I have been reading a great deal to get ready for the Banding on June 30th. Everyone here has been so helpful. Many of you have mentioned that Gas-x strips are helpful to get rid of the pain from the gas during surgery. I know that walking helps too. But when did you take the Gas-x? Did you bring it to the hospital and take it there. I always thought that the hospital was very strict about you taking only whet they give you. Also, for how long and how often did you have to take them?

Any insight would be very helpful.

I had no problem getting that gas out of my body after the surgery---came out same as always!

Walking helps op gas more than gas x...also good for our lungs and helps prevent clots. It's a miracle drug, walking is! :thumbup:

I had electronic compresses on my calves the whole time I was in the bed in the hospital

they really fear blood clots

Yes blood clots are something that are preventable but can kill you ... and they're common post op in anyone, moreso in heavier people. In fact when I went back to class 4 days after surgery the NP made me promise to get up and walk for about 5 minutes every 30...no sitting in class for the 50 minutes per "lecture". :thumbup:

No you cant take anything you bring with you to the hospital, they will give you what you need the other is for when you get home. As for what to take to the hospital, as little as possible. Now purses, no jewlery or anything of value, leave that all at home, basically you just need you, your insurance card, copay if you have one, and enough clothes to keep you decent coming and going.

I took my own PJ's and changed right after surgery and I brought my own "security" blanket. I was much more comfortable. Take slippers so you can walk off any gas pains. I also took a bottle of lotion and body spray to keep smelling fresh and clean. That and lip balm is really all I used. Everything else sort of just sat there.
