doctors) and they told me not to be alarmed either. At 6mos I am slightly anemic as well, but even then, I was told not to be overly concerned. Eat meat. Don't forget to down my iron. Take your vitamins as directed and it will be okay. I wouldn't say this if I hadn't experienced the same feelings as you did. While it is possible to overdo the fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K), your water soluble vitamins (B and C vitamins) just pass in your urine. It actually takes a long time to get to genuine danger levels. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis (an autoimmune disorder). Perhaps you have an undiagnosed thyroid condition. Hypothyroidism is extremely common and is easily treated with medication. Write to me privately if you want to talk more or if you'd like me to ask one of my sons about any specific lab results. (Not a substitute for your own doctor... just an offer to perhaps ease your mind until you can see someone.)

Thank you all for your replies and advice!! Good suggestions. I will pack and move in February and then have surgery in March after I'm all settled in my new house. Having surgery right before moving would be too much!

Hi hope you are having a great New Year's Eve. I had RnY on Dec 10th. Had surgery as much or maybe a little more because of my comorbidities. I have had exactly 3 shots of insulin since Dec 9th. I was taking 5 a day, 6 on Wednesdays. I have lost 25 pounds since I began this journey in October. Whooo whooo! I try to walk everyday. I have a brace on both legs. They don't hold me back too much. I need knee replacement surgery on the one knee. My failure to lose weight for that found me on this journey. I had started it before but lost a lot of weight just going by the diet guidelines and chickened out. So thrilled I commeted to the journey this time. I give myself health and happiness for the new year.

Congrats on the new place! I'd do it after you move. Both because of the weight restrictions, but also so that you can set up the new house to be super comfortable for when you get home. Also, you'll have a chance to set up your new kitchen with post-op in mind. During the move, clean out your fridge/pantry of all the foods you won't be eating. Put the kitchen tools you'll need on lower shelves so you can reach them after surgery when you may not be able to reach up high. Organize your clothes according to size so you can go closet shopping when you start to lose. Otherwise, if you're like me, you'll be in your old house with half of it packed and in chaos. You'll get to start if all off right.
