Alcohol choices

Recommended Posts

Hi there! I was wondering what you all decide to drink when you have an adult beverage. I miss my beer to be honest! So, I need to find something else (besides wine) that I can drink when I feel the need to have a drink. Now, I know I can't be drinking like I use to but my birthday is coming up this weekend and I'd like to have a few drinks. I know I could have like vodka w/ a fruit juice but that's too many wasted calorie with the juice. It's hard not being able to mix alcohol with diet soda. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I too was a beer drinker, and at times miss it so much!!! When I do have a drink I now drink dirty martinis, they are so good!!!! I can't drink too much, because of my restriction but with these you don't really need much. One or two drinks and you will be feeling real nice.

I keep the little packets of Crystal Lite (I like the generic brands also and cheaper) in my purse and when I feel like having a drink I just order a tall Grey Goose Vodka and Water. Mix my little drink and I am good to go!

I've always loved a good single barrel rum, which you should never, ever mix because it's just too darned good to ruin that way. I also will mix rum with Diet Coke. The rum kills about 90% of the carbonation in the first couple of minutes. It hasn't caused me any gas problems, at least.

Scotch on the rocks with a twist is good for me, too (or a good single malt straight). BUT not everybody actually likes the taste of liquor; they actually like the taste of the mixers. So, scotch might not be an acceptable choice for a lot of people.

I went away to atlantic city this weekend i drank diet coke and cherry vodka. The alcohol does kill most of the carbonation. Rule of thumb is that whatever proof it is is how many calories it has so 80 proof vodka has 80 calories. So my drinks were only 80 calories. I asked my doctor if i could have diet soda and he told me yes as long as it doesn't brother me. Now i can't drink soda straight up because i get some pain in my chest but with the alcohol no problem. Now i don't drink all the time maybe once or twice a month and when i do i just cut back on my calories for the day so i can have a drink or two.

3 drinks with diet coke and vodka = 240

3 drinks with juice and vodka =600

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

I don't like sweet drinks so that limits my choices somewhat. I used to LOVE beer.

Since banding I discovered I love Patron'. Yummy! So my drink of choice is either Patron' straight, or in a margaritta.

I also like Mikearitas. These are made by the people who make Mike's Hard Lemonade. It is the only one that isn't carbonated and it packs quite a punch! They can be hard to find though. Just ask any store that carries Mike's to get hte Mikearitas and they will. YUMMY!!! And easily portable, great for cookouts and BYOB parties.

I still drink beer. Beck's Light in only 60-ish calories per bottle. Guinness draught is about 120, less than most beers. I also enjoy a glass (or bottle!) of wine now and then.

They didn't warn you that drinking beer can cause the band to slip?

I haven't had a full beer in about two years now. I still miss it. Especially in the summer. I can handle a sip or two but that's about it. More than that and I'm in PAIN. I drink white wine, but you're right. It gets old. When I do have a cocktail I have a couple of favorites. I like vokda and cranberry juice. BUT I don't buy the Ocean Spray "cocktail". It's loaded with sugar. I get the 100% juice from the health food store. No sugar added. It's tart and refreshing. I also make my mojitos home made. Fresh mint, lime, club soda or Water, white rum, splash of triple sec and an artificial sweetner (splenda). AWESOME!!!

No, and I don't believe that it's true in any case.

I hate how every doctor is different. My doc swears that if I drink beer I will end up causing my band to slip... man I could use a nice cold beer!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
