waiting for the lapband..delays Perth WA

Hi All

Im posting on behalf of my mother..after being on medibank for a year and being eligible in January 09 for the procedure my mother has been delayed her surgery. She has undergone all the tests, etc and all she was waiting for was the to get the lapband done by the surgeon. To cut a long story short, the surgeon has unfortunatly fallen ill and has asked my mother to wait until May and then he maybe able to do it then but no gaurantee..you can imagine how desperate my mother is after waiting over a year to get this done. She wants to get it done within the next month with the costs kept to a minumin with a good surgeon in Western Australia. Has anyone got any similiar stories or advice on the next step of what she shall do?:cursing:

I am not sure that there really is anything your mother can do but wait until May.

She could look for another surgeon but I know with mine (Dr Watson at SJOG Murdoch) there was a waiting time of almost 3 months just to get in and see him for my first appointment.

May isn't too far away, maybe your mum could do a gentle version of optisfast or something from now until then to give her a great kickstart with the weight loss?

Not much help I know..but I guess this can happen to any of us if our surgeon comes down ill

I agree with Lou,

If your mum starts now with watching what she is eating & start lowering her fat intake with foods, she will be shrnking her liver for easier surgery,

going to see another surgeon could take time with different requirements, i would stick with the one you started with

Thanks gus for the advise, i will pass it on her to her..its just a bit dismal for her cos its been delayed 3 times already and the one in May is still no guarantee..
