I had to go back on the liquid diet when I was stuck on a plateau for 2months. I was counting calories, exercising, drinking all my Water, everything I was supposed to and couldn't get the scale to budge.

Then I decided that I would just do Protein shakes and lost 5 lbs.

I may have to do that again.

No, you're not confusing me with someone else. Before I got the fill that was too tight, I was stuck on a 2 month plateau. I drank slim fast 4 times a day.I figured that way my calories would be exact. I lost 5 lbs.

I was tracking my calories on

sparkpeople but I figured I must be off somewhere. Plus when I made my mind up to only do liquids, I didn't stick one other thing in my mouth for a week.

It's so easy for me to eat a bite of something here and there, and forget to track it.

Then I got a fill, and instead of getting filled, somehow I totally lost all my fill. So, my doctor thought I had a leak, and he put way too much in there, thinking it was going to leak out. That was on a friday, and I went in on Monday and had some taken out. He discovered I didn't have a leak *thank goodness* and now I am at the perfect restriction.

I can easily just drink shakes now, with this fill because I am never hungry.

Doesn't surprise me - My mind is gone already - hate to think what i am going to be llike in another 10 yrs:eek:

I can't wait for the sweet spot - I ate too much yesterday - not bad foods but too much food - 1500 calories - OMG I now consider that too much food when it use to be 4000 calories. Well that is a big improvement

I was getting pretty disgusted with my band until I got the 4th fill.

It didn't seem like it was much help until then.

Hi everyone,

I am a brand new member, just banded a week ago yesterday. I am just taking all of your chatting in to see what I have to look forward to.. I will probably feel the same way, but right now, I will be happy with any weight loss to improve how I feel and alievate the co-morbidities I was just diagnosed with.

I Am So Frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!banded 11/30/06 Down 30lbs Coming Up On A Year And Could Just Cry. I've Had 5 Fills Due For Another One At The End Of The Month. I Can Eat Anything Had 3 Pieces Of pizza Yesterday Just Cause It Was There. But, If We're Only Supposed To Get A 1/4 Cup Of food In How Do You Get Huge Amt's Of Food In? Just Don't Understand It. I Drink Water, Decreased coffee Down To One Cup In The Am, Walk, Exercise (not Enough I Must Confess), Make Good Choices Except Pizza. A Coworker Bought It For Everyone Because It Was A Crazy Day Plus I Just Can't Say No To Pizza. Help Me Anyone Out There.

You definitely need another fill if you can eat 3 pieces of pizza. I can't even it one piece without it getting stuck and being in terrible pain.

I am sorry that you are so frustrated... 1st you need to talk to your doctor about your situtation .... You need a more agressive fill

But you have to remember 25% of the work is done by the band and 75% is up to you - just cuz you can eat 3 piece of pizza doesn't mean that you should if you can't say no (and you really can) just allow yourself 1 piece. It isn't that one piece that is going to hurt you its all the others and did that pizza really make you feel better - or did it just make you feel guilty?? What does decreasing your coffee have to do with your weight loss unless you are filling it up with cream & real sugar.

Have you tried keeping a food diary?? This really helps me - I keep my calories at around 1000 -1200 a day and I exercise 4-5 times a week (walk on the treadmill min 2 miles a day plus weights every other day and on Sat 4 miles)

You can do this - you just have to make up your mind and remember why you did this in the 1st place - you wanted a healthier life..

Call your doctor - talk to the nurtitionist - Do some soul searching...

Good Luck - Hope things get better...

Heck Yes, I thought I was the slowest loser ever!! Since last Oct.24, I have only lost 44 lbs. But only had around 80 or so to lose. I have dropped from a size 22 to a 14. More inches than pounds. I am happy with that. But I just thought the weight would come off faster. I would have the surgery again in a heartbeat.

I Started out at 224 and now 180. 5'4" Medium frame, but pretty muscular, as the Dr. says. I am a Heavy Equipment Operator, so pretty solid built.

I walk 1 to 2 miles 5 times a week on my treadmill. I try to make the 20 minute mile for the 1st mile.

I am so glad I'm not alone at this so process.

I Would really like to be a member!!!

Thanks For The Nice Not. You Have A Way With Words You Should Be A Professional. I've Read Your Nice Notes To Other People And You Are Very Thoughtful. I Will Get To The Gym I Will Buy More books ( Already Have A Lot) And I Will Get To The Doctor Sooner Rather Then Later. The coffee Thing Is That I Heard The Tannin Acid In Coffee Is Really Bad For The Stomach Lining Hence The Reason To Cut Back On Caffeine And Or Anything With Caffeine.

Thanks Again,

I like that "Nice Not" - I just relate to everyone here - i but it plain words.. I am a fat person I have a fat person mentally I understand !! I know that for myself if i do eat that 1 piece of pizza (and I have) that it will lead to 2 or 3 etc. so i just don't start... And I think after I ate it - was it really that great and i gotta say for me it's wasn't the way i look at it - I would of rather had more food for the least amount of calories (i don't have much restriction yet) - we have a way of working it up in our minds that OMG i miss it so much - I just gotta have it - It's just like a druggie chasing his/her high - that original high is never going to happen again and they keep doing more and more to try and recapture it. It's food for us - we want that chemical reactions from the serotonin that's our drug of choice...

I am just parroting all the info I have read, watched and weight loss prorgrams that i have particiapted. I know about all the mental games that we play with ourselves to justify why we eat - I have played them many of times.. But I know a lie from the truth and it's just accepting that. we keep telling ourselve little lies that this bite won't hurt - it's ok if i skip exercising today - it's not ok - most skinny people do have to work at it to - we think that they don't but they do... Why do you think the gym ifs filed with more skinny people than fat...

As to the coffee - I am not a big coffee drinker as i only have 1 or 2 in the morning - and my doc said that was ok...

Chris - I wish you the best - and truely want to see you succeed and I know you can once you put all the info you have to work.

Dear Indiogirl55,

I Meant Nice Note. But, Sure You Got That. Your Kind Words Mean A Lot To Me. The Mind Set Is Just Crazy With Being Overweight. Everywhere I Go Involves food And It's Not Fair. The Holidays, Parties Special Occasions Etc Etc Etc You Know How It Gos. When Were You Banded? Is It Ok To Get Another Fill Before 4 Weeks? Do You Drink A Lot Of Water? Can You Suggest Another Book? I Just Finished Winning After Losing. It Doesn't Matter If You're Done Losing Or Are In The Process It Was A Really Good Book. I Especially Liked The Title. I Watch The Biggest Loser Every Tuesday And Say I'm Going To Get On The Treadmill While Watching It But Never Do. I've Got No Motivation. I've Tried To Get Together With Friends To Go To The Gym Or Go Walking Or Anything Active But To No Avail. What's A Girl To Do.

See Ya,

Speed Racer:)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
