Recommended Posts

I was banded 2/09 but unfilled due to complications. Is anyone else out there unfilled? How are you maintaining/losing weight. Sure could use help:smile:

I was banded on 3/13/09 Had my follow up on 3/19/09 and the doctor said everything was going great. Had my second appt for my first fill but when I met the doctor he said that he was going to hold off on my first fill because I lost 12 pounds since my first visit since the surgery. Hang in there everything will be okay.

I was banded in December and have not yet scheduled my first fill. I feel restriction, but can eat 1 to 1.5 cups of food. So I can eat quite a bit. My theory is that as long as I am losing weight each week I am not going to get a fill. When I reach a time that I do not lose for several weeks in a row, I will then schedule my first fill.

Good luck, and I hope your complications were nothing serious!

Thanks, I am still losing weight, but slowly..I see dr. Wednesday, and see what he says.I know the fill I had was put in during surgery and didn't even know I had Fluid in the band until I started having problems, it was removed and now I can eat just about anything, but am being so careful not to gain any weight. Thanks for the support. I see Dr. on Wed...and will talk about when to fill.

Hi, I have been banded since Oct 13, 2008 and have not had a fill. I have lost just over 80 pounds in that time. Both my surgeon and nutritionist feel that my weight loss has been great and not to worry/adjust just yet. I have restriction and am careful of what I eat. I tend to eat alot of cottage cheese, greek yogurt, egg beaters, spinach salad and fish. I log everything that goes into my mouth so I am very aware of what I am consuming. I also keep my Protein over 80 grams a day and strive for over 100 grams (this is my surgeon's & nutritionist's advice - I add unflavored Protein Powder to my greek yogurt & egg beaters almost every day to boost the protein). Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Like Sassy One I didn't get a fill until well after 6 months of being banded. Losing weight can be done with just the band alone, however I expect you are more concerned with what you will do until you get refilled.

Just hang in there and watch what you eat. You'll be fine.

I was banded 3/17 and my first fill is not until 4/24. I spent a full month unfilled waiting to see if the slippage would go back and I gained 5 lbs in that month. I am now doing lots of exercise to make sure I do not gain. I have no restriction but I am still being very careful about how much food I eat.

I was banded on 2/10/09 with the reaize C band. I have to wait 3 months before I can get a fill and boy do I need one. I have no restriction and can eat anything. I have maintained my weight loss but have not lost anything in the past 4 weeks. It is very hard. According to my surgeon the band that I have does not have as much restriction unfilled as other bands. It also depends on the thickness of the stomach walls.

I struggled with this too. I got the band and expected it to help me feel full; until I got a good bit of restriction it didn't happen. As one poster says "losing weight can be done with just the band" well guess what you can lose without the band too. I didn't expect a quick fix but I did expect a help! Hang in there; once you get restriction it helps immensely. I was about to give up but now that I have 6 cc in my 14 cc band, I'm finally getting help from the band instead of just feeling like it was in there along for the ride!

peach- I did not know that the realize band does not have as much restriction unfilled as other bands and that explains alot. I was originally banded 10/07 with the lapband and I remember feeling at least some restriction but it was recently replaced with a realize band and I feel absolutely no restriction now!

I had surgery 2/23/09 and I have had 2 f/u visits and my doctor on my last visit was suppose to fill me but since Im losing he is not filling me. I like the fact that if I am losing leave it alone. One I stop losing then I will worry about a fill. So hang in there. If you losing keep up with what you are doing.

I was banded in Feb and had one fill of 3ccs, but I don't have any real restriction. I do know that breads/toast is tough to go down and get stuck. I have lost about 16 lbs, all in the beginning while fasting, nothing since the fill. So, I plan on going in for another fill after school is out (I teach). I do a lot of fish- salmon and talapia for lunches with some veggies. Breakfast is usually eggs or yogurt. dinner varies... so my calories are usually around 14/1500 or so.

Good luck to everyone!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
