I had my first coffee three weeks after surgery... I think I was supposed to wait a month but I couldn't do it any longer... I will tell you that it made me fill hungry within minutes of drinking it and continues to do so now three months later... So I just no that if I drink it i will have that hungry feeling with full blown growling and have to deal with it if I want to drink it... AND I DO!

I think one week after surg I started drinking coffee again. I have also been drinking it right along, but I have recently started giving it up and I actually feel so much better!

I would agree with lady lap band...when I don't drink it I do feel better... my digestive tract just seems to work better and less gas and stomach aches, not bad ones just that not right feeling... so maybe it is harder on us now that we are banded because pre-band it didn't make any difference in how I felt with or with out it... Just another thing the band is helping out with on the train to healthy land!

I guess i have a different opinion then everyone else.. i actually think coffee helps with my hunger. it fills me up and i stay full for a longer period of time. it also is like my lil treat in the morning. i love coffee and its easy to make it very low in calories.. equal and a lil milk.. i think i waited about a month to start drinking it again and i drink it usually everyday.. just one cup tho!

The day of my surgery while laying in the hospital bed afterwards was the day i drank coffee. It was and is the thing that tastes the best to me. It didnt hurt me at all. I drink a lot less now, maybe a cup throughout the whole day but it is loaded with cream which is my favorite part. Hasnt hurt me a bit, hasnt slowed anything down. I add it to my daily calorie intake but i think its well worth it. It is less calories to drink coffee with cream than snack on other junk and it keeps you feeling full and not so cranky if your an addict like me.

My doctor allowed me to drink it right away. I must say though, for some reason it doesn't taste as good.

Depends on what your doc wants you to do. Does he ask his patients to wait a certain amount of time?

My doc did not have a restriction on coffee. I drink it every day. 16oz black coffee, 1 pck Swiss Miss FF (25 cal) and 2 tbls SF Torini Syrup. I find it holds off hunger and is VERY satisfying.

I agree with MEAGAN. It fill me up and kills any hunger if I have any. I drink decaffenated. My Dr had no restrictions either.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
