Banded yesterday and the gas...

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Can anyone tell me how long I will be gurgling? My kids here me coming two rooms away. If I'm drinking I gurgle. Walking and gurgling. It is quite anoying and really a lot of discomfort. Especially in my shoulder and between my breasts.

Any suggestions? Thoughts?

Thanx

Sheri

I hear ya. I got banded two days ago. There's gas in my stomach/chest. I feel like I need to burp, yet can't, and it feels horrible (not really "painful", though). Last night it was even making me nauseous.

Gas-X strips don't seem to be doing much. This is even from drinking Water. I hope it goes away, because it's really uncomfortable.

You might as well stop the gasx strips they won't work...the gas is not in your digestive track. It is actually in your body cavity. Good news is it will work itself between gas, burping, and hiccups(oddly enough!). Mine has basically gone away at 3 days out but it also depends on how well your doc got the gas out of your body. I had the pain in my lower back and my neck. I still have gas but that is primarily because on my diet I can have blenderized Soups that can cause gas! Come to think of it maybe thats why my gas left so soon...but I kind of doubt it!

I've been banded for a week...the best thing that I can tell you is WALK walk WALK and walk some more! It helps a lot.

I walked a lot and had very little gas pains. I did have some in my back and used a heating pad and thermacare.

Good luck and welcome to bandland!

I gurgled which eventually led to diarreah. When you are eating only liquids, its what happens. When you get to the stage where you can add more substantial liquids like Protein Shakes and creamier Soups, it will get better. I am not on solid foods yet, but I am sure when I do, it will be almost gone.

Tomorrow makes a week for me. The gas has been heinous. The first couple of days was the worst.. but trust me, I still have it somewhat. I wasn't sure what you meant by "gurgling", but I think I know... that awful "I need to belch/hiccup" feeling and its is REALLY uncomfortable.

I took the Gas X Strips religiously for a few days and realized they didn't do a blessed thing. LOL So just walk, walk, and walk. It's all you can do and it really does help, trust me. When the diarrhea from the liquids and the non-food makes you feel horrific, DRINK PROPEL!! You're electrolytes get low and you NEED Propel. (My Dr told me this) Only 3 carbs, clear, liquid, (meets all requirements) and trust me you'll feel TONS better.

(((hugs)))

Hang in there!!

Thanks,

You're welcome!! I'm telling you it was a life-saver! On my "worst" day I drank a couple of them and it made a world of difference!! Honey if your electrolytes get too low, you could end up in the hospital, (I've heard, not sure how true it is, but I can darn sure understand why!!)

Feel better!! (((hugs)))

Well, I"ve found out what the problem was. My band had 3.5 cc in it and my stoma was swollen almost shut. Couldnt drink, eat nothing. I've just come back from the clinic and they removed all the Fluid until my stitches come out. Then they will consider putting some in again. Since Wednesday, so two days, I"ve lost an additional 3.5 pounds. They have me back on clear fluids until tomorrow. I don't really care...I can breathe and the gas is amost at zero. What a change. I"m so glad I called them.

Thanx everyone for your support. My gatorade and I are going to nap. I hope.

Have a wonderful banded day.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
