I think that if i have that 'food' i will open a can of worms and not support my new good habits. Its like smoking - you need to be cold turkey.

I totally agree, cold turkey is the way for me now too. It would be too easy to fall back into old habits.

we need to remember it takes 6 weeks to build a new habit.

Hey I rode a horse today for 10 mins only posting trot (ie. not as much abs as sitting trot). Mine is still out of commission and this guy too is being rehabbed but we can all recover together.

OMG, my first fill will not be until nov.7th, its my own fault, because I will be out of town for 3 wks starting next friday. It's going to be a very challenging 3 wks, NO fill, having to eat my meals out instead of controlled at home and fighting my old lifestyle way of thinking (that you have to eat to have a good time on vacation). I have made a promise to myself to find some place to walk each morning and to stay on my low carbs during that time. It's going to be a struggle, put I refuse to give up any of my hard earned 20 lbs

You go Dee! You can do it.

hi, i was banded o set 22. I just found this group and its nice to read about people that are at the same stages as me. I have lost 27 lbs since first doc visit 6 months ago mostly since pre op diet two weeks before surgery. Only 6 lbs. since surgery. Doc said its normal because I am not restricted yet. First fill will be on Nov 25. Could have been sooner but will be at Disney with family right before that so Doc doesn't want me to go to Florida right after a fill in case of problems. I am on mushies now and get hungry a lot, but am trying very hard to be good. Bandster Hell for sure!!!! Donna

Having trouble adjusting to the band. I have only been banded for a few days, but am extremely scared that I have done the wrong thing and that my life is over. Could really use some advice. I am not doing well at all.

I am afraid that life is over now that I have the band. I will never be able to go on another vacation again. I have anxiety issues and seriously need help. Is there life after the band?

You have absolutely nothing to worry about. I have had my first fill, have some restriction but not too much (could use a little more), and the band is controlling my hunger. My life is almost exactly the same, but better! I can eat almost everything, just smaller amounts. And not being hungry all the time is just a miracle. I LOVE the band!

The time right after surgery is hard, but you need to know that it is not going to stay this way. It is up to you how much you want to change. If you want to go extra slow, you can have a small fill and eat what you want and lose weight more slowly.

Take it easy, rest and give yourself time to heal. If you are anything like the rest of us, you did the right thing.

Hi friends,

I just had to report I am up to 22.2 pounds lost, with 3 pounds gone since my first fill last week. SOOO happy!

I thought the fill would do nothing, but it really has helped with the hunger.

Hope you are all doing well!

So glad to find this thread. I was banded Sept. 8 and will get my first fill 10/19. I have lost about 17 pounds and have no trouble with any kind of food or drink. I do feel like everyone else has lost more weight than I have...only losing about 1.5 to 2.5 per week.

Remember this is not a diet, its a lifestyle change and you need to try to make good choices, everything else will take care of itself, good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
