I haven't done raw oysters in specific, but I eat sashimi with no problem and I eat several types of raw fish. I think it might be a bit of a slider food, but it shouldn't hurt you as long as you are on solids.

Enjoy your meal.

Honestly I'd ask the doc. You don't chew them, do you? And if they are too wide to fit through your band, well, yuk. I think your surgeon can tell you if they are save or not.

AND you know depending on where your oysters come from, you really aren't supposed to eat them raw...not through October (if they are from the Gulf of Mexico), or through August if they are from another source...

I have been able to eat raw clams on the halfshell without incident. Now an oyster certainly is larger than a topneck clam, so you may need to chew it up good.

Good luck to you!

I didn't try them BEFORE banding... certainly ain't gonna start now. lol

I DO eat sushi, however. Not quite the same, but I wanted to show that I am brave. Just not brave enough for raw oysters. Blech.

I think probably cavemen ate things raw. I'm glad I don't have to! :tongue2:

(Admittedly a big WEENIE when it comes to raw foods)

(and raw oysters give "slider" a whole new dimension to me. shiver)

Hi. I was banded in October 2008. I have eaten raw oysters and clams, although not often. I chewed them just like any other Protein. After any type of raw bar type food, I cannot eat anything else.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, everyone! I do chew them, but I do understand some people thinking it's gross. This is a very reputable restaurant and they offer oysters from four different sources...none from the Gulf this time of year. I think I will try them, but yes, pb-ing an oyster would be pretty gross!!

Oh, honey, I don't care if they came from happy cows that drank only sparkling spring Water while the sun shone 24/7 -- it's YUCK! lol

Do you mean that you get full quickly?

Mmmm, I love oysters. Steamed, though. Raw is too much slime, lmao. It's like drinking sea Water.

I haven't had them since being banded, though.

I love raw oysters, but I've been afraid to try them post-band because of the difficulty chewing them and the fact that I only eat raw oysters when I'm in restaurants (as opposed to at home). It just seems like they would get stuck, and I haven't wanted to risk that while I'm at a restaurant.

I'd love it if you would let me know how it goes! (You can message me through the site or post on my blog.) I miss oysters!

Catherine

I cried yesterday when I realized I may never be able to eat them again. I have never tried chewing raw oysters more than 1 or 2 chews to enjoy the flavor. Maybe this will be the solution for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
