I had my second fill on 4/28 and my weight was 206 lbs I weighed myself today and I am at 197 lbs.. I have not been able to keep anything down... if you know what I mean.. I have been trying to sip water, tea, OJ, and broth but I just feel a slight tightness and while I sleep it just comes up? Have any suggestions?
Hey,
Not sure on the bruising, but my doctor won't do fills for the first 6 weeks as he said it takes that long for the body to heal. I would talk to your doctor about doing a smaller dose for your next fill. Try not to worry it causes you to release chemicals that actually makes you gain weight. Happy thoughts your way. I'm sure the 2nd time around you'll be fine. Good luck!
Hey Dana,
Try to relax. Everything will go just fine. I am 4.5 weeks post op and doing awesome! I'm even out walking a mile a day. I too was nervous about the surgery, but it honestly goes so fast. I had to get a patch from the doctor to put behind my ear to stop me from reacting to the meds they put you to sleep with. This helped to calm be because I knew I wouldn't throw up after surgery. The best suggestion I have is to take someone with you that will be supportive and loving. Focus on the positives of surgery. In 4 weeks I was taken off my Metformin for insullin resistance and couldn't be happier. You will be just fine. Happy thoughts and Best of luck! :w00t:
It has been 4.5 weeks since my lapband surgery. I am in the end part of my week 2 of soft foods. I have lost a total of 25lbs since surgery. The last two days have been a struggle for me as I began to crave various foods. I have been driving 2 1/2 hours to my appts. and spending most of my day in the car and in the dr. offices. I'm exhausted. I gave in tonight and ate 1/4c of raviolis. They weren't that good and after I ate them I felt fine. So I began to stress if my lapband is even working. Any advice as to how to deal with days like today?
Well, it's been a long time since I posted here. And I have to say, I never thought I would be following exactly the same story as so many on the different posts. The first few months I was ok, patient with the process but also impatient to get the weight off. Ate a few things I shouldn't have. Tried more than once to eat a food that wouldn't go down just to prove to my brain that it was a "no go". Worried this would be another attempt and failure when I hit the first plateau.
It did move slowly but surely, in small spurts. Then I got to a plateau and stayed there a couple months, and I was hoping and praying I hadn't wasted all that effort only to lose 20lbs. But once while I was in the plateau I thought, well if the lbs aren't moving but I'm feeling smaller, why don't I take some measurements? Well, I had lost 4 1/2 inches JUST FROM MY WAIST!!!! And an inch off each thigh!! I couldn't believe it! That was the encouragement I needed at the time.
I've gotten a total of 5 fills so far. The last one was very small but effective. Some days are easier than others and I feel sometimes like I work for each pound that comes off. But I am down 42lbs so far and can't even believe it because it's been so long since I've been here!
I've been walking 3 miles 3 times a week, bootcamp 2 days a week, on the odd weekend I might wake up early and add another day of walking, kettlebell work out or wii fit. One day the bootcamp had us carry 35lb kettlebells to work out with about 1/4 mile to the park. I was so tired after carrying it that far but I was thinking, "My god, I was carrying more than that much around on my poor body. NO WONDER I felt so bad!!" That thing was so heavy! Anyway, the alternating vigorous workout and moderate workout is working to get the lbs moving and I look forward to the workouts more and more and have to talk myself into it less and less. I'm getting there.
I'm so happy I did this. I am still learning I've got to take small bites or suffer the consequences, eat slowly, give each bite the time to work it out before taking another. I've been successful at quitting soda, caffeine, sweets, most carbs most of the time. I have learned that ground turkey or chicken in lettuce wraps are very tasty and satisfying and can be found at many restaurants. (I even make my own version of it at home.) Eggbeaters can be satisfying for breakfast, a breadstick really can be enough bread for a day. Cooking a big bunch of protein food for lunches is easier than trying to find a variety of places to eat where there is actually something healthy to order off the menu. I try to vary my food choices and add green veggies when possible. Grilled aparagus is so yummy. I can't imagine I would have said any of these things prior to having this surgery so I am thankful it has helped me to make a lot of changes that have been good for my health, mind, and the shape of my body. The brain is still taking a while to keep up with the food and body changes, but I actually had a dream that I was looking down at my body and it was healthy and at a healthy weight and looked awesome so I figure my subconcious is finally getting with the program and letting me know. I am THRILLED with the progress I've made so far, even if it's slower than some.
A footnote here...I was covered by Tricare Standard for the surgery which was done in Oct 09, and they just finally settled with the hospital (6 months later) after sending it back denied 6 times for some nitpicking detail. My cost out of pocket is just over $800 and only because a surgical assistant was used that didn't have what Tricare considered the "right" credentials to perform the assistant duties for the surgery. When you schedule your surgery, make sure the Dr takes Tricare and is a Network Provider and gets preauthorization. Make sure the assistant they use is approved and preauthorized and accepts Tricare, ditto with the anesthesiologist, and same with the hospital. Each of these participants must be approved, preauthorized separately and preferably in Network or you may be stuck with more of the bill than you expected and it's up to you to ask each of them the questions and verify with Tricare that they actually are approved, Network providers, preauthorized, etc. NO ONE WILL HELP YOU WITH THAT. Then, it is up to each of those participants to file all the correct paperwork with all the exact coding to ensure they get the claim paid (I made a lot of phonecalls when I started to get nervous that the bill wasn't going to be covered). I guess the moral of the story is, if you make sure all of the participants have worked with Tricare enough to know and comply with all of their requirements, you hopefully won't spend 6 months wondering if you'll get stuck with a $43,000 hospital bill and all the dr, anesthesiologist, surgical assistant bills. I'm just so glad the claims were finally paid. Thank you Tricare!
