Whew! The tumor in my stomach is nothing to worry about the Dr said. I got my surgical clearance for Monday's surgery late this afternoon! Talk about a close one! I can't believe I'm getting banded Monday! And not a moment too soon. This pre-op diet has me feeling lightheaded and faint. I get dizzy real easily. They said my blood work showed my Potassium was low. I thought, geesh! Everything should be low since I've got nothing in me but Protein and ice cubes. Good luck to all of the other October Bandsters! You're all in my thoughts.

I've been at this liquid diet since the 5th. I've cried and had my moments, believe me. All I can say is that you WILL do it. You just reach a point where you're not starving all the time, at least I did. And this is something you've worked hard for and thought about seriously I'm sure and deep down I know you will find the strength. We're all behind you for those times when you think you can't make it. We'll all get there together! Please don't despair.

I'm on the other side of the band now! Surgery yesterday, 10/15. Everything went well. They have you up and walking laps around the nurses station (20 laps = 1 mile), and it helps with the gas. I'm doing okay. I have pain in my neck - soreness from when they hang your head back off the table to insert the breatheing tube. and my throat is sore from the tube as well.

I'm learning how to sip my Water, because swallowing like I used to causes too much air in. so it's a learning process.

Just wanted to check in and wish all of you upcoming bandees, good luck!!

Shar Pei and Nooshie, Congrats. You`re on the other side now. Already on the looser`s bench.

NJ and akame, persevere with the liquid diets, although I feel like a fraud saying that since I did not have to go through that. My surgeon only requires 2 weeks low fat diet but I `ve done many a liquid diets so I know how difficult it is. The unfortunate aspect is that just as you get into ketosis (it gets easier then), you will have to come out again via the surgery. Come on, you can do it!!!

akame, shares same op day with you.

Deekel, good to hear tumor was nothing and op going ahead on Monday. Good luck to all of us yet to be banded.

I finally have a surgery date Oct 29th... I am so excited... I to have a hernia... not sure if I am going to have it repaired when I have my band inserted. I keep forgetting to ask if that is at all possible. I will have to remember to ask at my preop on monday. I wonder if its gonna be another set of approvals and all that good stuff...

So now I have to wait for my instructions on the pre op level.

Congrats to all that have made it this far.

We are all here for you!!!

First night home. By evening my neck was really sore. They told me that they hang the head off the operating table to facilitate the intubation.....the way it feels is that all the muscles of the neck are strained. It's a little less sore this morning though, and I got up to take a walk around the neighborhood.

learning to sip is something new. the larger the swallow, the more pain as it goes down...so tiny baby sips.

I have a caffeine withdrawal headache though. The doctor says Decaf only as the caffeine would produce too much acid.

all complaints aside, I'm doing fine. Just new adjustments.

KCG! Thanks! But you day is soon! I had no preop diet ...but I really was carefull not to gain any weight. I am really feeling good!

So folks out there...don't be nervous...it is really not painful or horrible....very doable occassional gas pains. In fact, I only took one pain pill since my surgery.

Good luck everyone!

Hello all , I am getting nervous, but I am excited. My surgery date is 10/21 , so I am in the count down mode. I didn't have to do the pre liquid diet, I just have to do all liquids the day before surgery. However I started to modify my eating pattern about a week ago...eat applesauce yogart, plenty of crystal light, and Jello. I am so ready for this life change procedure. I know that there is a lot that I must do on my part in order to make this surgery successful and I am willing to do all that's neccessary so that I can be healthier. So do all Oct banders best wishes.

Hi all-

Well I'm almost a week and a half out from surgery. I spent one night in the hospital. It took me until about day 8 to really turn the corner on feeling better. I'm still having quite a bit of pain at the port site. As it turns out, my hiatal hernia was larger than what they expected so there was more to my surgery to repair it. I guess about 20% of my stomach was poked through the hole.

I'm still on full liquids, including creamed soup(run through the Magic Bullet). I'm going to be moved to Mushies on Monday (so happy). I'm still not getting enough Water in but I had that problem before. I went through a lot of emotions during the days after my surgery. I definitely wondered if I did they right thing. It seems like it will be forever until I feel like things are normal again but I hope that it will be soon. I've taken 2 weeks off work and I'm expecting to return to work on Thursday after my follow-up on Wednesday. I'm definitely looking forward to getting back to a routine but I know it's going to be a while until I feel like my normal self. It does feel great just getting the weight off that I have. I am proud of all the discipline I have had but I'll admit a lot of it is out of fear so I hope I can keep up the good work when i know what I can safely have.

Hope everyone is doing well and for those about to get banded, good luck. Hope you have very little pain.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
