New here - 12/10 surgery - dying on pre-op liquid diet!

Recommended Posts

Hi, all. My lapband surgery is set for this coming Thursday. I'm on day six of my pre-op liquid diet, which consists of 5-6 skim milk with carnation Breakfast drink daily, along with Propel, Crystal Light and other no-calorie drinks. I'm struggling with this diet.

I made it without a single bite through day 5, but caved this morning. I had one slice of deli turkey, 1/2 banana, and 1/2 no crust Peanut Butter on wheat bread. Not sure how that's going to screw things up, but hopefully not too bad. I hope I can make it the rest of the way without solids.

 It's certainly a MIND game, isn't it!

Looking forward to connecting with the forum community.

Check out the other pre-op diets online. Many allow meat and other Protein besides the Carnation. Some allow Peanut Butter. Don't despair; you're almost there. I had mine last week and feel almost human today. Good luck.

Hello mom6kids, I as well have 6 kids, 5 at home.:w00t: So my pre-op diet was HARD. I had to drink 5 Optifast shakes a day and 1 Protein Bar. Well I still had to cook for my husband and 5 kids. So I got down 3 shakes a day and my Protein bar and I spaced out a slice of cheese here and there and I would have a couple of bites of chicken breast, turkey things like that. I had to loose 15lbs and I lost 22. I did walk a mile every day and do 60 crunches on my balley, but I did it. There were a few other people in my support group that did the same thing. So long story short, you'll be fine. Your'e almost there and it's well worth it. I was banded on the 25th of November and so far so good.

Keep us posted.

Himom6kids. I feel your pain. My surgery is on Dec 21st and I'm doing the two weeks of sugar busters and I'm dying for some sweet tea, bread, SUGAR. I've done good so far, but two weeks is going to be long and there aren't many foods that are sugarless that I really like. Good luck to you.

I am on day 4 of a 2 week liquid diet: 5 shakes a day. I feel awful. I am very tired, have headaches and am a little disoriented. I am very worried about how I will continue to function on my job! Surgery is 12/29. :)

I'm on day 13 of 16 on the Optifast nightmare. (the shakes taste okay, the bars suck, but it doesn't matter because all I want is some REAL FOOD!!!) All I can say is that I feel your pain! Especially since some people are allowed to eat all solid foods. I do admit that I have allowed myself a slice of 2% cheese every day simply because I need to chew on something that actually resembles food, and if I didn't, I know full well, I'd have caved and eaten half a refrigerator by now! I just keep telling myself, 18 more shakes till surgery, 18 more shakes till surgery.....

Moral of the story is, stick with it the best you can. This is tough. On the bright side, it seems like a lot of people drop a ton of weight with the pre-op diet (except me-5 pounds in 13 days is not what I'd call crazy success or anything. I am hoping it picks up once I've got that band in!) so you always have that to look forward to!

Good luck!

I am so lucky because I get to be on the liquid diet for FOUR weeks!!! I am getting banded on 1/18/10. Every time my stomach starts to feel empty/hollow I just have another shake. It's going to be a long month for me. I have been getting headaches everyday around 1:00 from not eating. I keep telling myself it's all going to be worth it in the end and I will be able to have food in February!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