THANK YOU MOST OF ALL, DR. SARAH J LEE FOR CHANGING MY LIFE!!
Went to my PCP yesterday and I had lost 9 pounds already! That was with eating the "Last Super", well maybe several of them before starting the pre-opt diet 5 days ago! 1 more week to go til surgery! :cursing:
I was actually able to get out of bed this morning after my first workout at the gym last night without as much discomfort as I thought I would have. I know if I keep up the hard work, my surgeon will be very happy with me come lab band day. I will go back tomorrow night and perhaps I will be able to walk the treadmill for more than 15 minutes. Keep your fingers crossed.
I just had my first fill today and I feel fine. My doctor says to have liquids only for 3 days.
What did you do? What did your doctor recommend or have you do?
Did anyone eat foods right after their fill?
Thanks
Well, if all goes well, one week from now I'll be home from surgery -- in pain, doped up, and past the worst of it.
I can tell I'm going to need a valium or something!
Just had some yummy sugar free jello. Must say that being able to have popsicles, jello and broth kinda makes this easier. I am still not liking the taste of optifast, but I am pushing through that because I only have to put up with it for 10 more days! I like the ready made optifast shakes(vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry). They come packaged in what looks like a juice box, so its good for on the go. The optifast creamy soup is good as well and I add a little extra chicken bouillon to make it a little more palatable. The shakes that come like a powder and you have to mix is not that bad, although not my favorite. I have a little hand mixer(like the bullet), and that helps. I mix it with a little ice and ice cold water. I find it hard to make them taste as good as the alrady mixed ones. I also bought three different boxes of the optifast meal replacement bars. Chocolate (which is my favorite), Berry yogurt bar(yuck) and Chocolate peanut butter bar(double yuck). I It was pretty expensive so I kinda have to eat the disgusting ones at some point. I am going to save those for the last couple of days!! So, I have gone from 272 to 265.2 in these last four days. I feel a bit more energetic than I thought I would be. Have been cleaning my house like a mad women so everything is in its place and ready to go for post surgery. Every morning I get up, it is getting easier to get in the mind set that is needed for this diet.
Had my visit after my first fill of 2 wks ago. 4 more lbs gone. My Doc thinks I got this, so he said one more visit next month before going to a every three months visit. I feel like I am graduateing or something yeah!!!!!!!!! His words of advice stick to the 4 0z measurement at each meal I don't need to get ahead of myself on this. I agree weighing measureing your intake is critical.............it would be so easy to just eyeball my intake and let my brain confuse want with need.
I am 21 days Post Op from my sleeve operation and I weighed in this morning at 238 down from 269 pre op. Down 31 lbs. I am so happy. Just makes me wanna work harder on correct eating and excercise. I am moving along well!!! It feels really good!!!!! :cursing:
This is my first blog on this website. I am enjoying reading all of the posts and how honest everyone is. I had the LapBand Surgery done on February 25, 2010. To date I have lost 42 pounds. I am so excited for my future. My husband, my kids, and myself deserve this.
I was banded 6/08 and to date have lost almost 100 lbs! The weight loss has been very exciting! Slightly challenging but very exciting. I just have a quick question I was tightened about a month ago, and have had some sliming issues in the morning, so I figured it would be best not to eat solids until after about noon time. That was workign really well for me, however I am noticing that around the time Im due for the wonderful friend that us girls love, I seem to keep little to nothing down. I havnt changed eating habits, and I am comfortable with my band right now. I was just curious if it has happened to any other women? Maybe things are swollen so its restricts area more, maybe its psychological, who knows just thought I would ask Thanks!!

Hello everyone!
My name is Rebecca and I had LAP-BAND® surgery on March 25, 2008. As of today, I have lost 95 pounds. Although it has been an eventful journey, with both ups and downs, I am ultimately happy with my decision. I would still like to lose another 30-40 pounds, and I know I can do it.
My reason for this thread is because, to go along with my new body, I am also attempting to improve my mind. I have gone back to school and am currently enrolled in a Sociology class. My research paper for this class is on the effects of weight loss surgery on a person's self-esteem.
In order to complete this assignment, and help me pass this class, I ask you to please assist me by filling out the short survey I have attached.
ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated.
1. What is your age?
2. Have you had bariatric surgery yet?
3. If so, when was the date of your surgery?
4. What was your weight prior to the surgery?
5. What is your weight now? Or, if preferred and you wish to not give specific
weights, how much have you lost?
