September 2009 Band Date

Recommended Posts

I am so excited - just had my pre-op consultation with my doctor and I'm scheduled for surgery next thursday (September 10th). Had no idea it could happen that quickly.

Good luck to anyone else getting banded this month

Hello to all! Here I am - Banded on 9/1/09. Slept most of the day today. Remembered to take my Vitamin and am starting to feel a little peppier. I think the regular Vitamins are very tough on a regular sized stomach, so they would be REAL tough on our banded bellies. I didn't have any problems with the chewable ones. I also haven't had any trouble with the Vicodin, because I think it breaks down before it gets to the band.

Anyway, a little tender still today. Most of the gas pain is gone. I had a lot of it sitting on my chest and in my shoulders. Walking does help! Looking forward to starting full liquids tomorrow!

Glad to hear so many are doing so well! Take care everyone!

Congratulations Christie! I was banded on 9/1 also.

My gas pain is all in my chest too. Walking helps. Every time I walk, I cough - which hurts the belly but I guess that means progress.

Full liquids is good, way better than clear, but I can't seem to find anything I am interested in. The cream of chicken Soup was good...all the Protein shakes taste way too sweet. What else is there? Yogurt I guess. We are allowed to have cottage cheese too, I could try that. Not much of an appetite.

I dont have much of an appetite either, so I have just had a few fudgesicles and the Protein Drinks. And lots of iced tea. My throat was more sore than the incision I think. I am so happy that all of us that have banded so far have had good outcomes!! Wish I wouldve done it sooner!

Hello All, I'm back and checking in.. Had surgery on the 1st.. I woke up feeling terrible pain in my left shoulder I was convinced someone kicked my a** in surgery.. It was only gas.. I came back from the hospital yesterday still feeling very weak and groggy with the shoulder pain. But, I didn't want to take any pain medication. I was trying to tough it out. I don't like the fuzzy feeling from the meds (big mistake). I had a bad night.. and today I finally gave in and drank the nasty pain med. I feel good.. I have to walk maybe that will help with gas although the gasX strips are great. All in All I'm doing good.. I haven't had too much of an appetite.. I'm still just sipping broth and clear liquids.. Sipping-- I made a big mistake and took a gulp not a chug but a good gulp and felt a big ball/lump in my chest.. eek I can't even imagine eating like I used to..

Amanda and Colorado I'm glad you Gals are doing good.. Oh by the way I bought some Profect Protein Vials at costco YUK they are nasty.. Tell me how are you Gals getting protein and vitamins.. remember protein heals the body.. We Did It!

253 the day of surgery 9/1

248 Yesterday 9/2

246 today 9/3

I did pee like a horse after surgery my potassium even went down and I needed to take some nasty, salty, liquid before leaving the hospital..

Yeah Soco!!!!! You made it to the banded side of life! Look how much you are losing already!

I can't imagine doing it without the pain meds! I too woke up with a huge pain in my chest, and it is still there on and off - the gas.

I don't know what to do about the protein. The Protein Shakes now taste way too sweet for me (I actually used to like them! Slimfast anyway) I tried making some SF pudding and adding Unflavored protein - yuck!

So glad to hear you made it through okay. Let the weight loss begin!

I'm pretty shocked about the weight loss.. I wasn't losing any weight prior to surgery.. even on the all liquid diet.. Yeah the gas is the worse, my incisions don't even hurt.. I was surprised they are so small. Oh.. and your tummy does look good. Very shapely woo hoo!

As for the protein, like I said that vial was gross. I also bought some bottles of Isopure at GNC. They have 40 grams of protein and 0 carbs only drawback it's a 20oz bottle. That seems like alot of liquid... That's in the clear liquid spectrum. I think I read that you can drink shakes. I was drinking Premier Nutrition protein shakes from costco. They're pretty good with 30 grams of protein, 160 calories and 5 carbs. They come premix in little containers and are only 11 oz. I think those are going to be my choice of protein when I start introducing shakes into my diet. As for the sweetness, maybe you could Water them down.

Today, I tried some SF Jello. Unfortunately, I didn't break it up or dissolve it in my mouth enough, so when I swallowed it felt like it got stuck for a bit... weird.. :smile2:

Good Luck Dean just hang in there.. The reason I think I don't have much of an appetite is because I'm totally preoccupied with all the new feeling my stomach is having. That and the painful shoulder gas... That by the way not everyone gets.. I used the hebalife shakes that really made me feel full but, they didn't have much Protein. Another lifesaver for me was the chicken broth but that was on a clear liquid diet. If you're just on a liquid diet you can have much tastier Soups. I'm sure time will fly by... :smile2:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
