Lemon, I'm so glad you are soing good! Boy u had a ton done! I'm so sorry! Take care!

Hey everyone!! I am home now... sore but I'm okay. I had the lap band surgery, plus they "re-tacked" down my "old" hernia (from 3 years ago).... fixed the (new) hiatal heria I had... AND THEN removed an enormous hernia in my lower abdomen. It was as big as his fist & wrist combined!! :crying: So needless to say I am plenty sore. And I'm on liquids for a while... But my spirits are good & I keep getting up every hour and doing some walking. I could not have gotten thru this so easily without prayer!!! Thank you all so much for all the kind words, PMs, and prayers!! :tongue2:

Hey y'all! Well I am now 2 days post op. I can now get up and down off the couch by myself. I can "mostly" do for myself in the bathroom. :( Thank goodness for hubby being a good sport. :tongue2:

I am sipping lots of Crystal Light, limiting myself to 2 popsicles a day. sugar free pops have 8 carbs in them!! (no, I don't split the "twin pop". I eat both "sides" and that is 8 whoppin carbs!) I was horrified when I saw that. Anyhoodles, Jello and Crystal Light and boullion is pretty safe. So I am constantly sipping. I walk around, see what my kids are up to, and nap. My daughter brings the clean laundry next to me on the couch and I fold it... keeps me from feeling like a complete sloth. LOL

Yes I am sore... and the liquid Loritab is the most horrific mess I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. LOL It doesn't "kill" all the pain, but it takes the nasty edge off and makes it much more bearable.

I was allowed my first shower last night... which I was able to do with NO assistance. And oh mercy me I felt "like a girl" finally. LOL Nothing beats feeling clean and smelling good!! I really missed going to church today... but that's okay. Maybe next week.

I know some of you are having your BIG DAY tomorrow or this week. I will be praying for you all!! :glare: Don't be nervous. I promise it's not that bad. I'm a giant chicken and I did hunky-dorry fine! Y'all will do AWWESOMME!!

Love and Hugs.... Susan

Hey everybody,

Surgery was 22nd. I feel a lot better today. I think each day will get easier and easier. I am on mushy food now...it is going well. I still get tired real easy. The doc said he had a hard time getting around my liver and he also had a hard time getting the tube down my throat. I am going to try to go back to work tomorrow so wish me luck. I will keep you posted.

bye bye

Highest Weight 328 lbs.

Weight day of surgery 321 lbs.

Surgery Date 07/22/2009

Susan, So glad your dignity is returning to you. Enjoy your SF popcycles. I couldn't find any here so I bough lots and losts and ooooh heavens, LOTS of Jello. I hate Jello. Should be very interesting.

Take care

Hey Ya'll! I'm being banded on July 29th! :skep: Yeah, I am almost there. Susan I hope that you are doing better. My aunt had this done back in March and she said the first three days where the hardest. I figured compared to child birth it can't be to bad. :confused:I wish everyone the best of luck.:) I am about to go fix me some more broth YUM! :)

I was banded on 7/23 and today was the first day that I have felt hunger...:cursing::skep: I don't like it!

Anyone have any ideas on how to get through the next week of full liquids without biting a big chunk out of some poor unsuspecting cow out in a field?? I'm starvin...and nothing I have eaten seems to satisfy me. I looked through the recipe section but most of the things on there I was told not to eat.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks,

Stacy

Hey Stacey. Leave some of that cow for me!!!

I'm not sure about your doc, but mine told me after my surgery, which is wednesday, that when I get to full fluids I could have the shakes again. Not sure how you feel about yours, but I loved mine.

I drink one of those and I have to remind myself I've got to eat.

Just a thought.

Do you have a support person at the clinic/hospital where you were banded? They might have some suggestions too.

Hope you are feeling less hungary.

Sheri

This is my 12th day on it and I've lost 20 pounds so far.

How about you? When did your pre op diet start?

The only thing I really really miss is my coffee. I can't drink it black. I've always used skim milk in it and can't wait until the 2nd or 3rd day post op. Then I can have it....with glee. I'm so ready for it.

I can't wait. Still nervous, but just to get it over with.

Ok, back to work for me.

Keep us all posted on how you are doing.

Hey Sheri,

You can have a chunk of the cow too...I'll let you. ROFLMAO

I need to do a better job with the Protein. I like the shake but have been out of skim milk and haven't felt much like getting out to the store. I have to go to the Dr. tomorrow, so I will pick some up then.

I figured out that if I eat a little bit of oatmeal square Cereal crunched up and soggy in my yogurt I don't get hungry as fast and it's pretty good.

So far this hasn't been too terrible, it's had it's moments. I'm ready to go back to work. I miss it.

Well I guess I'll know after mine is done tomorrow. Scared almost spitless and yet, very excited.

I want to miss work, but seem always to be here. How long have you been off? I took a week of vacation.

I've been off for five days, but the doc took me off for ten because of the hiatal hernia repair. He wanted to make sure I had time to heal properly. I have 100% disability and didn't have to use vacation time.

I have a desk job of sorts but still probably spend 60% of my time on my feet walking. I'm ready for the desk part just not the walking part. I love the people that I work with, it's amazing to be able to say "I love my job" and mean it after sixteen years.

Good luck at work. Won't it be fun to see and hear peoples reactions as we travel this journey??? I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm down twenty one pounds this month! I go to my pcp today for the first time since starting this journey. I'm axious to see his reaction!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
