Is my waist getting smaller, or is my booty getting bigger?

Is the glass half empty or 1/2 full.....do I continue to dig through the pile of manure to see if there's a pony underneath? Your mind is a battlefield and winning the physical battle is not only physical, but mental too!   I look at the total amount that I need to lose to be a healthy BMI and the number is menacing. 168 lbs to lose total....that is the same as losing one, whole overweight adult. I can look at the amount that I have to lose, or I can look at the amount in terms of weeks. If I lose, on average, 2 lbs per week, it will take me 20 months to lose all of the weight that I need to lose. It took me many years to put it on, so losing in 20 months would be AWESOME! I can even, more realistically look at 24 months to lose, plateau's and such, and that really is pretty reasonable too.   I was banded 3/1/11 and have had 2 fills: 3/30/11 - 1.6 cc and 4/18/11 - 1 cc. I am 21 lbs down since surgery and am very concious about my calories consumed. I guess the answer is that my waist is getting smaller...so is my booty....FYI!   My dad always said..."The best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time." This weight loss is like eating an elephant......so.....Grab me a fork and some BBQ sauce.

One more day

OK last day at work. Last liquid smelly ass protein drink at work. Im done. Tomorrow is my day Hopefully all will go well. Possibly loosing my gall bladder, hey at least its some more weight off me Hope everyone is doing well. Getting ready for my new journey. Wish me luck

Surgery Day

The day is finally here!!! I have my realize band put in this afternoon. Have to be at the hospital at 11:30 and I'm sure the surgery won't be until after 2. ( I hate afternoon surgeries!!!) A little nervous but I have my friends and family's support so that keeps me going. I'm soooo hungry. Wish I could at least have a glass of water. Well wish me luck and good luck to all of you!!

so happy

Well i am trying to figure out this new set up , it has been a while since i have been on this sight.. I am doing well my weight is not coming off as quick now. I have lost about 45 lbs total. But it is my size i am loving i tried on my first pair of 12 and i can button them yippeee. Although there is still a little muffin top when i do but i cant believe i fit into a 12.not to bad coming from a size 20. I still have to think healthy and eat healthy, i wont say i dont cheat here and there with a cookie or piece of cake but i try not to do that alot. I have joined a gym and have started last week. I had some health issues and was unable to excersize or even do walking distances so i am happy even for the small amount of excersize i can do. I have given away so many bags and bags of clothes that were to big for me that felt wonderful! I do wish i knew how to add pics on here before and after i am amazed at myself when i look at them. Actually i printed them and have them hanging on my wall at work to remind me of what i was. Still not smoking not even a puff that alone makes me feel great so glad i dont smoke anymore and if the band was my motivation for quiting so be it. I do wish everyone the best of luck patience and a wonderful journey i do believe this is a wonderful thing.

OH NO!!!!!

I winded up in the ER because the second day after my fourth fill (given Friday, April 15th), I couldn't drink anything but an eight oz cup of coffee the entire day. Of course I didn't go to the ER until the third day. I cried like a big baby since I was poked like 20 times by doctors who couldn't get to my port since my port is flipped. My surgeon was no where to be found so it was either doctors trying to get to my port or being admitted in the hospital. Finally they found a doc that was able to get to my port. I cried so much since it hurt so bad being ejected so much and moving the need all around in there trying to get to my port. I was crying even more when I saw he took all the liquid out. I was not happy about that. Why did he have to take all the freaking liquid out instead of taking some of it out. My fault too since I did not keep a log of how much fluid I have in my band. Now I have to go back to my surgeon which is the one who normally gives me my fills and also understands my port and does it in one shot. I don't know if she will refill me up to the point that I was good which was my third fill or do it over little by little. I have an appointment to see her this Wednesday (April 20, 2011). I am hoping that she can just fill me right back up to the Third fill. I am already starting to fell the hunger. I am trying my best and started from the beginning and doing the liquids to maintain and not gain any weight. I just wanted to share with you all what I went through.

