December Bandsters 2009

Recommended Posts

Alli try your best to ignore them it's worth it!!!! I was banded Thursday afternoon. I am having some gas discomfort and soreness of my throat and stomach but I feel 90% better. I remember on day 10 of pre-op diet my son came through the door crunching on these doritos. I heard that crunch all the way in my bedroom which is all the way in the back of the house!!

Wow, great to hear from everyone. Only a few more weeks of December bandsters left!! I'm up in Maryland, however my surgery is in NC. I'm stuck in this lovely blizzard up here and am now dealing with the stress of forcing myself to drink my liquids on this diet (I'm so hungry I'm not even hungry anymore) and wondering if I'll make it out and down to Raleigh for my surgery!!! :smile2:

Anyone else snowed in and living off of Protein enriched hot cocoa?!?

Wow every doc is different on the post-op diets from what I am reading. And there are huge differences too! I wonder why that is? Mine: days 1,2 liquids including Protein Shakes, 3,4 soft and 5 advance as tolerated. The 4 week liquids or 4 week pureed sound punishing.

I know right! My doc's protocol is 4 weeks clear liquid post op and then 2 to 3 weeks mushies. He's pretty hard core. Oh and no dairy...ever. Not even soy milk or almond milk nothing. He believes that once you start with that it's a slippery slope to a milkshake. LOL No seriously, he is adamit about the dairy. Oy.

So basically I'll be on Clear Liquids for 6 weeks. Oh help me, what did I sign up for?

I almost had a weak moment tonight. See, I've been pretty much a shut in these past 2 weeks on clear liquid diet because it's so hard to be out and about and be starving; 1) all the resteraunts/food places and 2) if I"m caught somewhere for a long time, what the heck am I supposed to eat. It's not like 7-11's have shakes in a cooler like Red Bull. But tonight we went to a neighboring town (30 mins drive) to shop at a specific store. Well this store was in the same mini mall as a pizza place, mexican rest, & chinese and the parking lot had burger king, dairy queen. I"m starving and I was this --- close to saying, just one meal..one meal. But instead I tossed the family in the car and said "lets go, NOW!" and raced home. I'm now sucking on a SF popsicle. Ahhhhh...nectar of the gods.:smile2:

i know! doesn't 4 weeks seem crazy? This guy is so intense. I haven't cheated yet. I genuinely don't think I will. My surgery is 2 days after yours with the same doc, so you HAVE to tell me how it goes. I have been staying in to avoid temptation but tonight I am going to see my brother in law's band and everyone will be drinking but me!

We are in the home stretch, I can't believe how far we have come!

Good luck tonight!! Gosh that's got to be hard! Take gum and just chew chew chew! LOL Do what ever works.

Yeah, Dr. Oh is hard core! He is like...I don't even have words for him. LOL Anyone who makes people cry on a regular basis is just hard core. LOL I promise to let you know how it goes. That's IF I have the surgery. Dr. Oh wants me to do a "weigh in" on monday to see if I've lost enough. I hope I can give him 20 so he'll do the surgery. We'll see. Then the surgery is tuesday. I'm so excited to go on with it!! Let's do this. I can't take just liquid diet anymore....I'm dying here. :smile2:

Have fun tonight and get you mind off stuff!:wink2:

Every doctor is different but there is a set lapband diet, if you're even in doubt go off of that. It should be in all of your materials. Lapband is the same regardless of surgeon. The process and protocols behind it are the same.

Pre-op diet is different from post op. That's based off your personal health issues and you BMI.

I cheated on my pre-op twice had my surgery yesterday. My surgery weight was 299.7 so even with the cheating I still lost 16lbs. Don't stress over it. Just make sure your last 3 days you're on it so your body is clean.

I was banded yesterday.Arrived at the hospital at 9 am, had my surgery at about 1:30 pm Left hospital at 7:30 pm.

I had to stay in recovery a little longer bacause they kept telling me I was not breathing well.

When I woke up it wasnt too bad. Mostly felt soreness at the port site.

Could not sleep very well last night. My back was bothering a little. I wanted soooooooo much to sleep on my stomach. Really bad sore throat. Going to the bathroom a lot.

Oh.....and still hungry! Ay, ay, ay!!!!!!

lol, I know what you mean! Last weekend I went to get my hair braided and knew I would be in the chair for at least 6 hours. I could have taken some shakes with me, but who wants to drink luke warm protien shakes...ugh! So, I drank one before I went in and stuffed a water bottle and a protien bar in my purse. That got me through the 6 hours..wasn't supposed to have the protien bar, and the luke warm Water wasn't so refreshing, but that was better than falling to the Doritos everyone else was munching on at the shop!

BE STRONG GIRL...YOU CAN DO IT!!! I also started my liquid diet on Tuesday & it has been rough. I thought I was doing better today until I just watched my husband & son eat Monical's pizza. Keeping the end goal in mind is the only thing keeping me on track right now. I also keep telling myself the only way to avoid food completely would be to lock myself in a room...which crossed my mind more than a few times, but not logical. lol We can do this together!!! Is your surgery on Dec 29th?

He finally apologized...said that he thought since I was joking about not eating, he could joke about it too. I was like, no, that like me making fun of myself for being fat..that don't mean you can make fat jokes about me too!

I have to admit, I've given in to eating during my liquid diet, mostly during the 1st week, not anything heavy, just a nibble of something in the evening. It's sooo hard coming home from work and the house smelling of dinner and the family chowing down! I only flipped out once over some buffalo chicken pizza...I ate a slice...at least it was thin crust...but I've been punishing myself with a hardcore workout or two everyday since. So, I'm still on track losing a pound or more a day!

Surgery is Tuesday! I'm soooo excited! It's going to come quickly. Today I will be cleaning and getting packed and where heading to Chicago tomorrow to drop the boy at his granny's then over to Downer's Grove. I have to get my heparing shots from the hospital over there and then maybe we'll do a little shopping or something. Can't wait!

Good luck all y'all being banded through the end of the month and congrats to those already banded! YaY!!!!

 OMG I 'm going into the 5th day of my pre-op liquid diet and I have this headache that just will not go away! I guess im having sugar withdrawls or something but I'm soooooo ready for it to be gone.

I thought it could also be from the lack of caffeine! I'm dying for a cup of coffee. I''ll live, though. I'm not in real pain, the shoulder is annoying but manageable, and the weird feeling in the top of my stomach I suppose means I haven't been sipping my liquids slowly enough. I'm working on that today! We've had more than 20 inches of snow, which is pretty exciting. Hope everyone is feeling well!

Hi MelissaO,

I tried Chike high Protein Shakes which were very good. You can get 5 packs of different flavors for FREE! All you pay is $6.95 S&H so not totally free. They were good.

Good luck to all!!

What is the website for the free shakes? I'd love to find them. Thanks for the tip.

I was banded on Dec 7. After a week I felt great, went back to work and slipped on some Water and broke a bone in my knee. What a bummer. More surgery this week. :-(

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
