Day 2 after surgery.

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Tuesday-oct 27th and all the incisions are healing well. My doctor found an esophageal hernia while he was in there and repaired it. Has anyone else experienced this? Also my stomach is still very bloated out almost like I am 6 months pregnant. I keep taking walks every 2-4 hours hoping to get rid of the bloat but I also feel like a pressure where my stomach pouch is. Is this normal? Is it just because I am swollen? Does this feeling of pressure go away? and how long until it does? I slept in the recliner last night so I could have my head somewhat above my feet. Can the hernia come back? I am being very careful with the liquids. I don't switch to puree'd foods until tomorrow. I am having a hard time forcing myself to get the liquids in. Is this normal? I don't want to get sick from being dehydrated so I am forcing the Water and Jello and some broth down. Any suggestions?

I had my banding on 10-23-2009 and I had the bloating and the pressure. If they went in laproscopic, then the pressure you are feeling is probably gas. They use CO2 to fill your stomach up to see your organs better. I have lived on Gas-X thin strips. They really helped me a lot and so does drinking Water. Hope this information helps you.

I also had a severe hiatal hernia that my doc had to repair before he did my lapband procedure. I am a week postop and still feeling pain, especially in my rib cage area at night. I am not the least bit hungry either and feel swollen as well. I am only eating 1/2 cup of Soup at lunch and maybe a bottle Water in the morning and evening. Other than that I am totally stuffed. Everyone says its probably because my stomach is swollen and healing. It will get better day by day. I had surgery on Thursday and stayed overnight in the hospital and went back to work on Tuesday. Although when I do come home I am very tired and in bed by 730. I let my husband take care of the kids in the evening...

Good luck to you it will get better

I had my surgery on 10/21. I stayed in hospital over night. They repaired a hiatal hernia as well. This is the first day that the gas seems to be at a minimum. still here but much less. I did get more food in today as well. sill on full liquid diet so this is a drag I found that moving around and walking helped the best with the gas pains. Hang in there is does get better

Hello All,

I had my surgery on 10/20. I am now 9 days post-op. Unfortunately, the pain, bloatedness and gas does not go away that quickly. I still have gas and the pain does get better as the days go by. I also have pretty intense port pain and swelling. I am told this too will take a while to heal and go down. I had a hiatal hernia repaired too. I has no idea that I had a hernia. I was told my many that this is ver common. My sergeon said it is very possible that I never would have known it was there. The only thing it would have caused was occasional indigestion/gas. Which I did have from time to time.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear. Sorry, but think of the positive....We are losing weight! In the end, it will all be worth it. Sooner than we think.

At 9 days post-op, I am happy to say that I am 9lbs down!!!!!

I had my surgery on the 27th also. The pain is getting better each day, but the pain at the port is still pretty intense if I move the wrong way. I am drinking a Protein Shake made with skim milk in the morning. That gives me 37 grams of Protein, but the rest of the day I have a hard time getting in the rest of my protein requirements and do not feel like eating much. I am drinking Water all day long. I think it is very important that you keep that up since you don't want to get dehydrated. I am told by the bandster veterans that this will all get better. We just have to hang in there. Better losing days are ahead...

I had my surgery on 10/23. I am still a tiny bit bloated but most of it is going away. I do have port pain still and I can not lie on my left side in bed yet. I am still on liquids and drink Water, chicken brother or Crystal light all day long. I also had a hiatal hernia that the doctor repaired when I had my surgery. I have my post op visit on Monday and will then switch to soft foods. I am not hungry unless I don't drink my Protein Drinks at the same time very day. I made it a habit to try and have them at the same time. I don't have the gas pains anymore but they were pretty painful the first 4-5 days after surgery. I try and walk everyday. I'm always moving around but I try and do one longer walk. Like today I walked a mile. Tomorrow I will try for 2 miles.

Things will get better so I am told by the veterans. You just have to be patient. This time next year you will look back and it will all be water under the bridge.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