4 Weeks Post-Op

April 19, 2011   I am Officially 4 weeks post-op today (but not quite 1 month, weird how that works out sometimes...)   I've got 2 more weeks of the mushy stage, I'm enjoying the food choices a lot more than during the liquid diet but Im not seeing the same dramatic weight loss. From my weigh-in last tuesday to today I have only lost 2 pounds. And the week before that it was only 3. I'm wondering if veeerrrrryyyy slooooowww weight loss is part of the infamous 3 week stall? Its a little disheartening to think I'm going to progress at such a slow rate from here on out.   On to the good stuff: I feel almost no pain at this point, though soreness and fatigue have become close compatriots lately. I'm tracking my food and doing much better about getting my protein in. Atleast once a day someone comments on how good I'm looking lately I've had to get rid of a few items of clothing that have simply become 'tentlike'. I feel better/more confident about the future, my health, and what my life will look like.   I've been walking but my Surgeon hasn't given me clearance for any more athletic exercise. Hopefully when I see him next week everything will look good and he will give me the go-ahead. That should kick-start things a bit!   ~ Bellah

go good its early... well not really its regular time but I am exhausted.   My cousin just ran the Boston Marathon yesterday and I couldn't be more emotional about it.   It was amazing seeing bodies pushed against the limits. Elite runners aside, I was loving yelling for these runners. I loved knowing I was adding to the push to the finish.   I'm so proud of my cousin, and so inspired to get on it. If she can do it I've got to do a little something.   My victory was a size large shirt. I know different manufacturers make different sizes, but I don't care, that tag said large and I wore it.   I also walked my way around a marathon, and believe me that was a feat in itself.   On to this new day. Feeeling inspired.

Whoa

Wow is this site woefully inadequate in explaining what all those settings on this blog are. I hope I got them right. I suppose I could open the help section, but like most things, I am too impatient to read instructions. Anyway to the actual blogging now. I don't know if I'll keep this up. It is my first attempt at blogging. I've resisted this before even though I am a writer bu trade. Still I am hopeful that the seriousness of this endeavor will drive me to write about it. I am still in the early stages of getting approval for the lap band operation. I am going to Cedars Sinai by the way. I trust the institution and besides, that is where I have always gone thorughout my various lives. I am still uncertain if I am giong through with this. I mean I am here because I lost the control I used to have over food. In years before I was able to diet down to either my goal weight or in the neighborhood. Why the change? I suppose it is the new level of stress in my life (which I will undoubtedly get to writing about at some point). Anyway I am over 300 pounds now and am just appalled at myself. I mean how did I get this far? It seems to have snuck up on me, despite knowing that I didn't just magically get here. My goal weight? 165. I am practically twice my proper size. I absolutely hate being this big. Not for the embarrassing appearance (although that is a big concern to me), but for the difficulty it imposes on simple tasks, simple moving around. When did just tying shoes become a challenge? And ultimately I am driven by health matters. I have sleep apnea (complex, not just obstructive so it is a problem that might not go away). I have a bad back (the stenosis is genetic however - hence the laminectomy was worsened by the weight but would have existed otherwise). I have high blood pressure. All things that are traditional for the over-weight. No not overweight, the morbidly obese. I like that term because it is uncomfortable to say and I want that discomfort. It will help drive me to action. So here I am waiting to do the next steps, which include a visit with a nutritionist and then a psychiatrist. I will have to admit to some "last meal" consciousness. I do think about the things I won't be able to eat or behaviors I will be giving up and want to indulge in them one last time. Of course I am not because I don't want to shoot up in weight now. I find that even though I am taking in fewer calories now, I am still exhibiting poor habits. Not eating every three hours. Not balancing the protein and fat and carbs. That will be a challenge for me becuase I just want to eat without a great deal of thinking. I do well with a very restricted menu, so as to not be faced with too many choices. One success of the past was a South Beach diet menu. I ate the same thing every day for six months. I liked the menu and was never really unhappy with eating it. I have no idea why I don't just do that again with a greater emphasis on staying the course once I've lost the weight. Inevitably I always stop and cave under the pressure of my world. I am an emotional and stress eater. My thing is volume though and so this is why I have high hopes for the band. Ok I am bored now so first entry over. I plan to be back but we'll see.

