Hello

I got my lap band in Nov. 2006. I have lost 35 pounds, and I feel so much better. I have stayed the same since March, had not fills, but keep losing inches. I am happy to find someone who has lost 70 pounds of three years, that would be fine for me as well. The Lap Band has kept me from doing harm. I am in limbo with Workers Comp case and SSD. So being home and not working for three years has given me much too much alone time.

I need structure and I know it, so I am doing my best to meet new people, and I have found a volunteer position as an Ombudsman for NYC Foundation for Seniors. I will start the 36 hour class in July. I am going to my surgeon on July 6, she will give me a fill. I am not sure that I have much restriction, but, I am not really very hungry. I eat more to feed my emotions than my body, I know I can do better, and I am hoping this fill will make a difference.

Regards,

Barbara

Hello My Fellow Turtles!!

Haven't written in a while - haven't even really been lurking much - but I wanted to check in and say that I am still the mother of all turtles (although I realize that Vines remains our Queen!) and having a wonderful summer. I'm at an OK place emotionally with my weight loss (or lack thereof) and turtle-dom.

Thanks so much for keeping this thread going. You aremuch better bandsters than I could ever hope to be!

Hugs and Kisses all around.

You may need another fill. I think this may have been part of my problem too. It would be nice to know at what fill level everyone is at right now.

I haven't posted in a long time. I have been so disappointed in myself and am dreading the approaching 1 year anniversary of my surgery and I have only lost about 40 lbs. I have a 2.8 restriction on a 4.0 band. I feel almost no restriction. Of course, I have figured out how to "trick" the band and shoot myself in the foot. The compulsion to eat, especially sweets, is overwhelming. The very first thing I think of when I wake up is "what can I eat?"

I suffer from bipolar disorder and eating is a huge issue for me and a huge symptom of the depressive episodes. nevertheless, I am overwhelmed with self-loathing and disappointment.

I remember how well the band was working at first, how the weight was coming off, how people were always commenting on how good I was looking.

I also remember paying $15,000 cash for the surgery because my insurance wouldn't cover it.

I am so disappointed in myself.

I too ave been a slow loser. I finally got a little pushy with my Dr. and said I really feel like I had been doing things right but I have never had restriction (my surgery was 4/26/05). This week I had and Upper GI and found my band is not where it is suppose to be. So I'll need to have surgery to see what is going on. If you feel like you really are doing what you need to for the most part start checking to make sure your band doesn't have a leak or maybe it has slipped. I have lost 50 some pounds over the last year and know I can't give up. We just have to remember this is our tool. We have to work on all of our mind games we play. If we mess up just forgive yourself and move on. I just found this website and Im glad I have. Everyone hang in there we will make it.

i think this is the place i need to be. I was banded in Feb.06 and have lost 20# but have not lost anything since have kept the jounarl lately since getting so down. I am one that is lucky in that i don't need to lose alot more weight maybe another 20 to 30 lb's but still to work so hard and not lose anything for 2 mo is hard. I lose to one point and even though still staying with food mesuring and weighing of food the next time i weigh i will be up 3 to 4 pounds and then here we go again until i get back to the one spot and then we go around again have been doing this for 2 mo. until then was losing maybe a 1 a wk. Even went so far to go on Funny's diet hoping it would jump start me again i was at the day when you were supposed to have lost 5 to 7 pounds so thought i would see how doing oh great i'm up .5 pounds from when i started. pass the point of knowing what to do . Just venting somedays i feel this was just a great big nother weight loss gimick. The most expensive one but one anyway. Need a fill i guess although don't really ever get hungry but 2 mo without any pounds coming off.

I guess I can join the slow losers also. I was banded 4/27/06. Everything was great for a while.. I lost 43lbs and then ALL OF A SUDDEN I was on solid foods and gained 10lbs. I have been at 33lbs for the last two weeks. I had a fill on 6/20/06 and i have NO restriction from it. Still waiting for my doctor to call me back for another fill. I exercise 5 times a week for an hour. I just can't seem to get the weightloss going. Getting frustrated, and I'm afraid I am going to turn to food for comfort. HELP!!!!!

I would love to join slow losers. My husband and I were banded 3/30/2004 Gene has lost 105+ lbs and I am only down 54 lbs. He is very supportive but I am going out of my mind. I am so disappointed I joke with my husband that I am going to ask the Dr for my money back. I just can seem to lose. I will lose 2lbs one day and a couple days later I may be up 3 lbs. I've been going up and down like that for almost a year. I seem to work so much harder at this than my husband. The Dr tells me it is always easier for guys to lose the weight. I am still so very frustrated. My husband is 10 lbs from being the weight he was when he graduated from high school. I just can't make under the 200lb mark. I know I don't exersice like I should. I can't do any distance walking I have a degenerating ankle joint. If I walk a mile at one time I pay for it for 3 days and the cycle repeats itself. I do try to ride an recumbent bike. But you know I get so bored on that. Talk about a whiner huh.

Any suggestions. Oh yea I try not to compare myself to my husbands weight loss but that is easier said than done.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
