Hi

I just had my surgery last Thursday. So far doing very well. I do have a question. I have pain in my neck along with pain between my colarbone and shoulder. My daughter had the surgery and also from reading know it usually happens. However, how long does this pain last? I realize everybody is different.

Mine lasted about 3 days, but always eased up when I used a heating pad. Hang in there, it will get better.

It can go away within a few days or linger for weeks, unfortunately. It's "referred" pain from your diaphragm and there isn't too much you can do about it. Personally I had my husband rub my neck and it relieved the cramped muscles. Some people use heating pads but they didn't work for me. Mine just hurt when I exercised and breathed deeply so fortunately it was transitory.

Hang in there....hopefully yours will pass quickly!

My Dr. told me to expect some pain in the shoulder. It's from the gas used during the surgery. It has a tendency to move upward. Best therapy to get rid of it faster is walking. The walking helps it to move out of your system faster. And a heating pad worked to releave the discomfort, but didnt get rid of the gas.

Hi, I'm new to this too. I also had my surgery last thursday. The Post-op Seminar I went to yesterday, stated that this shoulder pain is indeed GAS pains from the surgery and will eventually get better and YES walking will help it get better sooner.

Here's a link to an article...it can last up to 5 weeks and is caused by trauma to the diaphragm...not gas (which abates in a few days)....which is moot anyway because whatever the reason, it hurts!

thanks so much to all!! The pain has indeed eased up a bit. Talk about gas and burping!! YIKES. I go in on the 21st and hopefully will have my first fill. I seemed to be healing very nicely.

I haven't lots a lot of weight but have been more active. Maybe inches more than weight.

I found out that right now I don't have a lot of restriction so am dealing with how to approach that. More than a cup of anything makes me very full but believe I am still taking in substance too fast. Any thoughts?:(

I still very much have that fat picture in my head!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
