Quandry.. for air travel.. what to eat

Recommended Posts

I leave Monday for a coast to coast non stop flight. In the past I would just grab something at the airport and take on board.

Now, I want to be in control with what I eat on the flight. So I visited the TSA website and am in a quandry as to what I can bring as a good source of Protein to hold me over for 6 hours. No liquids, so Protein Drinks are out.. I guess I could take a Protein Bar (not my fav).. cheese sticks, carrot sticks... I really haven't thought about this and was wondering..

Do you have any good ideas..

I got a shaker bottle from GNC. I put my Protein Powder in it, but didn't add liquid. After I was past the security checkpoint, I went to one of the bars and they added Water. shake, add ice, and good to go!

I have been able to buy muscle milk at the gift shop. This is after the security check so it is ok to bring on board the airplane.

The other thing I like to do is pack some turkey lunch meat and a slice of cheese in a cold pack container.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

I take an Oh Yeah Protein wafer bar. They are the best I've found, it's almost like eating a candy bar. While flying this week, I took some Babybel cheese. If I'd had some sliced turkey I would have taken that as well. You can get some protein chips or pretzels to take along if you want crunchy. If all else fails, just take your protein powder and add Water or milk once you get past security or in-flight.

I will be flying in January across country.. I know we can't take liquids unless they are bought after the check point, but what about Snacks like cheese? ? Can you take those through security?

I was able to take cheese through without any problems. I took individually packaged cheeses and I did put it in my clear bag with my gels and liquids but I'm not sure that it was necessary. If you want to make sure, you can always just call the airline you will be flying with and ask.

Hey y'all, I fly all the time, I'm a flight attendant!! I try to pack all my food as much as I can so I don't get stuck eating the 'evil' and over priced airport food. I always have sliced turkey and cheese with me, you should be able to bring the bag of tuna through security since it doesn't have the Water in it, and you can always find some mustard or mayo to mix with it at one of the fast food places in the airport. Bananas are great to take with me. I also pre measure my protien powder into little snack ziplocks and just put that into a half of a bottle of Water after drinking the first half. Also I usually have cheerios with me for Breakfast or oatmeal and you can always ask the flight attendant for milk or hot water, or buy it in the terminal.

I have heard from a few people to not eat or drink while on the plane since the air pressure will affect your band, but I haven't been filled yet, so I've been able to eat and drink small amounts while in the air. I don't know what I'm going to do if the band does expand while in the air and I'm not able to eat on my long flights, I'm going to be starving!!

Hope this helps some.

someone in my support group mentioned taking a thin slice of ham and placing a thin slice of LF cheese in it and rolling it up and then wrapping it in saran wrap. they slice it into small pinwheels.

they use this specifically for air travel. they said they freeze it the night before and by the time the peanuts are being passed out inflight it has defrosted and is a nice filling snack.< /p>

i am going to do it with turkey next week when i fly.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
