Happy, you are doing sooo great! What time is your appointment with Jill tomorrow? Maybe we can meet if our schedules mesh? 8 pounds is awesome! Too bad we do not live closer, we could do the gym together!

No kidding it would be great to do the gym with someone on the same page!!!!! I have a 1 pm appt with Jill.... are you going in tomorrow?

I could meet up with you before appt time, but after the appt I have to "fly" home since my kids have early release day and my friend is picking them up at school in order for me to make this appt.

Oh Wow! Its been a long time since I posted. I was curious about everyone's progress. I am doing well. Down 55lbs Woo Hoo! Getting my hour glass shape back, YAY!!! I'm in desperate need of a fill though. Because of all the snow storms in NYC, my appts kept getting rescheduled so I haven't had a fill in a long time. Can't wait to reach my sweet spot. I have feeling this next fill will be it. Right now I'm at 7cc's and I have a 14cc band. I've only gotten stuck 3 times and it was because I was talking on the phone while eating (don't recommend it). I have had hardly any discomfort in recent months and I continue to walk for exercise but I'm ready to step it up a notch so I can tighten up ALL THIS GOODNESS!! Hahahaha! Hope everyone is doing well. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Whoo Hooo Mello, great job! Funny how you get to a place where you are ready to step it up to the next level. That is where I am too.

I started massage tech class this week and Tai Chi is an essential part . Who would have thought you could get hot and sweaty from 20 min of a slow moving martial art! So cool! I am also hungrier on the days I have school, truely hungry. I need an extra small meal.

My band is getting looser too .. I am going to try to manage it since I am taking this class and contemplating the gym... If I faulter then I will rush in for my fill cuz I don't want steps back. I have done so much to get to this point!

So, I hit my 4 month mark yesterday. And i was at 39.6 pounds lost :wink2: And I've gone from a tight 26/loose 28 too a tight 20(depending on the brand).which I wore today, and I was happy to not be pulling up my pants every 10 secs, lol. Averages out to 10lbs a month which I am perfectly happy with. Now if I can keep losing at this rate I will be very ready for my trip to Hawaii at the begining of june.

Hello Ladies! My four month anniversary is the 23rd of March and as of this morning I am down 62 lbs. This has been such a learning process. I have met so many wonderful people from this website it has been incredible. I wouldn't trade my band for anything. I currently have 6cc's in my 10cc band. I am self pay and see my doctor monthly and will for the first year (abuse him were his words...I think he was even more upset than I was that the insurance didn't pay).

I hope everyone has an awesome day!!

finallyncontrol,

You have done great 62 pounds since nov 23. Ihad my surgery on the same day and I have only lost 38 pounds. I'm hoping to lose the other two pounds by the 23 that would equal 10 pounds a month since surgery. I did have some medical probems along the way two surgerys so i'm happy with my progress. What are some things you have done to lose the weight. How much are you eating maybe examples o f a dayss food. I have 5 cc in my band. I think its good to here what others are doing.

skinnygirl,

sorry for the delayed response...I agree that we all should share all the do's and the don'ts!!! I have had 3 fills to get to the 5 cc's..I have great restriction now. I see my doctor every month regardless if I need to or not..which I like!

I will start with the bad..I use pineapple juice if I get stuck..which has only happened 4 times. The pineapple juice works wonderfully..relief within minutes!!

Exercise...I walk and I walk daily..that and chase my 2 year old son around. Once the weather gets a little warmer I will swim. My doctor pushes walking and I agree with him. I am starting to carry hand weights but that is it. I do like to ride bicycles but my husband has a bad knee so we don't do that as often as I would like.

Diet..I am not a morning eater (just how I was raised) so Monday-Friday..protein shake--Myoplex Lite 20gr protein...Sat & Sun omelet (I have more time to make it). lunch tuna or chicken salad either made with mayo or cottage cheese, cheese, egg & relish with a couple of crackers or 2 pieces of cheese rolled up in deli meat or salad. For Snacks I eat Chobani yogurt or SF pudding.< /p>

Now for dinner...the one thing that as soon as got off of mushies after surgery I committed to myself and my family was this was a lifetime committment not a diet. I prepare dinner for all of us quite similar to before being banded only I eat a much smaller portion. I also may make it a little more healthier. I can eat pretty much anything..I haven't tried steak..but..last night we had BBQ Chicken, tator tots, green Beans. I had..2 oz of chkn, 1/4 cup of green beens and 3 tator tots and was full. My family was thrilled and they were able to put on more BBQ Sauce if they wanted..mine had the flavor on it. I also have found some different recipes that we have tried..we vote on them..some we make again..others we don't.

I hope this helps!! If you ever want to talk you can reach me at dsmith16@tampabay.rr.com

Biotin and a liver cleanse that is what comes to mind when you say that.... Liver is responsible for more than 400 conditions in the body... keep it clean and better all around health... including hair!

Deb - could be lack of protein! I know on Survivor, where Protein is a premium and people are losing weight like crazy, their hair begins to fall out. Try upping your protein intake :)

I'm 2 days away from 4 months out and I'm down 46 pounds. That is insane! So much weight lost... it's getting easier to eat the right things and make good food choices. Even though I want to take another bite because it's tasty, I've learned that if I do...it causes pain.

I've been running lately, which is nice. I'm not very fast and I can't go for very long, but slow and steady wins the race.

Congrats on your weight loss. I'm not sure what to do about the Hair loss. Is your protien high enough? I know sometimes people lose hair even when they are eating tons of protien though. So far (knock on wood) I haven't had that problem, at least no more hair loss than normal. Keep up the good work!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
