October 2009 Surgery Date?

Recommended Posts

Day 7 post op.......gas pain in my chest and shoulder is unbearable, but I'm able to walk a lot more now.

Chellz423: How are you feeling now? Did the pain subside?

I'm sorry you're hurting. What have you been doing to deal with the pain? Are you walking a lot, etc?

I hope it's gone by now. Let us know.

gurlfriend let me tell you this pre-op diet is for the birds! Thank God I only have one full day left! Hang in there...the closer it gets the easier it gets I think. Before I felt I had some "wiggle" room b/c surgery was x amount of days away...but when it got within a week I was like "man I better do it to it or I will be in trouble!" Most of this Protein crap is so bad I would rather lick boots! Have you found any that you like?

I had my surgery October 8th. A few snafu's getting there but it's all good now. Very little of the gas pain the second day, none today. Nurse said the gas x wont work for gas pains from surgery b/cause the gas is in the tissues and not the intestines. Heating pad on my back still feels wonderful! Havnt taken pain med since Sunday. Soreness is mostly gone. Dr has me on Clear Liquids for a week & I'm finding "variety" is most difficult. Dr gave me a $25 gift card for GNC which I thought was a nice treat :o

okiegirl, I'm on day 12 of the liquids...i'm getting tired of it...then tomorrow need to switch to Clear Liquids (it's been Protein shakes and pureed soup/yogurt for 12 days)...in prep for Thursday's surgery.

About the Protein Shakes. I like the Premier Protein shakes from costco. Learned about it through our support group at St. Joseph's hospital. They are 160 calories, premixed (so convenience to keep with you, 30 grms of Protein and only 1 carb. And...they actually taste okay.

Timmmers,

Thankyou for your detailed post op. I'm getting banded on the 29th and getting all this info is really making me relax abit. Did you ever get it figured out about the pain in your left rib cage? I'm pver here in Germany and the Surgent doesn't require a pre diet but I know its important after all the readings I have read. Can anyone share with me what the pre diet constist of I do realize that they might differ but if you all can share I would really appreiate it. Thanks

Nooshie,

So you are getting so close now and day 12 of pre-diet I realize from your post that its Protein Shake and soft food like yogurt ect. Can you tell me how long on that and than you said clear liquids can you elaborate on what is allowed during that phase and how long and how many days prior to surgery did you have to start. I'm living in Germany and my doctor doesn't use a pre diet but I will do it. So any info would be great.

Thanks Tina

Hi Tina, Sure, I'll share.

Basically, two weeks prior to surgery, they have us start on this "liquid diet". It's not terrible, just boring:

You have to keep your calories to under 1,000 a day, and consume 70 grams of Protein.< /p>

So you can have Protein Shake (two a day @ 30 grms each/160 cal)

pureed, low fat Soup, 1 c

fatfree yogurt...a brand called light and fit (which has 80 calories)

clear fruit juices (no pulp)

V-8 (tomato/vegetable juice)

sugar free popsicles (ice pops), pudding and Jello

So my day is like this:

7:30: yogurt

10:00 a.m. protein

12:00 Soup

2:00 p.m. sf pudding or Jello

4:00 p.m. Protein Shake

dinner: soup

snack: popsicle

Then, 2 days prior to surgery, they want us to do clear liquids.

so: broth, clear juice, sugar free popsicles/jello, diet ginger ale or 7 up.

Lots of Water for both diets.

Hope that helps. I think it's been good because it kind of gets you disciplined for what's to come. does that make sense?

Good luck to you!

too excited, when is your surgery date? Atleast the procedure is over and you can get pass that. Looks like we were about the same BMI I'm 36 and currently weighing 220 lbs. I was about 230 a few weeks ago, I have been on Victoza for my diabetes and I think that has helped and my walking, but I will be starting the pre deit next week. So I just saw that you have 8 more days so I guess that puts it on the 20th October so good luck and keep us posted.

My Doctors office scheduled me for October 30th. They sent in the paperwork to my Insurance company about a week ago. They told me not too worry, I qualify and they never really have problems with BCBS of MA for approval...but I am still anxious for that phone call or letter saying I have been approved. Once the letter or phone call comes then I will truly believe this is going to happen. I have a pre-operative doctors appointment this Friday. Then I'll start my two week liquid diet.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
