Lonely Yuma Bandster

Recommended Posts

Hi to all Arizona Bandsters. I'm in Yuma and I'm looking for other bandsters in my area. :scared2: I would love to meet, and talk to others here, maybe even get together for some exercise or just coffee if you prefer.

I have been banded for 10 months, I'm 16 pounds from my first goal. I will reassess at that goal and decide if I need to lose more or stay at that weight. I'm in my 50s so I'm just not sure how I will look. I haven't been this weight since 1984. :wink2:

I would love to meet my fellow bandsters to mentor if you need, or just chat if you do not. I've had a great success with my band. I'm so glad I had the surgery, my life has changed so much for the better. My surgery date was my new beginning, and it has been a wonderful and successful journey. I'd love to share my story with others, and hear theirs as well.

Wynn

Hi! I am brand new here and have not had my surgery yet. Have you tried the Yuma Bariatric Support Group? I have been going there for several months to get enough info to decide on Lap or Bypass. They're a nice group.

It's held at Yuma Regional Corporate Center, 399 W. 32nd St. on the First Wednesday of every month, 6:30 pm. For more information, call Kathie Brown at 210-9845.

Hi Wynn,

I am in Yuma as well. I was banded a few years ago but didn't have the right fill until a year ago. I am now at a plateau and have been gaining weight. Do you know of any docs in Yuma that will do fills? I saw under your post about a support group that meets so I will also be going to that meeting this week. How has your progress gone?

Nicole

There is a surgeon here in Yuma, and I understand that in order to use her for fills you have to attend the seminar as if you are a new patient getting ready to have the band.

And to the person that is trying to decide on the band versus the bypass, I have a friend that chats here on lapbandtalk sometimes, her daughter had the bypass. her name is Corliss, and that's her sign in name also, I would suggest that you drop her a message sometime and talk to her. Her daughter had an absolute nightmare of a time with the bypass and as a result is on permanent disability. That story scared me out of ever considering the bypass. Also my doctor tells me that regain is much easier to control with the band, and that has always been my problem, I can always lose the weight but I've never ever been able to keep it off. I'm at goal now, and have been able to stay there for a long time. I'm just loving knowing what size I wear all the time. I still go down in weight but very slowly, my band keeps me from ever really having any hunger. I think if you have any real hunger you probably need a bit of a fill, at least that's what my doctor tells me. I use Dr. Bhoyrul in San Diego, it is a bit of a drive but I totally don't mind it at all he's worth the drive. When I called the Yuma surgeons office (I don't remember her name) I wasn't impressed with the receptionist's impolite nature. That's something I don't deal with very well especially since I have to pay cash now for my fills. When I'm laying out money I expect the person on the other side of the counter to be polite at least, you know what I mean? If anyone would like to meet for coffee or take a walk for exercise let me know.

There are quite a few bandsters in Yuma. There are 2 where I work. I had the band but converted to the sleeve (yea, there were 3 of us). There are people from several surgeons who attend the meeting at the corporate center mentioned in one of the above posts. From what I hear, these meetings are helpful and a good place to meet others who have had the band. Good luck.

Did you have your sleeve surgery done in Yuma? I love my band but I have had people ask me if I know of a local surgeon who does the sleeve.

No I didn't have my sleeve in Yuma. I went to Mexicali and had it done. I have worked in hospitals around the world. I, along with all my staff went to Mexicali and checked it out before I went. We were even allowed to wander around the hosptial and literally do the "white glove test". I had no hesitation about having my surgery done there and I am VERY hard to please.

The surgeon who did my sleeve was Dr. Aceves. I have NEVER had better care anywhere. This was after being nearly killed by the surgeons in Phoenix who did my band because they wouldn't listen to me that something was wrong. I had the revision from band to sleeve for $12,500. This price included everything. The surgeons were in to see me after surgery 4-6 times daily. The nurses were fantastic. I would go back in a heartbeat. In fact, if any of my family or friends were to have the surgery, Dr. Aceves would be the only one I would let do it. He has more experience that most of the U.S. surgeons. He serves as preceptors for surgeons in other countries.

Hope this helps!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
