December Delights 2009

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill 2/9/10. It was only .9cc. I have lost 15 lbs since surgery. A total of 21 since preop. My doc wasn't going to give me a fill at first then I said well I am getting hungry and snacking. I was on liquids for 2 days now I can eat anything. I do pretty good if I go out to eat. I ask for a to go box and put half of my food into it. I know the weight didn't come on over night so it will take time to get it off. I now have 104 pounds to go. I am getting discouraged because I haven't lost any weight in 2 weeks;(

Jem, don't you hate those times? I went 2 weeks, too. Finally showed a change yesterday and today. good luck.

I guess I am a member of the December Delights 2009. I was banded on Dec.22. I am feeling LAP-BAND® hell! I had my first fill this week on Tuesday and am not feeling very restricted yet. I have been up and down a little with my weight and am currently about a pound over my surgery weight.

I am very chat/forum illiterate and have no idea how to post those wonderful weight loss tickers.

I'm feeling discouraged today. When you start reading the forums, it's easy to get lost in some of the problems that can occur.

However, I know that this is just the beginning for me and I do see that there are many many people who have lost significant amounts of weight. I look forward to losing with all of you!

Hey! I figured out the ticker!! Small victories.

I'm with all of you, first fill of 4.4 cc about a month ago, mildly good restriction for about a week, then not so much. I do get full on much smaller portions than pre-surgery but still a whole lot more than I'm supposed to eat so I'm trying to stick to relatively healthy stuff but it's a challenge. We've had a week of cold wet stuff on the ground, tried to get out and walk a couple times but didn't enjoy the freezing cold wet feet (on the plus side I did order a pair a bubble gum pink hiking boots that are Water proof!) so it's just me and the Wii fit this week. I do have trouble with chicken breast and pork roast, I'm sure it's just because it's so dry. Next fill Monday! Wish me luck! We're all doing great

Very interesting article and website. I enjoyed a couple more of her blogs also. I don't know what to say about the new 90 min. rule??????????? And drinking with our meals???????? People will think I'm crazy!!!! We will see.... What did you think? Did anyone Google this guy (the doctor). I think I will and see what it turns up...but it got me interested...to be continued... What did you all think of this article? It's bizarre!!!:):w00t::biggrin:

Agree. Banded Girl is great - smart as can be, funny, supportive and informative. And just to be clear - it's a 90 second rule (not minute). I know that's what you meant. Ya, I don't know how it could hurt, it just seems like it would be a really hard thing to do 'in practice'. I have a hard enough time with small bites and not drinking with meals! I will definitely give it a try whenever I can. Ha! I'll try anything so long as it doesn't involve sweating! :wink2:

I did google him (the doctor) and read his bio. I was impressed by his credentials, publications, research involvement, etc.

I go back to my doctor on Wednesday... am hoping for a second fill (weight loss has stopped). Cross your fingers for me.

How is everyone doing with restriction? So far I have 7ccs in my 11cc band. I felt restriction for a few days after the second fill. Now I will feel full and within an hour I am feeling hungry again. I think they only thing that has been keeping me losing weight is the fact that I go to the gym six days a week and I work out any where from a hour to a hour and a half.

I feel great that I am to my first goal. I wanted to get to that before my 30th and I accomplished that because my bday is on Wed.

Tracy, You are doing great! 55lbs. lost...WOW! To answer your question: I had my second fill one week ago. I'm now at 5ccs in a 10 band. I have some restriction. Things are differnet now when I eat. The scale is moving again. I get my third fill in one week. I'm going to ask for another cc. Totalling 6 in a 10 band. My weight stalled during "Bandster Hell" but I didn't gain! :) Yeah for me. But it seemed like forever until that second fill. I had my first "stuck" episode the day after my last fill. I moved to real food too soon. I got stuck on a brussell sprout not chewed properly and probably too big a bite. Since then I have been more careful. I use toddler size utensils and chew, chew, chew. That's my update. Can't wait to hear from the rest of you...Best wishes to all....

Hi All,

I FINALLY got my first fill today. Surgery was on 12/17/09 and my doc went out of town..now only 1 cc and I feel hungrier than ever. What is up with that? I was fighting off hunger pains before and I was really hoping this would help me. I am supposed to be on liquids only for 2 days followed by a day of mushies before going on to regular food. I am starving. My kids wanted chili mac today and after making it, I ate a little bit of the chili without the mac. Nothing happened! I hate feeling hungry! It is such a bummer . Now my doc is saying another 6 weeks til my 2nd fill. I don't think that I can make it that long. I have lost 20 lbs since surgery-totalling 28lbs since starting this journey. I really would like to see things moving along. I don't even know what size band I have since I forgot to ask my doc at my appointment. Please somebody...tell me this is only temporary:crying:

Wait a week and call your doctor. Six weeks is too long!!! I have a fill every two weeks and have had two total. I now have some restriction and am enjoying this!!! My band is working for you me. But I continue to make good food choices and portion things out. We haven't heard from you in a while. Glad to hear you're all healed. This period "Bandster Hell" is exactly that...Hell!!! Call your doctor in a week's time and tell him that you are hungry and going to end up gaining. Take care....

I can't believe they are making you wait 6 weeks. That seems crazy and then to only give you 1cc. I would defintely call your doctor!

illuminationlady = thank you. I have been working really hard at dropping the weight. I had my wisdom teeth taken out during my period of hell, so that helped a lot with not gaining any weight back.

You are always such an inspiration to everyone. I will definitely be calling my doctor back next week. I did not go through this for nothing.

How are my partners in crime this fine morning?! I'm in good spirits because I go to my doctor's office today to see 'if' I need another fill. It's been almost 5 weeks... if I let myself, I could eat an entire pizza... and I'm up 2 pounds from my lowest weight. Is there a shortage on saline that I don't know about? Not sure why these doctors are so stingy with the fills.

55 pounds is INSANE!... You should be really proud of yourself, Tracy. WE ARE. :( And IL, you are a teacher and a motivator to us all. You have all my respect and appreciation.

Have a great day guys!

Well, I've gained 5lbs this week. It is so frustrating that I have to wait 2 more weeks (4 total)before my second fill. I even called the Dr. and told them I was gaining and asked if I could get a fill sooner ....no luck.

I have 3cc's in my band. I hope they'll be a little less stingy next time.

Frustrated!!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