6. How much more weight fo you have to lose to achieve your “ideal” weight?
7. Has your ideal weight changed since you had surgery?
8. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your self-esteem prior to your
surgery?
9. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your self-esteem now?
10. Are there any particular reasons that you believe your self-esteem has
Improved, worsened, or stayed the same?
Thank you in advance....
Rebecca
First night at the gym - an hour and a half. Felt good to be working out, slowly, but boy am I sore already. I am afraid of what I will be like tomorrow. My surgeon is very happy I will have 2 months of exercise under my belt before my surgery. No one said losing weight was going to be easy.
All done. I was banded on Monday and am just beginning to feel good enough to post. Thank God for my unbeleiveable husband who has been taking really good care of me. Thanks to all who wished me well. I'll post again soon.
So the pain finally went away and my shoulder feels better. Thanks for the advice to keep moving bandsters. It really help, but now I'm in liquid diet hell. If I drink one more whey protein shake. I feel like I am starving. I have also been a tad bit bad. I ate a small bite of a chicken panini sandwich my daughter had,but after I chewed it I spit it out. Big mistake. That tiny morsel of normal came back in the form of exposive diarrhea, I know tmi, but someone has got to say it and days later I thought I could have a chicken chunk. It was soft and it's chicken right healthy. Wrong!!! Same thing that happen before happened again so no more cheating for me.But I have got to tell you I'm raging bitch  on this liquid diet.Yes I have gone from 316 to 296 in two weeks  but when came I use my teeth again.
i was so excited to have my first fill tomorow. But then i got a phone call today that all fills are gonna be done at a hospital from now on as an out patient prosidure, and now i gotta wait till May 7th so they can rescedule me. this really sucks cuz i keep getting hungry and im scarred i some how might start gaining weight. ohh well i guess i will have to wait i have no control over it i will just have to wait. anyway i just wanted to talk about it. have a good day everyone.
Dear Diary,
I am so tired of:
My knees hurting, :w00t:
My butt hang over both sides of a chair
People staring :smile2:.
Okay so - MOO people, I get it, I am fat!
That being said, I am not a happy fat person, I hate how I look and I hate how I feel. So what are you going to do about it you say?
I say, I am going to fix it!
The first step, like any addict, Admit it out loud!
Today I made the first and second step in rescuing myself from my life slipping into a parallel universe with Gilbert Grape's mom.
I went to my MD. I started bawling as soon as I tried to speak. I am not a tearful person. I am logical and non-emotive. I guess the pain runs deeper than I think.
My doctor was very understanding and spoke of good outcomes other patients had. She filled out my insurance paperwork and gave me suggestions on food and diet.
Next step- Harass the Insurance company until they let me in the "I CanChange" program
Feeling much better today. It seems that once I realize what the cause of my stress is...regardless of whether I can do anything about it... I feel better. Just knowing the cause it a relief!! So now I'm 6 days after my 2nd adjustment (well 2nd, 3rd & 4th) ... and I'm finally able to drink without pain. I'm still taking it slowly as far as eating is concerned. Egg salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. Keeping it soft just in case. I am in love with shadybrook farm turkey meatballs!!! As an italian with the mac daddy meatball recipe... I highly approve of these. They are nothing like MY meatballs, but as far as turkey products are concerned...they are GREAT!!! They have a little bit of spice, but just enough to make it interesting. The texture is great too. They are pretty low calorie vs beef products and they have a good amount of protein!!! They have been my "go-to" protein source!! Also, Jennie-O hot dogs are fabulous. A regular hot dog has about 170 calories each!! These have only 70 and taste just like a beef hot dog without the greasiness. And in my area... a package of the Jennie-O hot dogs is only $1!!! Crazy right?? Butterball makes a great Turkey Kielbasa too...that is awesome on the grill!! Shadybrook farms has good Sweet and Hot italian sausage... it's not bad. The texture isn't quite like pork sausage, but it's pretty decent!!
Anyone else have any secret foods they'd like to share???
This is an exciting milestone for me. Yep, I now have a BMI of 34.8... too thin for surgery. Well, according to my insurance that is. Of course, I still have a lot to lose to get to a healthy weight. But, I am down 40 pounds now and boy can I feel a difference. I have a ton more energy and everything seems physically easier. :smile2:
Its the little things that really add up. Its easier to do the dishes, the laundry, pick stuff up off the floor, even just reaching across the big tub to turn the water on and off for the kids when they take a bath. I know that sounds crazy, but I used to feel like I was gonna fall over when I did that because I had 40 more pounds hanging off of me and mostly in the front of my belly.
I was trying to explain to my DH just what a difference it has made and the best example I had was for him to imagine that he had to carry our daughter, Jillian, around all day every day for everything he had to do. She weighs 37 pounds right now. Yeah, its amazing!!!
Well, I can now say w/confidence that this band is really working for me. I am one month out from my last fill and my restriction is holding strong. Occasionally I feel a little too tight and occasionally I feel a little too loose, but for the most part I feel just right. I am eating three meals a day (no snacks) and not feeling hungry in between. Went to Vegas this past weekend and still lost two more pounds this week! Woohoo!!! :w00t:
I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
