Shrinking Violets Part 4

Mid-day checkin!

Happy Belated Birthday, Kat! I hope it was nice and I agree w/Janie... Celebrate today, too, since most of us missed it!!

I know I sound like a broken record, but...

I am trying to get back in the groove/on the wagon/whatever euphamism works for you re: the band & losing weight. Self-analysis has revealed that I've gained 20 lbs since Spring and I believe it's based in stress eating, + not planning my meals + not exercising. So, what to do? Dump the stress, plan my meals, & exercise!

So piehole report for today:

B'fast: vanilla chai Protein shake

2 coffees + lots of water

Lunch: (a visual)

Pammie: kids go back on MONDAY -- THIS MONDAY! All together now: "It's the most... wonderful time... of the year..."

Enjoy the day!

Good afternoon, Violets..

I've been doing laundry and catching up on everything today. It was a great weekend. It was VERY hot and humid.. in the 90's, but at least the house was air conditioned and so was church on Sunday. I got to buy granddaughter Mara some shirts and Everett some shoes for school. Little Amelia didn't need anything except hugs from Gramma and she got lots of those. We went out for burgers and fries for lunch on Saturday, but of course I pb'd and son Joshua was very impressed. NOT!

It's been great summer weather here lately. The a/c is on in the house and I'm about ready to jump in the pool for some exercising and sun.

It's 79 right now, and the humidity isn't as bad as it's been. The pool should be just right. The Bobster needs to mow the grass again. We got tons of rain last night and this morning. As usual, my plants are all watered without me having to do anything!

Terry.. hope you're feeling better. Be strong.

PamELa... school already??? That's hard to believe, isn't it! I'm so glad I don't have to worry about getting a room ready anymore. Now I just look forward to the social security and pension checks. Life is good.

The Bobster has his name in for an interim pastorate in a town about 40 minutes away. Hope it works out for him. I don't know what is going to happen at our church here. We have a big meeting Monday night and the future of the pastor will be discussed. I'm certainly hoping he will leave for the good of the church.

Michelle, your lunch looks soooooooooo good!! We had some kind of meal for 2 thingy out of a bag. Very tasty, but certainly not as good looking as yours.

Laura... Grady is having sleeping problems again. I keep telling her.. one of these days, it will all be behind her. He is teething and can now sit up for awhile if he's put in the sitting position. He's also up on all fours and scooting backwards. I haven't seen him in a week so I'm anxious to see him tomorrow. Kris and Nathan are going to the health club Monday, Wed. and Fri. now. Hope it works well for her. She wants to lose 40# before they head to Hawaii next January for Nathan's best friend's wedding.

Well, I don't watch BB, but I'm enjoying Real Chance of love, Back in the Saddle.

Well, I better get off here and get in the pool. I have a singing rehearsal tonight.

Everyone have a great day!

Hey guys

I am home

Kat - first Happy Belated Birthday, glad you had a nice day, and Thank You!

I had a nice trip, very nice and so very relaxed. Didn't win a cent but did go to the beach and walked and walked and walked. Got myself a beautiful new Bracelet, I have been searching for the perfect one for 2 years and I GOT IT and I didn't care and got it for me. Of course the kids got junk too, but we all had a great time and DS loved the ocean. dd has been going from the time she was 8 months old, so she missed it the last 2 years. A short trip but very nice.

After hours, days, weeks and even months of serious soul searching I am doing everything for me, I do love him but It is all about me. it has to be. I have a plan for where I want to be in life when I'm 40 and the clock is ticking. I am on my weight mission for me this time, not for him, and I want my children to be good too and i'm happy and that i making all of us happy.

Anyway, glad everyone is well.

I am off, have to get up early and go meet the owner of the construction company at 8 so hav to get upand shower and look presentalbe.

I did eat very well while we were gone but very bloated.

Does anyone else have a problem driving for a long time? every road trip to AC this month, there and back both times I had horrible horrible gas pains to the point I couldn't even stand up, have taken stock in gas x. But once i'm up walking they are gone and didn't come back until my return trip. Horrible!

Ok that is that, just had to ask.

HI EVERYONE, missed you all

Welcome back Judy and Jenn, we missed you guys.

I'm home from work, not really busy tonight but I got a lot of cleaning done.

Nothing to eat till after I give blood tomorrow morning. I'm supposed to go every 3 months but i forgot to go last month. Oh well.

Good news is Hubby won't have surgery. The Doc said he would rather try PT on him first. So that was good news. Now 4 weeks 3 times a week he has to go to the Therapist.

Watching my favorite show right now. "Unwrapped".

