Miss shopping/buying goodies!

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone else actually misses buying junk food? This is a weird thing that I notice a lot.

I will buy something I know is bad. I get that rush purchasing it, have maybe one bite (OK, sometimes two), but then at least have the common sense to throw it in the trash.

I feel guilty about doing this. Is this weird?

I know I would have eaten the food back 2 years ago, but I still think this is a weird thing to do.

I'm an arbitrary little monkey. ANY time I tell myself I CAN NOT have something (cake, a cookie, pizza, low fat cheese...) I want it BAD. I get obsessed with it

However, with the band, I leave that "diet" mentality behind.

so..me not ever having a burger (for example?) not likely.

BUT me not having one today? Totally do-able.

It's a mindset. Diet mindset (lord knows I've practiced it a LOT in my 54 years) sets me up for failure.

In other words...I don't do what you do because SOMETIMES (rarely) I buy the "junk" and we have it. We'll have hot dogs and chips for supper every once in a while. I understand where you're at because I've been there. Usually in a diet when I get to that point, I'm just a few weeks from failure. I haven't ever gotten to that point with the band because I don't have that "forbidden" thing to give the rush.

Restless monkey, thanks for the insight!

We are the same age! How do you deal with the challenges of being banded over 50?

I often times feel jealous of the yung uns that have all that energy to get out there and exercise for hours and hours.

I am so exhausted working 6 days a week 50+ hours at my age (bad knees, arthritis) to have the energy. I know - EXCUSES -EXCUSES

Baby steps. Getting in that exercise is my next goal.

I've found the same thing. I made a choice when banded that I would not diet- ever again in my life.

And that means there are no OFF LIMIT foods.

So today when I went grocery shopping, after going for the fresh fruits and veggies I grabbed some nachos and salsa. I grabbed a thing of crackers, too.

I think I have a thing of hotpockets...LeanPockets pizza as well.

Maryrose

I too am 54 - and I have more energy than my 18 yr old gs !!! I exercise no problem - and I work too - I just do it and I feel so much better after doing it and I know that it is key in losing the weight and maintaining it.

But again I'm lucky I don't have any physical limitations

As to miss buying junk food - heck no - I have replaced buying junk food for my size 4 pants - that's size is better then all the junk food in the world - the new found energy that I have is better than any junk food - being able to zip line and repel is better than buying junk food - being able to have a better quality of life where I'm not a slug bug - tired all the time - is better than buying junk food.

I'm like restlessmonkey - I am not dieting - they just don't work - I eat healthy 98% of the time and allow for treats 2% of the time.. I finally understand what WW preached - this is about a lifetime lifestyle change - my band helps me in making those changes with the restriction it provides.

I agree with evveryone here. I could never live my life dieting ALL the time. Its not realistic. Its a matter of choosing the right foods and eating a small amoutn of it, even if its a cheeseburger and fries once in a while. I havent had that yet, but I was banded in October and I eat normal foods at dinner and have shakes and yogurt w/almonds at lunch and I try to do my treadmill for 30 mins at least 4x a week. I would go insane if I couldnt eat regular food. I could never do this it thats what it meant. I want to feel normal, eat normal, and be normal. If I dont, I will just be reminded of how I cant be normal, like the skinny girls. I just pretend I'm one of them. I;m down 54 poinds but cant change that stupid scale on my profile.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
