Slow Losers - Unite!

Recommended Posts

If there is such a club I shoud be the 1st member. Even you slow losers are losing more than I am. I wad banded 02/02/07 and I have lost a total of 27 pounds and have had 8 fills to date. I have always been a "gym rat" and love to exercise I am definitely eating less, sometimes one meal per day. My doctor says me eating one meal a day is the problem and I should eat more. Frankly sometimes I just forget to eat because I don't feel hungry. I don't want to give up on my band just yet, but I can't help but to feel a little discouraged. Anyone out there with similar results.

Hi Dori,

You Nailed Me Right On The Head. I Too Have Had Multiple Fills Have Not Reached The Right Spot Yet. Have Lost 27 Pounds In A Year. Skip Meals Cause Too Busy Or Forget Which Was Never Ever A Problem But Is Great Now. But Again Not The Way To Do It So I Try To Get 3 Meals In And As Much Protein As Possible. So Yes I Am On The Same Boat. You Are Not Alone. I Do Need To Get To The Gym More And Cut Down On My Kids Trick Or Treat candy. I Had A Fill Last Week And Got Instant Results But Now A Week Later I Still Can Get In A Good Amount Of food So I'm Going Back To Get Another One. Good Luck And I'm Thinking Of You.

Dori, you are not alone. I was banded Dec. 2006 and to date I've lost 30 lbs. I exercise 3-5 times a week, I've had 6 fills in a 10cc VG band. It's hard but I know it will happen, just slower than I had expected. I find I do better when I eat high Protein, very limited carbs. Hang in there, it will happen for us, just not as quickly as we'd like!

righton. I just want to bump the thread up a bit. I am trying not to gain at this point. Ive not been to the gym in a month because of stuff going on with jobs etc...and ive been a bit depressed. im trying to watch what im eating, and its helped. usually this would have been a horrible gaining time but at least with my band and some restriction, i havent (yay) and thats somethign to be hopeful about i suppose!

i gotta get on the right track!

thank you all for your replies it helps to feel that I am not alone. I hope that one day we can get this ball rolling a little faster. I'd hate to think that I endured surgery and have this foreign body inside of me with very little results. But I am keeping the faith and am waiting on my day :)

At least drink a Protein Drink if you are not hungry. Skipping meals will definitely slow your weight loss down. If you like the library, take out the book Body for Life. I am sure you can get a used copy

on Amazon, but I am a fan of the library. His method works.

I am soooo discouraged! Banded March 07 and currently I am down only 12 pounds! Talk about a SLOW loser. Just got another fill today which puts me at 3.75cc in a 4.0cc band. I know I am not eating the right foods but I am eating so much less. 12 pounds in 8 months, I just want to cry.

Are you exercising? Are you eating a lot of carbs? I can't lose at all if I eat many carbs. I also have to exercise like crazy in order to lose. I haven't lost anything now in a couple of months. I am going to talk to my trainer friday and find out what he says about how to break a plateau.

Please don't feel alone, I'm in the same boat. I have lost around 30 lbs, but have gain some this past week. Like you I know I'm not making the greats choices at times, but I'm eating so much less. I really need to kick up the exercise and maybe that would help. I also need to find a exercise partner that would make me more accountable. I really understand and I wish I had some magic word, but I don't. I'm also at 3.7 cc in my 4cc band. I really don't have a lot of restriction. I still looking for the sweet spot. I would love to be able to eat only 1/2 cup as other people talk about. I know we can do this, it is hard no doulbt about it. I know that I didn't get this way overnight so I just have to quite the noisy in my head and try hard to do this. Please don't give up it will happen.

Denise822, can you help clarify what good carbs are....I think this may be some of my issue. I keep seeing talk about good and bad carbs but have yet to find anywhere anyone defines the difference or do you just avoid carbs in general?

Good carbs are whole grains, Beans, fruit. Fruit in a limited amount.

Bad carbs are Pasta, rice, white bread, noodles, potatoes basically anything that is white except for califlower.

Do a google search on the gylcemic (sp?) index. There is also an old thread on the South Beach diet. You could do a thread search on that. That diet is really good. It talks about good fats too,

and which carbs you can have.

Thanks guys for the replies. I am determined to make this work. Dr. Nigro, you are absolutely right, I didn't get this way overnight. I intend to hang in there and I will begin my exercise on Tuesday of next week. Travel won't allow for it this week. At least losing at this rate there shouldn't be any skin issues!!!

Hi, I would like to be a part of the slow losers society.

The scale at the clinic says I weigh 273 I got banded in July of this year and I have went from a size 24W to a size 18. My starting weight was 283 when I went in for surgery. Something isn't adding up because I have had my second fill from 4cc to 7.5cc. I can only eat about a cup of food at a time. I work out religiously at the gym, cardio on the treadmill and eliptical trainer and I have a weight trainer. I drink Water and at the gym the scale says I weigh 240. My scale at home says 240 and I am determined to take my scale to the doctor's office to show them the difference in my scale and theirs. I have NEVER seemed to lose weight when I go in. They make me feel bad and ask me what am I doing and to make a food diary. I SWEAR I am really doing everything. My face is skinnier now, my arms are flabby and I am starting to tone my thighs well. I work out 4-5 times a week. I also walk more places, take the bus and sit and do the arm weight thing while watching tv.

For the people that don't know be but have seen me before, they compliment me and ask me what am I doing and say I look great.

I can even fit some size 16 clothing. Am I just losing inches?

What can I do to burn more? What's wrong?

any input? Because I really don't know what I weigh.

Nya

Nya, if the scale is that far off from the clinic to the gym, I would definitely take my scale in and show them.....Also, I am not sure how you are built, but we started at about the same point and if you are in an 18, some 16's from a 24, I am sure you have lost more than 10lbs....and that is without even looking at you! I am down about 22 since surgery, started at a size 24/26 and am in a 20, 18's are a bit tight.

Muscle does weigh more than fat and if you are at the gym religiously, I am sure you are losing inches and it just doesn't show in the number as quickly. Hang in there! It sounds like you are doing a fantastic job!

Hello, My name is Crystal, and I'm a Slow Loser.

While I haven't read through ALL 87 pages, sorry, I just wanted to say hi and that I can relate to you all in the various stories. I am truly sorry for those of us who are depressed and having a hard time with this! Things WILL get better. It was hard for me, knowing I had spent $15,000 and then going through the "running to the bathroom with deer in the headlights look" all the time. (I read that phrase on a post around here and it's perfect).

I have been banded for 13 months now, and lost 40-something pounds. I however have not been following protocol, I eat once a day, no Protein Drinks at all, no Vitamins, etc. My sister finally pointed out, "you aren't losing because you aren't eating enough". Well, before I gained all my weight I was nearly anorexic then went to binging, thus brings me here. So I am bouncing around now, barely eating, yet barely losing. I need to find a happy medium. I find myself sometimes "happy" with the fact I paid to have surgery and now am an instant bulemic. Please don't rail on me, I understand these are all serious issues. I have issues.

Hmm so I just was supposed to say hi and join this thread and I ended up saying lots of stuff LOL.

Thanks to all the people here on this board who gives others such encouragement and the ability to continue on and not give up. Y'all are amazing!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