Looooong day. Lots of walk ins, and they do not turn them away, so it is chaos. I am more hard nosed. There are those I would understand and see, and others could make an appointment, or go elsewhere! I worked almost an hour late, and even then, I left with 3 people in the waiting room, and one in exam. I did MY part of their exam, and the paperwork involved, so left them to the Dr, and his sidekick, the Office manager!

I am off to the shower. We had lots of garden stuff to put up, and dinner to cook, and I am just now settling back. Going to go shower, so my hair can dry some----will try to check in later, or in the morning.

Miss all of you!

I got your check today Kat, thanks!!! Sweet note also!!

Jen, I had some kind of weird thing I am assuming was from driving in Alabama. Since I stand most of the day I thought it was me, and didn't mention it, but it HURT LIKE HELL!! On the day we met up in Alabama I had these weird pains on my side, it hurt to sit. I am sure people wondered why I was standing so much. I just figured since I sat so much driving I wasn't use to it. Now that you say I wonder?.?.?.?.?........

Okay off to bed, busy day tomorrow.

Morning gals

I'm up getting ready for a meeting, I'm so glad to be back in touch with my work force. I'm going to take my 30 hr and I think I am going to get my tax id now and start getting in touch with my resources and get working for myself like I wanted to.

Jane - HORRIBLE, I couldn't stand up or sit straight in the car, after about 2 hrs the pain started but was very gassy after an hour. Gas ex helped a lot, I now have a box in the car which will never leave the car. Mine was in my stomach but was moving a little.

Going to be another Hot one here today ... you all know I love that. Hope to be done working by noon and in the pool

Please add "Sheila [my last name]" to any & all prayer lists, formal & informal, as we all know the amazing power of prayer. She's my MIL & we got the word last evening that she has lung cancer. Just a small spot, but still. The "C" word.

My always-stoic DH called me (I was driving kids to activities) & I couldn't even understand him on the phone he was crying so hard. So I rushed back home & just held him. When I finally spoke w/my MIL, she felt worst about upsetting him. She said she knew he was really upset because before they hung up, he said "I love you" to her.

She'll have a bone & brain scan asap to see if it's anywhere else. Treatment decisions will be made after that.

Thanks, friends.

Good morning, Violets..

Pretty day out there today. 52 degrees right now and sun is shining so the temp will get up there by mid afternoon. By the time I got out of rehearsal last night at 9:15, it was dark, so didn't get in the pool again like I hoped.

Michelle... I have an email prayer chain of about 40 people and will put your MIL on it.

Busy day for me, so I'm off to get some Breakfast and be on my way. Everyone be good to yourselves.

I will add you MIL to our prayer chain as well. It is a scary, scary diagnosis.

Once a Mom always a Mom, more concerned over upsetting a child than for her own health. It isn't funny, but yet it is, we never change! I worried over how to break the news to both my kids and my parents. My first tears were shed over that thought!

I have to have an Xray of the lungs each time I do my bone scans, as lung cancer is a common secondary cancer to bone cancer (as well as brain which is why they are testing what they are), and I have 2 living bone tumors.

I am glad he has you there to help him process the news.

My Mom is having surgery on her arms next Tuesday. She is having her bat wings removed! I am SOOOO jealous!! But she has lived with hers a lot longer than I have! Someday I too will remove mine, it is a genetic, almost deformity---Mom is not real big, but her upper arms have a fat pad that drops and hangs over her elbow....and mine is on its way that way too. The Dr. told her she could be 100 pounds, and would still have fat there. If she were anorexic, she would die with fat still there! He said there is not enough muscle running through the back of the arm to burn fat well, and when it separates due to the weight of itself, then it is hardly affected by weight loss or exercise at all. I hate hearing that, and yet it made me feel like I was not such a failure at toning!!

Terry, you doing ok?

My leftover chocolate cake is staring at me....so guess I will go to work. I did not sleep well, have some issues hanging over my head, financially to deal with. Wish me luck.

See you after work.

Hey Girls~

Michelle, so sorry to hear about your MIL. I know what your dh is going through. Many prayers and purple power for Sheila and your entire family!

Kat, mmmmm choc. cake! Good luck to moms bat wing surgery!

Jane and Jen, I have gas pains often...and there have been times at night when I have had to get up and lay on the couch. It helps to "jiggle" my tummy...and hope it passes the old fashioned way. Actually right now, I am having some...and will take some Gas X when I get up. Since banding I AM SOOOO GASSY! LOL!

I am going into work this morning after my allergy appointment. The landscaper is here again and the yard is LOOKING GOOD. I have some before pix and will post after ones too.

I will ALSO put some after pix of my face too. I have not worn makeup much, and the one night last week, I forgot to take pix. I am happy about the chin, and the eyes too except they are slightly still pink, the lids!

OK...have a good day!

Terry, pop in and say hi soon.

xoxoxoxo

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
