August BANDits weekly weigh-in

Recommended Posts

Well my dear group of losers, since we now seem to have an awesome name by overwhelming votes lets get down to some business...

I always thought that being accountable for something makes it more likely that you'll stick to it and give a good sold try so...starting AUG 1st let's start a weekly weigh in on Saturdays ( just to keep it all in sync). Please copy and paste the following chart to your reply and update it with your info every saturday. As we progress through the weeks just copy the chart from the last reply on the thread and fill in your numbers for that week. To try to keep this as neat as possible we'll do 8 week threads and set group goals each weigh in period.

I like the idea, but back in April when I began to exercise and lose weight my doc asked me to come in each Monday to weigh in. I have intentionally not bought a scale for home use because I like weighing once a week. My day will be Monday, but will still post up if you like!

I'm with Jason on the Mondays. When I did Weight Watchers (for over 18 months) I went to a Sat morning meeting and weighed in then. Well, after that it was a free for all for the weekend, and get back on track on Monday. I'm not sure how I'll approach this weigh in, but I"ll be accountable to all the other August Bandits and figure something out.

Wouldn't it be great to now worry about saboutaging myself and just eat normally no matter what day I weigh in?

I've already told my family that I want a GOOD scale for the house, I don't currently have one. Maybe my girls will get one for me as their going away gift! They are moving out on Aug 28 and I'll be banded on the 27th...ahhh a happy weekend all the way around!

Hey Jacqui - I can't seem to figure out how to use the chart you've got, but I'm happy to report that I'm down 10.6 pounds from last Monday. Good news is that the pre-op diet works and you get used to it by day five (at least that's been my experience so far!) Right now, I'm still sick. Sore throat and ear infection, so have a call into my PCP to get something since I can no longer take OTC medications as surgery is next Monday! Hoping I get better quickly, cannot cannot cannot delay this surgery!! Hope you all had fantastic weight loss weeks!

Hey KayVee -

I love your 'August BANDits' sparklee in your signature. Can we all add it to ours? It would definitely make us stand out.

I will take a look at the chart around August 1st I suppose, but will be posting my weigh-ins on each Monday for now.

I had my weekly weigh-in today and lost 6lbs this week which puts me at 70lbs down before surgery!!! My surgeon told me to lose 70-100lbs beforehand so I am there a bit early. I will continue to lose though, of course... no looking back for me!!!

Jason

P.S. August Bandits is awesome... I am glad it won out!

My though on posting on saturday was just because it would keep the weeks straight but if you post on mondays I dont think its a big deal...

Jenny, just highlight and copy the section of the chart from the message and paste into your reply ( don't do a quick reply, you must post a reply) and then put in your info.

I like the sparkle banner idea...how to I put that into my signature ??

Alright, I guess I'll hop on this BANDwagon. I don't start my pre-op diet until Monday, so this thread should help keep me accountable!

I'll go ahead and throw mine out there. I started my preop diet today and was 234.4. I'm going to try not to weigh every day, I'll check back in next Sunday (since that will be a week on my preop diet.)

Okay here's how to correctly add your weight to the list.

1) Highlight and copy ONLY from the goal to the list, including anyother banders info already on there

2) POST PEPLY

3) CTRL V ( paste) the info and add your name to the bottom of the list

4) IMPROTANT FOR WEEKS 2+++ repeat the procedure as above but just add your week 2 and onward data next to your name ALREADY listed, don't readd your name to the bottom of the list.

5) At the end of the 8 weeks total YOUR LOST WEIGHT and enter the info into the last column

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
