Different brands of bands

OK this may be a stupid question but here it goes. I keep reading that there are different brands of bands. What are they? What is the difference in brands? I have a Vanguard band and I am hearing that this is a, if not the, largest band. What does that mean exactly? Is this a good thing? Bad thing? Is there a "better" band compared to others?
