Able to resist temptation :)

Recommended Posts

My temptation yesterday, came in the form of warm, moist Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts LOL.

We don't have a Krispy Kreme here in Melbourne, but it was one of my favorite places to visit as a child, growing up in SC.

They built one in Sydney last year and as my husband came back from a business trip yesterday, he was kind enough (or is that sadistic enough LOL), to pick up a dozen of these wonderful little morsels.

I could smell them as he stepped off the plane. My mouth started watering. Then I realized, they don't call them doughnuts for no reason. These tempting little demons were going to get in my pouch, expand and make the big ugly elephants walk on my chest - so I passed. They're still here in the house, but I'm being oh so strong heh. I shared them with a friend last night, several of them actually, in an attempt to sabotage any diet plans she may have and save mine. Hey - can't expect me to be good all of the time *g*

We've got a thing going with a forum I've been a part of for 3 years or so, my girfriend's hubby is regularly in Sydney for business and he picks up boxes for everyone - literally 15 or 16 boxes.

I actually dont like them, I dont get what the fuss is about, give me a Donut King donut any day! I think they're strangely tasteless and not donut-y at all, more like white bread with glaze on it. Which is good since they're opening one here in Narre Warren next year!

Good on you though, my vice is bikkies. Cant have bikkies in the house.

I'm lucky, I worked at an apple orchard for 10 years making doughnuts and apple fritters. It's true what they say - when you make them you definitely don't want to eat them. It's been 8 years since I worked there and I still don't crave them.

Jachut, I'm from Michigan and I have to ask... What's a bikkie?

Mmmm ... I'd kill for a good buttermilk biscuit LOL. Luckily, its one thing my mother never taught me how to cook. She makes the best buttermilk biscuits I've ever had the fortune of eating! hehe.

My great grandmother used to make good homemade apple fritters. They were unbelievable, but no one in the family has been able to reproduce them, even though we helped her cook them all the time.

Almost dreading going home for Christmas, because Christmas Eve Breakfast isn't the same without biscuits and sausage gravy - can still eat the gravy of course, but those darn biscuits would be too doughy :/

In Australia, bikkies (or biscuits) are Cookies, generally. Then again, some people here call crackers bikkies too. They've got a real knack for shortening words lol.

Also can make your own.

Doughnuts, Raised Potato (Spudnuts)

Source: adapted recipe from a large quantity product, recipe makes several dozen soft, light, heavenly doughnuts

Serves: all depends on the size of your doughnut cutter.

1 cup milk (even skim is fine)

1/2 cup white vegetable shortening

1/2 cup light corn syrup

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp. salt

1 large egg fork beaten

1 tbsp. active dry yeast

1/2 cup warm Water

1/2 cup prepared plain mashed potatoes cooled (potatoes may be also made from instant mashed potatoes)

1/2 cup water

4 to 5 cups all purpose flour, extra flour for the board

Oil to fry

Thin Sugar Glaze:

1-1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1/2 cup hot tap water

dash salt

Heat milk with shortening, sugar and salt just to melt shortening. Cool to lukewarm.

Add yeast that has been dissolved in the Water until foamy; then add the egg, potatoes, and the 1/2 cup water. Beat in flour gradually by hand to form a stiff pliable dough that leaves the sides of the bowl. Knead smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise triple in volume in a warm place.

Gently punch down and roll out on a lightly floured surface about 1/2" thick. Cut with standard doughnut cuter. Let doughnuts rise 1 hour.

Fry in deep hot oil, cooking until golden and done. Drain on paper. Dip in prepared glaze while hot and set doughnuts on rack to cool. Have some toweling under the rack to catch some of the dripping glaze.

Some foods I think are only worth eating in HUGE quantities, lol. I find with some things if I cant eat my fill and only have a little taste, I'd rather have nothing.

I confess I had pancakes for Breakfast (its my birthday) and I've stuffed myself, need to poke it all down with a plunger coffee. But I cant eat one pancake!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
