Hi, from me! Planning to have surgery soon...

Recommended Posts

Hi, all. My name is Cyndi and I am new to this whole thing. I actually joined this board quite a while back, in order to learn about the procedure -- then I became inactive and haven't been back. I was considering whether or not I wanted the band or bypass surgery, but I made my decision and I am SO happy with my choice.

I still have three appointments in various clinics before I can schedule the appointment where they will set my surgical date. I am just waiting for the appointments to come. I still have a psych eval, an appointment with the pulmonary clinc (I have a lung disease) and I have to attend a class.. then I am on my way! Yay! I am nervous, nervous, nervous though.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about digestive problems after surgery. I have panic attacks, which can be triggered by... :scared2: well, there's no nice way to say this... when I have diarrhea, it can cause adrenaline surges, which then result in panic attacks. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they had a lot of problems with this? If so, then how long until it passed? It's the only thing I am really worried about.

Does anyone else on here have panic attacks? If so, you might know where I am coming from, and I would love to talk to you!

Thanks, in advance, for any input you may have. Have a great day.

Cyndi

No panic attacks here. However, while you may have diarrhea post op (anesthesia and liquid in/liquid out) you should discuss that with your surgeon and it can be forstalled.

Otherwise most bandsters have the opposite problem, as you might imagine. Eating a high protein/low Fiber diet usually leads to the OTHER end of the spectrum, not diarrhea. Again a talk with your banding pro will help guide you through this.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely discuss it with them. I've been on here all day, and I am getting more and more excited about having the procedure done and getting on with the rest of my life!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