I really never thought I would see those sizes again in my lifetime. Clothes really depend on the style. I'm big breasted so I wear 2x shirts and some 18/20 button downs are still tight.   We had a clothes drive at chruch last month. I donated 6 lbs of clothes from just me, along with 6 more bags from the rest of the family. Talk about losing a whole wardrobe! I told hubby today I'm running out of clothes, he just smiles.   Speaking of my hubby, he is sooo supportive. He tells me everyday how hot I'm looking. He even said I was getting too thin. I just laughed at him then I told him that I was only 16 lbs heavier than him, lol!!!!!! Now he's talking about getting in shape for ME!?!?! Wow! For so long, I felt like it was the other way around.   I go to the dr for my 6 month check up. He said he wanted me at 200lbs which I thought was ridiculous. the NUT and RN said I should be at 220. So I have 4 lbs to go in 2 weeks and I'm crossing my fingers!!! My weight loss has slowed down after the first 3 months but I'm okay with that. Its coming off and I do take my measurements so I see results even when the scale doesn't move. And yes, I weight and measure myself every morning.   So I'm 2/3 of the way to my goal. So close I can almost taste it!

THE DECISION DAY

Hello   This is my first post here on the forum. I am here at a friends recommendation. (Another fellow officer who has had the "sleeve" and now lost 95lbs).     Currently I am 6'4" and 320lbs and have tried all sorts of diets and drugs but the weight comes right back. Its nice to be recognized as the BIG GUY in uniform but now its getting to the point of people looking at me differently. I can see that as I have gotten older (now 39) they look at me and under estimate me, and thats not the way its been. Now for my health, family, job and most importantly my pride....today I am calling my primary physician and getting referred to a bariatric surgeon that does the vertical sleeve.   If anyone who reads this knows the name of a good vertical sleeve surgeon in the Indianapolis area please reply. Also looking to get involved in helping others and support groups around the area if anyone knows how to guide me there also.   I will post -- my beginning and journey pictures so please stay tuned -- TODAY IS THE DAY I AM CHANGING MY LIFE!

Days 11,12,and 13 of Pre-Op Diet

Ok so this weekend was crazy. I made some bad choices when it comes to food. We were running everywhere and I lost my train of thought. I am not even going to say what I ate because its to embarassing. I just weight in today and I gained a pound. I am feeling really down right now and I can't even bring myself to talk about it. 2 weeks until surgery I hope I can make my goal.

This band has a mind of it's own!

I have been banded 7 months now. I have only lost 30 pound but Im ok with that for now. I have had several fills and one un-fill. I just dont understand this band. I can't seem to make any sense of it. There are days when I throw up ALL day and other days when I eat perfectly fine and eat larger portions than I should. 2 months ago I got something stuck and went 3 days without eating OR being able to get fluid down. I threw up my own saliva ever 20 minutes. The doc did an un-fill. A few days a week I feel a super-tight restricion and even though I am very careful about chewing and eating slowly....I still get that stuck feeling then end up throwin up for hours and hours on end. It is sooooooo annoying. Nothing seems to help. I know after throwing up so much my stomach gets inflammed and then when I am able to get fluids down I am extremely careful. Does anyone else have a finicky band like this? Does anyone else get stuck episodes frequently? The doc says I am only half full in the band and does not feel like I need more fluid out. Its so hard to believe that there are days I go without eating at all and other days I can eat normally and yet I still dont lose much weight. I am religious about my workouts but when I have a sick day, I dont workout because I simply dont have the enerygy with out the fuel in my body. Sometimes....I wish I never had this band. Other days Im so thankful that I spent the money and have endured all that I have gone through. UGH.
